His Hero

"Peter," Tony whispered. Peters brown eyes looked to Tony's. The brown was so dull and dark. Just like the space they were in. "How are you holding up?"

Peter shifted and grunted, "it's not good, Mr. S-Stark." Tony frowned and tried to pry his leg from the boulders crushing force, to no avail.

"FRIDAY, run full body test on Peter," Tony demanded as his reactors glow bounced off of those brown eyes.

That was there only source of light. The only way Peter completely knew that Tony wasn't going anywhere soon. That was Peters only wish. To make sure Tony got out of this. Tony could see Peter and the boys eyes were groggy. He was holding the entire rubble that had fallen on the two. If Peter gave that up, they both died. Peter was under too much pressure.

"Sir, Peters hamstring in the back of his right leg has been torn. It will heal on its own within three days. Peters entire body is straining under the weight of the rubble. With this on going rate, Peters body will collapse in a span of ten minutes," FRIDAY sounded sincere about the situation. Tony didn't program that.

     "Kid, if-."

"No. I can't. They'll find us and get you out of here. They have to. I can't let you get hurt," Peter was clenching his teeth together and on the verge of tears.

"Pete, I'm so sorry. I'm an awful mentor or father figure. I'm so damn awful. I can't," Tony grunted as he tried ripping his leg from beneath the boulder, "get out."

"Mr. Stark, I've always looked up to you. You're my role model, my mentor, my father figure. You've saved this world more times than I can count. You're my world, and I need to save it." Peter managed to choke out. Tony let tears slide down his face.

"We aren't losing today, Kid," Tony assured before tugging on his leg once more, "neither of us."

"O-okay," Peter whimpered. He thought differently. He knew differently. He was going to Tony out of this, even if that meant he didn't.

The two were there for another five minutes, when Peter cried out. Peter was beginning to sob and his entire body strained underneath all of the weight.  Tony struggled more. His repulsors on the bottoms of his suits boot wouldn't help him get out. Tony looked back to Peter.

"Pete, listen to me. If you can shoot a web right at that crack, we can get out. I'll be free and we'll get out of here," Tony encouraged. Peter managed to crack an eye open to look at the target. Peter took a deep breath before removing one hand. He grunted as all of the force went down on his one side. Peter shot a web at the boulder and tugged with all his might. It cracked in half and Tony managed to get out. Peter put both hands back up.

Tony hobbled over and managed to greet Peter and help him hold up the rest of the building that fell on the two. The battle going on still roared around them.

"Pete, go ahead and let go. Go sit down," Tony said to the boy. Peter frowned but didn't argue. Peter put his arms down and all the weight went to Tony and the suit. Peters body still shook. He was exhausted. Peter tried dragging his feet to a nearby wall of some sort so he could lay back, but he collapsed. It was too much strain. Tony called for Peter, "Kid, hey, you gotta talk to me. Stay awake, Alright? Steve will be here soon enough," Tony promised as he began to feel the full extent of the weight.

Peter groaned and tried to push himself back up, to no avail. "T-Tony, I'm sorry. I can't, I can't move," Peter cried as he shook and tried to grab onto something besides himself. He needed some sort of comfort. Tony would have left the suit to do it but the leg was so bad on the suit it wouldn't hold on it's own.

"Hey! Pe-Spiderman, Tony, you down there?" Steve called. Tony's body filled with hope.

"Steve! We need out of here, now!" Tony was beginning to get urgent the faster Peters breathing grew. He was going to have a panic attack if Tony didn't get through to him.

"Are you both okay," Natasha asked. The whole team must be up there.

"Peters not doing good at all. He's going to have a panic attack if I don't get to him," Tony announced as the weight began to put a strain on him, "Get us out of here!"

"Working on it," Rhodey called. Tony watched as Peter stood. His muscles still spasming. He came up beside Tony, Peter was shorter, and did all he could to help hold up the rubble. Tony was telling him to sit down or to stop. Peter didn't listen. His mentor needed help still. Soon enough, there was enough space to get Steve through. Steve dropped down into the closed in area.

"We're getting you out of here," Steve said as he stepped over to Peter. Peter gritted his teeth and shook his head, "Peter-."

