Nothing Lasts Forever
"You're retiring from being Iron Man?! You can do that?!" Tony ran a hand down his face as he listened to Peter freak out. The man was wearing down and just wanted to spend time with this boy and his wife.
"Pete, you have to understand. I'm old, not getting any younger, I've reached my peak. The city has you now. Cap isn't going anywhere anytime soon and he's going to be with the Avengers. You're on the team and you're doing your part. Pete, I'm not leaving you. I'm still going to be right here. You're my kid. Just because I'm done being a superhero doesn't mean I'm done being here with you," Tony was spilling his heart out to the frantic young man.
"You'll never stop being a superhero, Tony." Tony smiled, wrinkles showing.
"How about a whole Avenger movie night? How's that sound?"
"Awesome!"
"Great," Tony went to contact the team for a family get together in the living room. He had to explain the situation to them anyway.
"What's this about Tony?" Sam asked as he crossed his arms, his pajamas ruffling. Tony sighed as he looked at the whole crew, waiting to watch a movie but looking at the man blocking the blank screen. Steve was looking at the man with a worried expression that, Tony would never admit, one that melted his heart.
"I-I'm retiring from Iron Man," Tony gripped his hands together as he looked at the facial expressions of his team.
"Tony . . . I understand," Steve was the first to speak. He nodded to him then stood with a hand out to the man, "It was an honor fighting by your side."
"You're acting like I'm coming off a battlefield," Tony quirked an eyebrow but smiled nonetheless and shook the mans hand.
"YOURE WHAT?!" Tony cringed at the hysteric screech that came from Clint. Tony rolled his eyes before turning to the man himself.
"Cool down, birdbrain. Spideyboy over there is going to join the team full time," Tony rubbed his neck, knowing full well that won't help Clint.
"You're putting Peter on the team full time?! Stark! If I watch him so much as get touched by anything or anyone we fight it's going to be brutal!"
"He's going to be fine. Nat, what do you think?"
"Pete's gonna train with me a lot," Nat smiled over the couch at the youngest that was crossing his arms, pajamas on.
"Deal," Peter shrugged.
"Sam?"
"He messes up anything I get to yell at him. Congrats by the way," Sam chuckled. Peter snorted and rolled his eyes at the man.
"Rhodey?"
"Tony, I'm happy you finally are giving yourself time to rest and all but I'm gonna miss ya out there. Your kid is a good fighter, a good leader. He's going to follow in your footsteps. We'll watch after him out there," Rhodey laid out.
"Thank you," Tony nodded. Tony looked around the room and his eyes landed on Bucky. "Barnes?"
"We've had bumpy roads. We've gotten over them. Gonna miss you out there. Kids got heart, I'll kick some ass for ya too." Tony smiled at the man that had once been his enemy.
"What movie are watching?"
"Endgame," Peter flipped over the couch and plopped next to Rhodey, poking him.
"What's that about," asked Clint, shoveling popcorn into his mouth.
"The end and a new beginning," Peter shrugged.
"Is that what this is?"
"Yeah," Tony nodded, glancing at Peter before settling down next to him. The movie came on and a new beginning started.
