Night Terrors Aren't Just For Kids

Tony shifted in his bed. The nightmare haunted his slumber like it did the back of his mind everyday. The fear of someone he loved being hurt on his watch once more. That loved one was Peter Parker. The other kid, besides Harley, that he had ever met and felt a connection with.

Nightmare:

"Tony, Peter is in trouble!" Steve's voice shouted over the comm built into his suit. Tony crushes the last droids skull under his fist before shooting off to Peters suits signal.

"Mr. Stark!" That was his kids voice. Tony landed on the scene and instantly began destroying every last droid that surrounded him and his kid.

Once finished, the dark headed man retracted his face guard and instantly made his way to Peter. Blood surrounded him. He was pale.

"Kid, hey buddy, you have to listen to me. Stay awake, Alright? Underoos? Peter? Peter?!" Tony shook him and started to hyperventilate. "Peter!"

Back to reality:

"PETER! PETER! Stay awake! Please, don't leave me!"

Tony's window to his room opened and Peter came running in with his suit on. He ripped his mask off and shook Tony into consciousness.

"Mr. Stark! Hey, Mr. Stark, it's me! I'm right here! I'm not going anywhere," Peter assures as he woke up the genius.

Tony gasped and his eyes went wide as he woke. He gripped the kids arm, scared to see someone in his room, knowing Pepper was on a business trip.

"Kid," Tony's groggy voice broke the panic in the room. Peter nodded to the older man.

"Yeah, it's me. You were having a nightmare. FRIDAY contacted Karen and let me know. Pepper isn't here to help you so I thought I'd stop by," Peter smiled. Tony let go of the boys arm and wiped sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand.

"I'm sorry," Tony murmured as he put his hands over his face.

"Mr. Stark, there's no reason to be sorry," Peter knew Tony didn't handle softy stuff well. Peter frowned and tried to let the man know that he was loved and there was no reason to be afraid. Peter didn't want to be weird though.

"What was your dream about?"

Tony sighed as he sat up against his pillows. He removed his hands and patted a spot next to him on the bed. Peter hesitantly went around the bed to sit up against the pillows next to Tony.

"Y-You died on a mission with the Avengers and I," Tony summed up. He was looking at Peter. Peter looked to him and realized why the man was shouting his name and telling him not to leave him.

"I-I'm right here. Besides, none of you would let that happen to me," Peter assures the billionaire.

"It scares me. It does, everyday. Just as much as it scares me when Pepper leaves. I love you both and I can't lose one of you," Tony's voice cracked. He drug a hand down his face before clearing his throat and looking back at the teen. "What are you doing out so late?"

"Burglar," Peter sighed as he sat back. Peter yawned and rubbed his eyes.

"Alright, how about we talk more in the morning," Tony said before patting Peters shoulder and turning to go back to bed. Peter nodded to himself before starting to get up. "Where are you going?" Tony asked, not looking at him.

Peter stopped in his tracks, "Home."

"Stay here, I don't mind," Tony murmured, halfway back to sleep. Peter smiled in the dark room, the only light being New York's moon shining in through the giant window.

"In your bed?"

"Yup. Just don't hog the covers or kick me in the night," Tony smiled.

Peter could here the man smile in the sentence and couldn't help but laugh softly. "Promise I won't," Peter snickered. He crawled under covers, throwing his spider mask to the floor and curling up on his side of the king sized bed. Tony rubbed the boys head of hair before removing his hand and returning it to his side of the bed.

"Goodnight kid," Tony said.

"Goodnight Tony," Peter resounded before soft, almost silent snores replaced the teens voice.

Tony smiled at the sound. He starred out the window before he felt his eyes get heavy with sleep. He thought about the boy and how much he cared for him. He came to him even when he was dog tired after a long night of patrol. Pepper wasn't here, but Peter was. No matter what, he always had someone. He needed that confirmation. He loved it.