"T-Take . . . Tony first. H-His leg," Peter managed out. Steve's attention was drawn to Tony's leg. It was bloody and was barely touching the ground so Tony didn't have to put weight on it.

"Tony, he's right," Steve looked at Tony. The man was glaring at him, his IronMan mask retracted.

"Not a chance. Take my kid or I swear to god Rogers I'll end your superhero career faster than you can blink!" Tony was getting frantic. Steve let out a sigh but moved closer to Tony. Tony shook his head, "don't you fucking dare!" Steve grabbed him and held him pinned against him. Peter grunted when the full weight went back to his body. Steve drug Tony out of the area and laid him out in the fresh, well the city air.

Rhodey held back Tony as he tried to lunge at Steve. "You better get your damn ass back in there to get my ki-!" The small area collapsed. Tony's voice died and so did his breathing. Until he realized what had happened, "no, no, no, Peter!" Tony ripped his body away from the shocked Rhodey and began limping to the rocky area that Steve had came and went through. It was completely shut off. Tony dropped to his knees and began tearing away rocks. He began to chant a string of words that went along the lines of no, Peter, and please. Steve looked to the team and saw that they were all in defeat. Then, Steve's attention went back to Tony went a sob tore through Tony's body. "Peter! Kid! Please, no, I can't lose you! PETER!" Tony sobbed and shot at the rocks with his only working repulser that barely did anything but crumble a super small rock. Tony punched the rubble many times before he was breathing so hard the suit was shaking.

"Tony, we should get him out of there," Clint murmured. Nat wiped away a tear and began to walk over. Tony mustered himself to stand on wobbly legs. Steve came up to him to Tony.

"Tony," Steve started. The darker headed man whipped around to glare at him.

"This - This is your fault! You bastard! I told you-I told." Tony broke down again and fell into Steve. Steve wrapped his arms around him. Tony accepted, he couldn't yell at the man that saved him. Tony let go and wiped his face and went back to the rubble. Thor showed up at that moment. Nat filled him in quietly as she wiped her eyes. Thor walked over and helped Steve and the team move the rubble.

After several minutes, there was a red piece of spider suit. Clint choked himself up and called out to the team. The group helped move away the rubble and managed to get his chest out too. Thor removed the rest. Peters face was pale and his face was somewhat bloody. A black eye. Broken arm. A gash on his cheek. Tony sobbed and picked up the boy and cradled him. Steve began to tear up at the sight.

     "F-FRIDAY, s-scan vitals for . . . Pet-Peter." Tony ended with a sniff.

"Sir, Peter has a punctured lung, his left arm is broken in two places. He also experienced head trauma. Subject is not breathing . . . no heartbeat." FRIDAY finished. Tony held Peter closer and kissed through Peters curls.

"I'm so sorry. We lost. I'm sorry," Tony cried. Steve closed his eyes and turned away. Nat let out a sob herself before turning to Clint and hiding in his chest. Clint hugged her tight. Tony let out a screamed cry as he held Peter closer. "How did it get this far? Underoos, how did it get this far? Kid, p-please! Just one more damn time! One last . . . everything."

"Tony, we need to go," Steve whispered to him. Tony nodded. He stumbled as he stood with Peters arm dangling as he carried him bridal style. Tony stepped through rubble and through the team.

     "Let's go . . . Home."

The team had made it back to the tower. Bruce came out of the lab and immediately gasped. He ripped off his glasses as he reached Tony. The defeated Avengers behind Tony. Tony sobbed harder when Bruce looked him in the eyes. Bruce knew at that moment. He dropped his mug and let it shatter. He found a desk to lean against as he breathed heavily. His eyes grew glassy. Tony walked to a cot and placed the broken body onto it. He stepped back and had to catch himself so he didn't fall again.

"I'm not leaving. Never," Tony assured as he pulled up a stool. "Never again." Tony demanded. Tony sat just like that until Pepper came home. To see their adopted son  . . . lifeless. Her screamed sobs broke the Avengers hearts as they stayed on the couch and comforted each other. All letting tears drop freely. The screamed sobs of a mom that tore through the tower and a father who could only stare at the lifeless body of his adopted son. His hero.

Steve remembered something Tony's father had told him once. In life sons bury they're fathers, but in war fathers bury their sons.

     He was right.
