Redemption
Author's note: TRIGGER WARNING. SOMETHINGS MAY UPSET OR DISTURB YOU IN THIS ONE-SHOT. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. Now with that out of the way, Civil War never happened, which means none of the events happened after it. Bucky is an Avenger. So the first time I finished this one-shot, I forgot Sam. Sam is now added. I hope you enjoyed it. I really enjoyed writing this one.
Peter Maximoff was not having the best day, and it must be a family thing because Wanda Maximoff wasn't having a great day either. Peter's day just had to turn to worst when he found out his sister went beserk. It all started with a call from Wanda's father figure.
The youngest Maximoff was chilling in his room in Avenger's Compound, while the others had gone off on a mission, a mission without him. He was told it was too dangerous by his older sister and father figure. The hot summer day made patrol miserable, and he very much wished to hang out with his chaotic family. When Peter's phone went off, he sluggishly went to answer it.
The caller ID said 'Vent Creep'. Peter quietly chuckled as a smile came on his lips from the idiotic name. The youngest Maximoff soon realized that Clint was calling him during a mission. He immediately answered the phone in his instant panic.
"Peter? Can you hear me?" Clint's voice spoke through the phone.
"Loud and clear," Peter responded trying not to sound panicked.
The archer's breath quicken, which caused Peter to panic even more.
"What's wrong? Is Wanda okay? Where are you?" he yelled into the phone.
The archer sensed the youngest Maximoff's panic and wondered if he was the right person to tell him the news. Clint needed to choose his next words carefully. Tony would kill him if he ever caused the kid harm by any form.
'Why isn't Tony telling him?' Clint thought.
"The mission didn't go as planned," Wanda's father figure finally said.
Peter held his breath as he heard the noise and patiently waited for Clint to continue.
"There was an incident with Wanda," the archer continued, slowly dragging it out.
The youngest Maximoff thought that he might pass out by how long he is holding his breath.
"Wanda is a little bit more," Clint stopped trying to choose his next words wisely, "possessive."
The spiderling forced himself to breath again, or he would for sure pass out.
"What?" the Maximoff screamed into phone.
"I'm sorry Peter. We have to fight her. She's coming for you. You got to run!" was the last thing Peter heard from the older man before static went through the line and cut off the connection.
A dull thud was heard as Peter dropped his new Stark phone to the ground. He was going to lose everyone. The youngest Maximoff was going to lose his only blood relative left, his father figure and his new family. He slid against the wall as tears ran down his cheeks.
A realization struck Peter like a brick. 'If she's coming for me, oh gosh I'm gonna have to fight her,' the youngest Maximoff thought as his breathing picked up. He would have to fight his last blood relative. Peter Maximoff didn't stand a chance. He knew that. If Wanda got to him, it would be a suicide mission to fight back.
Peter Maximoff didn't know whether to stay and fight or flee and run. Either choice would cause chaos. His lip quivered as he realized that he had to stay.
'Imagine all the people she would hurt if she had to look for you' a voice in his head spoke.
For the first time ever, Peter Maximoff was afraid of his older sister.
Meanwhile Clint looked devasted at the demented phone in his hand.
"You're not trying to warn my poor brother I hope. This will only add stress for him," Wanda Maximoff sweetly spoke.
'That's not Wanda, at least not in the right mind,' the archer reminded himself.
Clint wondered why this mission had to go so wrong.
It was fine at first. They were all joking around on their Quinjet on the way to Canada.
Wanda Maximoff was laughing and smiling, and Clint couldn't feel happier for the girl that he had parental instincts for.
The Scarlet Witch herself was more worried about her little brother she left at home. 'Would he remember to eat? Did he get injured on patrol?' were some of her thoughts for her little brother. She loved him dearly, but he was just so selfless that he hardly took care of himself.
Wanda was desperate to give her last living blood relative a call when she heard Steve call to her teammates, "We're here!"
The Scarlet Witch had to focus now on the mission. She needed to finish it quick too. She may have attachment problems to her younger brother, but how could you blame her. He was there with her during the roughest and toughest time of her life.
Their tainted history together only brought them closer as they strive towards redemption. They want to clean their own ledgers like Natasha Romanoff and Bucky Barners. They're a squad that meets to discuss their problems every Thursday. The four of them understand each other which made them very overprotective of their squad members.
Wanda was just glad that her brother was safe from the danger for the most part. The missions he did come on were very stressful for her if she didn't have her eyes on him the entire time. She was so afraid of some taking him right under her nose. The older Maximoff just couldn't let that happen. She was grateful that he stayed at home for this mission.
The Scarlet Witch soaked up every word of the Steve's plan to ensure success. She couldn't risk her new family and herself getting hurt. Peter would take it terribly. Wanda remembered the last time it happened, and it took weeks for Peter to recover from his own guilt.
The mission was suppose to be simple. They had to take out a man who had been working with HYDRA, and SHIELD would pick him up. If any of them knew what was going to happen, they would have left Wanda at home.
The mission started off smooth. The Avengers had the advantage and were quite clearly winning. It all went wrong by a weapon the man brought out.
