Afterward

Well, I think we can all agree that it's a miracle I was able to finish this novel. I'd been wanting to do a story similar to Spider-Man vs Darkwing for a while. But I just couldn't think of a good story. Writing Barbara Gordon as a Venom like character was kind of fun. But it would have also made sense to have Jason Todd be like Venom also. But if there's one character who is more violent than Venom, it's Carnage. If you combine the violent aspects of Carnage with Jason Todd's rage issues, you would get one hell of a villain that would be a run for The Punisher's money. The name Bloodlust sounded like an appropriate counterpart to Darkwing. The two things that were going to remain the same were that Peter and Barbara would have a connection thanks to Uncle Ben and Commissioner Gordon alongside that they have romantic feelings for each other, and that Jason was going to kill Joker out of revenge. It was the ending that I had trouble with. I wasn't sure whether to let Jason live or die. (Again.) If Jason did live, Bloodlust would have become something like a Kingpin in Gotham, with the severed head of Joker (now mummified) as a trophy in the same way The Predator has human skulls as trophies in his spaceship. The severed head would be a reminder of what Bloodlust could do if one goes against him. And as the new Kingpin, the Carnage infected Jason Todd would've told Peter, Bruce, and Barbara to leave him be and he would keep the peace in Gotham as the new Kingpin. But my gut told me it would be better for Jason to die again. My dad encouraged me to go with my gut, and that's what I did. And I guess making Jason like Candyman made for a scarier ending. I just didn't want to waste the idea of having Joker's severed head as a trophy. And I'm proud of the designs I drew for Jason's villainous alter egos. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this novel.
