Chapter 3: Dr. Curt Connors
(Three days later)
Y/N's P.O.V
It's been three days since I learnt about Dr. Connors.
After learning he's working at Oscorp I tried to pay a visit to him there, but they wouldn't let me in to see him.
He and I did catch a glimpse of each other, but that's it.
So, today I'm gonna visit him at his home.
School has just finished, so I'm getting ready to leave.
???: Hey, Y/N.
I look back to see Tory, my current crush.
Y/N: Hey, Tory.
Tory: Take a look at this.
She hands me her paper and it's her physics test and she got a B+.
Y/N: You got a B. That's great.
She smiles.
Tory: Thanks to you. You're a great tutor, Y/N. Thank you so much.
Y/N: You're welcome.
Tory: Hey, so do you maybe wanna hang out tonight? Just us.
Y/N: Uh, yeah. Well, I'd love to, but I've got somewhere to be. I'm sorry.
Tory: Oh, don't worry. It's okay. Maybe another time.
I smile.
Y/N: Definitely. Well, I better go. See ya.
Tory: Bye.
I run off and go out the front of the school.
I rush up to the fence and jump over it.
(A/N: Just imagine it's Y/N.)
I then leave the school to go and see Dr. Connors.
(One hour later)
I've just made it to Dr. Connors house.
I ring the doorbell and a moment later the door opens.
I see Dr. Connors in his wheelchair.
Curt: Hello.
Y/N: Hi, Dr. Connors. My name is...
Curt: You were the boy trying to meet with me at Oscorp the other day.
Y/N: Yeah, that's right.
Curt: Look, I'm sure you're a good young man, but this is my home. If you'd like to make an appointment with my assistant...
Y/N: I'm Peter Parker's son.
His eyes widen.
Curt: Y/N?
I nod.
(Ten minutes later)
Dr. Connors and I are now in the kitchen.
He pours me a drink.
Curt: I'm afraid I can't help you much, Y/N. I don't know why they left or where they were going.
He accidentally knocks the glass off the table, but I quickly catch it.
Curt: Good reflexes.
Y/N: Thanks. Here.
I hand him his drink.
Curt: Thank you.
Y/N: I read your book and it was something. You really think it's possible? Cross-Species Genetics?
Curt: Of course. For years your father and I were mocked for our theories. They called us mad scientists. We wanted to change the lives of millions, including my own. Then it was over.
Y/N: But then my dad left, right?
He nods.
Curt: Yes. He was gone, took his research with him. And I... I was so angry. So, I stayed away from you and your new family. And for that I'm truly sorry.
Y/N: Say... say it worked. Say hypothetically you got it to work, how much of the foreign species would take over? What could the side effects be?
He sighs.
Curt: It's hard to say considering no subject survived. The problem was always...
Y/N: The Decay Rate Algorithm?
Curt: Yes.
Y/N: Right.
I go over to the table.
Y/N: Can I?
Curt: Of course.
I sit down and use the pencil and pad to write down the algorithm my dad created.
Dr. Connors comes over and I show it to him.
He looks it before looking at me.
Curt: Facanating. How did you come up with this?
Y/N: I didn't. It was my father. I found this in some of his old stuff he left with my adopted parents.
Curt: I see. Y/N, would you like to come to Oscorp and work on this with me? I'd like you help on finishing what your father and I started.
Y/N: Yeah, definitely.
He smiles.
I'm gonna help Dr. Connors change the world for the better.
I owe it to my dad to help him.
(Two days later)
For the past two days Dr. Connors and I have been working to get the algorithm ready.
I walk into the lab to see Dr. Connors.
Y/N: Dr. Connors.
He turns to face me and smiles.
Curt: Ah, Y/N. Good to see you.
I walk over to him and we shake hands.
Y/N: So, today is the day, huh?
Curt: Yes. Today we run the simulation test. And assuming it works, we can test it.
Y/N: Great.
After that we go into the next room.
Dr. Connors brings up a hologram of a lizard.
Curt: As you can tell, this is a hologram of a lizard. Now, these wonderful creatures are able to grow entire limbs at will and heal incredibly quickly. You can see my envy.
Y/N: I do. If we can isolate the lizard DNA we can use the Decay Rate Algorithm to help the mouse regrow his limb.
Curt: We'll do it.
He and I work at the computers and after a few minutes we have the simulation ready.
Y/N: Okay, it's ready. Cross your fingers, Doc.
I imput the everything that's needed.
The simulation starts running.
Computer: Running Decay Rate Algorithm. Pending. Pending... failed. Subject deceased.
The mouse dies in the simulation a few times.
Dr. Connors turns away in his chair.
Computer: Pending... test complete.
Y/N: Doc, it worked. Look.
He turns back and sees it.
He then smiles.
Curt: It worked. I can't believe it.
He looks at me and puts his hand on my arm.
Curt: Thank you, Y/N.
I nod.
Y/N: It wasn't just me, Doc. We did it together.
(Five minutes later)
Dr. Connors and I are now testing it on the real mouse.
He puts the serum into the injector, while I hold the mouse in my hands.
I kneel down so he can inject the serum into the mouse.
Y/N: Hey, buddy. It'll be okay.
Curt: Okay, careful now. Don't wanna prick you by mistake. Human trials aren't until next week.
He injects the serum into the mouse and I put him back in his cage.
I can't believe the algorithm worked.
I sigh.
Y/N: So, what do we do now?
Curt: We wait. And once we know if it worked, we'll start human trails. I'd like you to be there for that as well, Y/N.
I smile.
Y/N: Really?
Curt: Of course. I wouldn't have been able to crack it if it wasn't for you, son.
I nod.
Y/N: I'll be here, Doc. Don't worry.
He smiles.
Curt: Thank you, Y/N. For all your help.
He and I shake hands.
Y/N: Anytime, Dr. Connors.
Curt: Now, you should get home. You've earned the rest.
I nod.
Y/N: Got it. See ya soon, boss.
I then leave the lab and head home.
