Chapter 4: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

Y/N's P.O.V

So, after running away from school dad found me amd basically dragged me home.

I'm not surprised though, I mean he is a cop.

When we get inside I go to the stairs so I can go to my room.

James: We're not done with this conversation, young man.

Y/N: Well, I am.

James: Y/N L/N, Come here right now!

I sigh.

I then go to sit down on the couch.

James: Now, why the hell did you think it was okay to leave school like that?

I stay silent.

James: Breaking that Flash kid's nose is one thing, but leaving school unsupervised is another.

I sigh.

Y/N: I just didn't want to be there after what happened. People looked at me like I was a freak.

Dad sighs.

He then sits down next to me.

James: So, you must feel guilty about doing it?

Y/N: No, I just didn't want to be there.

James: Really?

He starts looking at me like I'm the bad guy.

Y/N: Oh okay, I get it. Flash bullies me and other's for years, and that's okay, but when I finally fight back I'm the bad guy. Okay, cool.

James: Hey, that's not what I meant, kiddo. I now know he's made life hard for you and I'm pissed about it, I am.

Y/N: Then what did you mean?

He sighs.

James: Look son, there are things in life that we go through and those things will mature us. You're at the stage of your life where the decisions you make will turn you into the man you'll be for the rest of your life. I know what you're going through, as I want through the exact same thing at your age.

Y/N: No, not exactly.

James: What I'm trying to say is, just be careful who you change into. Now, Flash Thompson probably got what he deserved. But just because you can beat him up, doesn't mean you should.

Y/N: Yeah, okay. I get what you're saying.

James: Just remember. With great power, comes great responsibility.

Y/N: Okay.

We sit in silence for a moment.

Y/N: So, where'd you get that wisdom from?

He chuckles.

James: Your grandfather. He used to live by that saying.

Y/N: He told you that one?

James: Yeah. Your grandfather was always dropping nuggets of wisdom like that. And I've always done my best to pass that wisdom onto you, that's what a father does.

I nod.

James: Now, you go to your room and start your homework before your mother comes home.

Y/N: Yeah, okay.

I then head upstairs to work on my homework.

(Three hours later)

I'm in my bedroom right now laying on my bed, just thinking

After that I get up and go to sit down at my desk.

I look down at my hand and realise the power that I have.

Just then I remember what dad said to me earlier today.

The same words my grandfather passed onto him.

James: Remember, with great power comes great responsibility.

I look back at my hand.

These new powers are my great power. And it's my responsibility to use these powers for good.

I can use these powers to help the city.

I then look at my wrists.

Y/N: I just need a suit, a codename and a way to get around the city with speed. And I'll need someone to help.

I pick up my phone and call Peter.

Y/N: Hey, Pete.

Peter: Hey, Y/N. What's going on?

Y/N: There's something I need your help with. But first you need to know that you were right.

Peter: Right? Right about what?

Y/N: The things that have been happening to me, what I did today, they were caused by the spider bite.

Peter: I knew! I knew! So, what are you gonna do now?

Y/N: I know what I have to do with my powers and I'm gonna need your help.

Peter: Uh, okay. What do you need?

Y/N: I need your help to work on a type of web fluid.

Peter: Web fluid?

Y/N: Yeah, I'll put it in web shooters. They'll help me get around the city with speed and I'll be able to help the city.

Peter: Oh, I think I get it now.

Y/N: Great. I realise now that I can use this power to help people. Help this city, but I can't do it without you, Pete.

Peter: I'm with you, Y/N. I want to help.

Y/N: Okay. Meet me at my place tomorrow and we'll get to work.

Peter: Got it. I'll see you then.

He hangs up.

After that I open my laptop and work on schematics for these web shooters.

(Two days later)

So for the past two days, Peter and I have been working on these web shooters.

Right now I'm changing into something that'll hide my face.

Peter: Hey, Y/N. You ready?

Y/N: Almost.

I put on the mask.

After that I walk out in the "suit."

Y/N: I'm ready.

He turns to face me.

Peter: Uh, what is that?

Y/N: It's my suit.

Peter: Yeah, a crappy suit.

Y/N: Cut me some slack. I don't exactly have the money to build a Stark-level tech suit.

He tilts his head.

Peter: Good point. Well, the web shooters are ready.

Y/N: Great. Thanks for helping me this, man.

Peter: It's all good.

He hands me the web shooters.

I put them on my wrists.

Y/N: Okay. Now, I just gotta make sure they work in the way I need them to.

Peter: How?

Y/N: I have one idea.

Peter: Is it a good one?

Y/N: No, not really.

(Fifteen minutes later)

I'm on a rooftop in the city.

I look out at the city.

Y/N: Okay. Here we go.

I jump off the roof and fall through the air.

Y/N: Aaaahhhhh!!!

I fire a web line and swing forward. I then see that I'm about to hit a building.

Y/N: Oh, shit!

I shoot another web line to move away from it.

After that I start swinging through the city.

Y/N: Woohooo!!! Yeah!

I swing up and and do a backflip in the air.

Y/N: This is awesome!!!

I swing down towards the streets and run across the ground to come back up.

As I go back up I web zip forward.

A moment later I land on the side of a building.

I pull off my mask.

I smile.

Y/N: Yeah, I can web swing.

I then put my mask on and web swing away.