The gun was fired at Clint, but Wanda was close enough to use her powers to quickly get Clint out of the way.
"Be more careful old man," she said with a smirk gracing her lips.
The archer wore a proud dad smile™. Wanda couldn't help but feel suddenly distracted. A loud ringing noise was making her sensitive ears hurt. Her only thoughts running through her brain was Peter.
Clint Barton could sense the distress from Wanda and ran over to her. They both hid behind some debris as Clint softly spoke, "Hey Wanda, are you okay?"
Wanda was now on the verge of tears as she looked up at Clint. "Is Peter okay?" her voice came out weak.
The archer was suddenly confused because it kind of came out of no where.
"I can give him a call if you want," the archer suggested.
The witch nodded eagerly and wiped the tears from her eyes. A large blast hit the debris where they were hiding. Clint passed out from it, but Wanda absorbed it.
Something changed about her. Her eyes suddenly glowed as she turned to her fellow Avengers. "Where's Peter?" she spoke calmly.
The other Avengers looked at her in fear as Natasha hurried forward to find Clint. The man chuckled darkly as he finally revealed what his weapon did.
"That gun makes you feel like the person you love the most is in danger. It also makes the victim think that everyone is their enemy," the man said with a smirk.
Wanda suddenly lunged at her fellow Avengers in front of her.
Meanwhile, Clint finally woke up.
"Natasha?" the archer drowsily said.
"Clint," she started before she slapped her best friend, "You need to tell us your location, so we can warn you stupid!"
When the archer sat up, he noticed the scene in front of him.
"Why is Wanda attacking everyone?" he exclaimed in horror as he looked at the girl he considered a daughter.
"His weapon made her feel like Peter was in danger and made her think that everyone is the enemy," the Black Widow said with a bitter tone.
Clint immediately pulled out his phone and dialed the youngest Maximoff.
"What are you doing?" Natasha shouted at him.
Clint only shushed her, silently begging for Peter to pick up.
When he heard the lines connect, he immediately said, "Peter? Can you hear me?"
Clint heard Peter's panicked voice, but was glad he got his warning through before Wanda crushed his phone with her powers. The youngest Maximoff better be fleeing, or else he will get an earful from the archer.
The man seemed to be escaping before Tony shouted out, "Hey, where do you think you're going?"
"You better not be leaving us here with her!" Sam shouted as he started to fly after him.
Wanda looked at the man before flying and landing in front of him. Her hands pulsed with red energy that she sent to choke the man. The man suffocated as Wanda's magic blocked him from breathing. Sam quickly flew in the other direction from the witch.
"You will not harm my brother," was the last words that man would ever hear as he ran out of air. He went limp in the air in front of the Avengers.
Natasha gasped as she watched this version of Wanda harshfully slam his body into the ground. His dead body now had many broken bones and looked slightly deformed in the center of the crater that he layed in.
All the Avengers on the field paled as they realized that Wanda showed no mercy to the man. Tony started firing his respulsors at the witch, but she used her magic to tear his armor off piece by piece. She did the same to Rhodey and Sam to leave them defenseless.
Steve threw his shield at Wanda, while Bucky shot at her, but Wanda used her magic to throw the shield back at Steve and crushed Bucky's guns effortlessly. Steve was knocked out, and Bucky pulled Steve over to Rhodey, Sam and Tony to join the defenseless club.
Man, how the rest of the Avengers wished they didn't give Vision the month off. He wanted to explore the world a little bit, so they did. It was now a horrible idea most of the Avengers thought.
Wanda flew over to the defenseless squad and effortlessly knocked out everyone but Bucky. Finally she made him see his worse fear and left him in his mind to struggle against his past.
HYDRA memories and missions flooded Bucky's consciousness as he tried to keep his mind under control. It was too much for him though. He was soon consumed by the wicked memories and was left to relive them.
The Hulk soon roared as he lunged at Wanda. She yawned as she levitated him with her powers into the air.
"Let's see how high the Hulk can stay conscious by a fall," she wickedly giggled at the end of her statement. The Hulk was flown higher and higher until Natasha and Clint couldn't see him anymore before they saw a flash of green zoom towards the ground.
A huge thundering sound was heard as a force pushed the two agents back. Bruce Banner layed unconscious but alive in the crater.
'Why did Thor have to be on Asgard at this very moment?' Clint and Natasha thought.
The male SHIELD agent was still horrified to see his teammates all passed out. It was only him and Natasha left. They both looked at each other before Natasha spoke, "We fight until we are dead."
Clint smirked as he said, "You took the words out of my mouth."
They both lunged at the witch, but they were no match compared to her. Clint and Natasha were out like a lightbulb.
Wanda looked at her masterpiece of the fallen Avengers around her. She levitated herself down and walked over their unconscious bodies as she headed to her location, Avenger's Compound.
Peter had been thinking about what he should do when Wanda arrived when he heard the first scream. She was here. A lump in his throat had formed. He was shaking with fear. He wouldn't be able to win this fight. He was practically a goner. Oh how he wished he ran away now. He couldn't face her.
