Chapter 48: The Funeral
(One week later)
Y/N's P.O.V
It's been one week since my father was killed by Tombstone.
Right now my family and I are at his funeral along with others who knew him well.
Unfortunately, it's raining today, which isn't great.
My dad's police Captain Quentin Lance steps up to say a few words.
Quentin: Hello. For those who don't know me I am Captain Quentin Lance. I served with Lieutenant Thomas Jones for many years. He was a good man, a good father and a good officer.
He sighs.
Quentin: I remember when I first met Tommy, I asked him when he decided to become a cop. The usually answer I got to that question was "putting away bad guys," or "solving crimes." But Tommy's answer was different. He said he wanted to help the innocent people hurt by this crimes. That was the type of person Tommy was, he helped people.
I smile as that's true.
Quentin: Thomas Jones is gone, but he will never be forgotten.
The words will definitely stay with me.
(Five minutes later)
Everyone is starting to leave now and Captain Lance comes over.
He and I shake hands.
Quentin: I'm so sorry for your loss, Y/N.
I nod.
Y/N: Thank you, Captain Lance. And thank you for saying something today. My father would've appreciated it.
Quentin: It was the least I could do. If you or your family need anything from me, just let me know.
Y/N: Thanks, I appreciate it.
He nods before walking off.
I lower my umbrella and go over to my dad's grave before kneeling down next to it.
Y/N: I'm sorry I couldn't protect you dad. But I promise you I will make sure Tombstone rots in jail for what he did. I promise you.
I stand up as Kate and Nat come over to me.
Kate: Hey, baby.
Y/N: Hi.
I hug both her and Natasha.
Natasha: I'm sorry I wasn't there when he attacked, Y/N. If I had maybe...
Y/N: Don't, Nat. It wasn't your fault. The only person to blame is Tombstone.
Kate: We need to find him.
Natasha: Agreed.
Y/N: Yeah... let's just get through today first. I just want to lay my dad to rest today.
Kate: Of course, babe. Sorry.
I nod.
Y/N: It's fine.
After that we leave the graveyard.
(One hour later)
We're all at home now and just being together.
The front of the house has been boarded up.
I go over and sit with Miles.
Y/N: How you doing, lil bro?
Miles: I'm okay, I think.
Y/N: So, I think it's time we talk about something we've been avoiding.
It turns out Miles saw me without my mask as Spider-Man the day dad died.
We haven't had a chance to talk about it.
Y/N: Look, I'm sorry I didn't tell you that I'm Spider-Man.
Miles: It's okay. Mum told me why you didn't. You were trying to protect me.
Y/N: Yeah, I was.
Miles: Dad knew too, right?
Y/N: He did. He came back to help me.
Miles: That sounds like him.
Mum comes over.
Laurel: You boys okay?
Miles: We're okay, mum.
Y/N: Yeah, we're good.
I get up and go over to the other's.
Y/N: Okay, guys. We need to find a way to get Tombstone.
Kate: Well, we can't do it alone.
Ben: Yeah. We need help, but everyone still thinks thay L. Thompson Lincoln is a good man.
Laurel: Then we expose that son of a bitch for who he really is.
Ben: But how do we do that?
Y/N: I don't know, but we'll figure it out.
I look to Ben.
Y/N: Ben, you and I will go out and try to run down some leads.
Ben: No, I'll go. You stay here. Besides, you need a new suit. You can't swing around in the one you got.
I sigh.
Y/N: Good point.
I look over to Miles and get an idea.
Y/N: Hey, Miles. You wanna come and see the Spider Cave, help me make a new suit?
He perks up.
Miles: Wait, really?
Y/N: Yeah.
Laurel: That's a good idea and Miles has become quite the artist.
He smiles.
Y/N: I have actually drawn some Spider-Man suit designs. I'll go grab my book.
He runs upstairs.
Kate: That's a good idea, Y/N.
Laurel: It is. He needs something to stay focused on.
Y/N: Yeah, he does. I think it'll help me too.
After Miles comes back, he and I go to the Spider Cave.
(Thirty minutes later)
We make it to the Spider Cave and go to the tech room.
He goes over to the fabrication unit.
Miles: Whoa. What is that?
Y/N: That's the fabrication unit. It'll help us create my new suit. So, let's see your ideas.
Miles: Okay.
He hands me his book and I go through it.
Y/N: Wow. These are good, buddy. Oh, I like this one.
Miles: Oh, yeah. I drew that one recently.
Y/N: Looks slick and stream-lined. And I think it should be in black and red. Though I do like red, blue and white for it too.
He smiles.
Miles: Thanks.
Y/N: Okay, let's get to it.
He and I start working on my new suit.
(Forty-five minutes later)
My new suit is now ready to go and I've just put it on.
Miles: You ready?
Y/N: Yep.
Miles: Come on! Let me see.
I smile.
Y/N: Okay.
I walk out in my new suit.
Y/N: So, what do you think?
Miles: So cool. You look awesome.
I take off my mask.
Y/N: Yeah, thanks to you. Great job, pal.
He and I high five.
Miles: So, what now?
Y/N: Now, we work on finding Tombstone.
Miles: For dad?
I nod.
Y/N: Yeah. For dad.
It's time to find Tombstone and put him behind bars.
