A Little Spider In Gotham

Dusk soon fell upon Gotham. As the moon shone around the city, Bruce and Barbara were by Jason's robbed grave, trying to find out who would steal the body. "Do you think it might be The Joker that did this?" Barbara asked. "Grave robbing isn't what Joker usually does," said Bruce, "although he usually has no respect for the dead. And he's often unpredictable. But why would he have the motive to steal Jason's body?" Barbara looked at the soil and said, "all of this somehow doesn't seem natural..." Suddenly, the Bat Signal lit up for the two to see. "I better suit up and see what Jim's calling about," said Bruce as he and Barbara went inside. "I think I saw traces of Dark Matter," said Barbara as she rolled her wheelchair, "I'm going to use that Dark Matter detector we created to investigate further." As they went to the Batcave so that Bruce could suit up, he said, "good idea Barbara." Once he got his Batsuit on, Batman then got into the Batmobile and drove out of the Batcave. And who lit up the Bat Signal? It was surprisingly Spider-Man! Our arachnid hero had arrived in Gotham City hours prior and had suited up, making the effort to try and find the Caped Crusader.

The young Webhead patiently waited for Batman or Robin to show up. While waiting, Peter pretended to talk to Barbara, saying, "Hey Barbara, what's up? I'm Spider-Man! No... S'up Babs? I love you and I'm your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Hey... I got a crush on you, want to know my secret identity? It's Spider-Man..." He groaned and face-palmed himself, muttering, "real smooth, Parker..." Suddenly someone said, "Commish? Is that you?" Spider-Man turned around and saw who said it. It was Detective Harvey Bullock! "You're not Batman, I think..." said Spider-Man. Detective Bullock frowned and said, "Spider-Man? The hell are you doin' in Gotham, ya wall-crawlin' menace?" Spider-Man scowled and said, "nice to know I'm welcome. Anyone ever tell you that you look like Fred Flintstone?" Bullock glared and said, "ya didn't answer my question, ya little pest... The hell are you doin' here in Gotham?" Spider-Man raised his hands in a defensive yet non-hostile manner and said, "I'm not looking for any trouble Detective... I'm looking for Batman. I need his help."

"How about you go back where ya came from, ya freak! That signal's for emergencies only! You people don't get to just use it for shits and giggles!" Bullock spat back, having no trust for Spider-Man. He didn't trust Batman or his allies either, he merely tolerated them out of respect for Gordon. "You people? This how people in Gotham say hello?" Spider-Man asked. "Mostly to costumed mutant freaks like Frank Castle who think they're above the law," accused Harvey. "That's enough Bullock!" Batman said from behind. Bullock decided to stand down. Batman walked up to the young hero and gruffly said, "Spider-Man." The Wall-Crawler looked up at Batman, seeing he was tall. He towered over Wolverine! He sheepishly said, "H-heya Bats..."

"Did you light up the signal?" Batman sternly asked. "I did," confirmed Spider-Man, "it was the only way I could contact you." Batman crossed his arms and said, "Well, here I am." Spider-Man sighed and said, "I need your help Batman. One of your evil doppelgangers broke into SHIELD and stole something extremely dangerous." Batman's eyes narrowed as he asked, "which of my evil counterparts broke in?" Now Spidey had his attention. "According to Mr. Fantastic, it was The Batman Who Laughs," confirmed Spider-Man. "That is bad," said Batman, "I've had run-ins with my counterpart. What did he steal?" Spider-Man sighed and said, "The Carnage Symbiote." Batman nodded and said, "I see. You'll have to forgive me, I'm not familiar with these Symbiotes."

"I have information regarding The Symbiote," said Spider-Man, "I was one of its hosts." He got out a thumb drive. "I would certainly like to know more Spider-Man," said Batman, "come with me to the Batcave. You can tell me more about the Symbiotes and I can help you with your problem." Spider-Man nodded and said, "I'd appreciate that, Mr. Batman, sir." He chuckled nervously. "Hold it right there!" Bullock protested, "you're under arrest, Spider-Man!" Batman looked at Harvey and asked, "on what charges, Bullock? Let's go, Spider-Man." The two heroes left, and got in the Batmobile. "Is Fred Flintstone's grumpier brother usually like that?" Spider-Man asked as he sat in the passenger's seat. "Yes. As you could tell, he supports Jameson," said Batman as he started driving, "we mostly tolerate each other. What Bullock lacks in manners, he makes up for in his respect for Commissioner Gordon."

"I respect your Commissioner as well," said Spider-Man, "and if you think Jameson is scathing about me, you don't want to know what he thinks about you." Batman looked on and said, "I don't care what Jameson thinks. What matters is protecting the people of Gotham. I never let his words get to me." Spider-Man nodded, respecting that. Batman then called the Bat Computer and said, "Batman to Oracle, I found out who lit the Bat Signal." Oracle said, "who was it?" Batman then said, "it was Spider-Man. It appears he needs our help. Plus he has information that would be valuable. I'm taking him to the Batcave right now." Oracle then said, "alright then. I'll be inside. Over and out." Batman then got out a blindfold and said, "I would require that you put on this blindfold until we arrive at the Batcave." Spider-Man nodded and said, "right, secret locations and such. No need to tell me twice." He then put on the blindfold to cover his eyes, to respect the secrecy of the Batcave. Soon the Batmobile parked into the Batcave, Barbara waiting. "You can take off your blindfold Spider-Man," ordered Batman, "we're here." Spider-Man then took off his blindfold as Batman opened up the Batmobile. The two heroes got out, and Spider-Man looked around the Batcave. "Glad you made it back," said Barbara, "I actually found some Dark Matter in the soil while investigating who robbed Jason's grave." Spider-Man's eyes widened. He looked at Barbara, surprised to find out she was in the Batcave! "Wait, Barbara's in a wheelchair?" He thought, "and she works for Batman?!?!?!?!"