Screams of the people of New York greeted Wanda as she walked through the streets. Everyone could feel the dangerous aura floating around her. Children were crying. Adults were shaking with fear.
The Scarlet Witch finally was in front of her destination. Roads and buildings that were on or around her path to getting to the compound were damaged and some even demolished. Her red aura only shined brighter.
Wanda Maximoff's power had smashed a nearby van with the license plate saying 'EXCLESIOR'. The older man in the car was luckily okay and helped out by some brave bystanders, a girl with purple hair and a girl with blue hair.
When the Scarlet Witch saw the compound, she gracefully levitated herself over the fence and stood in front of the building. She used her magic to make a hole in the wall.
The spiderling was shaking when he heard the metal of the compound being easily crushed under his sister's power.
"Little brother, please come out. There's nothing to be scared of. I'm here now," the Scarlet Witch's voice called out.
Peter shivered at the sound of her voice. He just wanted his Wanda back.
The youngest Maximoff was suddenly forced out of his hiding spot by a glowing red energy.
"Found you," her voice was high and possessive.
The spiderling wanted to scream but bit his tongue. He would not show his sister that he was scared of her. It would mean game over for him. She could use that fear against him. He mustered up the strongest look he had and stared at his sister.
"It's okay now. I promise. I'll protect you now matter what," Wanda said.
Peter could see all the destruction she caused and looked into her glowing red eyes.
"Wanda, you need to stop. Look around at all the destruction you made. We're working towards redemption. You're just digging a deeper hole for yourself," the youngest Maximoff pleaded.
The Scarlet Witch looked around to see watch she made. Debris was littered everywhere she passed.
"Isn't beautiful?" she asked.
Something inside Peter broke. His sister was gone. His family was gone. Peter had to fight her. He broke out of her aura and stuck to the ceiling.
"I didn't want to fight you," the spiderling said, his voice empty.
The Scarlet Witch looked amused at her younger brother.
"We don't need to fight," she said.
Peter chuckled hollowly.
"I wish we didn't have to," the youngest Maximoff said emotionless.
Wanda realized that Peter wasn't going to back down, and her cold eyes stared him down.
"Do you really think you can defeat me?" she asked and pointed at herself as she said 'me'.
Peter looked up at her and spoke, "I'm going to try."
The Scarlet Witch sighed before saying, "I'm not going to hurt you."
The spiderling looked at her with sad eyes as he was planning his attack. Her hands lit up, and Peter knew it was too late.
His world went dark before hearing a female say, "Redemption never came."
The female Maximoff watched her brother slump to the ground. She walked over to her brother and picked him up bridal style. The witch was determined to protect him from this harsh world. They didn't deserve him.
The Scarlet Witch levitated away with her younger brother in her arms.
The first Avenger to wake up was Tony.
He awoke with a loud groan coming out of his mouth as he stretched. He suddenly took in his location. Debree was practically everywhere you could see. The corpse of the young man was still laying in his crater. Tony threw up at the sight of the now deformed man.
The mechanic then crawled over to wake up Rhodey.
"Rhodey, wake up!" he shook the colonel.
Rhodey peeled open his eyes and sat up. He gasp at the sight he saw. Rhodey and Tony helped wake up their fellow Avengers.
Together, the two best friends woke up Sam, who sprang forward and punched Rhodey by accident.
"Sorry," Sam apologized after he realized what he had done.
Tony and Sam woke up Steve next as Rhodey woke up Bruce. Rhodey checked for injuries on the scientist but found none to Rhodey's relief.
Bucky went next and he was hardest to wake up because he was never unconscious. Steve had to snap Bucky out of his endless muttering and fearful screams from reliving his life at HYDRA. Bucky was definitely shaken up from the event.
After the group traveled over to Natasha and Clint. Tony walked over where he found Natasha buried under some pieces of rubble. She was luckily okay, and Steve helped support her as she limped over to Clint.
Surprisingly to the Avenger's shock, Clint was hardly touched. Not a single hair was out of place. He was just passed out on the floor with some mud here and there.
When they woke up Clint, the archer immediately spoke the one thought he kept having after being knocked unconscious, "Where's Peter and Wanda?"
As if everyone just remembered who Wanda was after, they limped towards the quinjet that was surprisingly still in tact. Bucky could put away his past to save his squad members. The archer speedily flew over the border and into the states until they reached New York.
Everyone gasped at the sight of demolished buildings, recked streets, and bricks scattered across neighborhoods. When they landed at the compound, they panicked to see the hole in the wall.
The archer prayed that the kid ran as far as he could.
"Fri, where is Peter?" Tony said as he noticed the quiet compound.
FRIDAY's Irish voice said, "He was taken by Wanda 4 hours ago."
Clint and Tony had never felt more enraged at that statement.
"He didn't flipping run when I told him too!" Clint shouted angrily as he shot the wall with a arrow.
Tony walked into the kitchen. The rest of the Avengers could hear angry yelling, sobs and sounds of glass hitting the floor. He returned with red eyes and a dry throat.
The Avengers had lost their kids.
