Chapter 14: Back To School

(Earth-1624)

(Queens, New York. January, 2016. Y/N's age: 15)

Third person perspective

It's an average ordinary day in New York City.

On a rooftop New York's hero, Spider-Man stands as he normally does in his suit.

He takes off his mask and looks out over the city he protects.

Barry Allen has been the one and only Spider-Man for the past six years.

After his mother died he learnt an important lesson. With great power, comes great responsibility.

Just then he hears police sirens off in the distance.

Barry: Time to go to work.

He puts his mask on.

Allen rushes to the edge of the building and jump off it.

(A/N: Just imagine it's Barry in the suit above.)

He then swings off into the city.

Barry: Alright, let's do this now. My name is Barry Allen. I was bitten by a radioactive spider and for the last six years I've been the one and only Spider-Man.

He runs through the streets and bounces off a cab.

Barry: I saved the city, fell in love, became an Avenger, got engaged. I saved the city again, again and again. I've done other stuff too. I've got my own cereal, I made a Christmas album and I have a popsicle. That isn't looking good though.

Allen swing through the city and runs across the rooftops.

Barry: But after six years, I still love being Spider-Man. So, it doesn't matter how many hits I take, I still manage to come back. There's only one Spider-Man and you're looking at him.

Y/N's P.O.V

Right now I'm drawing some sticks and listening to some music too.

I have time to do this now that I'm not Spider-Man.

I'm supposed to be getting ready for school.

I start singing along.

I come back to reality when I hear my dad call out.

James: Y/N!

I quickly take off my headphones.

Y/N: Yeah?

James: Are you ready for school?

I look down at my clothes sat on my bed.

Y/N: Uh, yeah. I'm ready.

I quickly get up and change before grabbing my backpack.

After that I leave my room to look for my laptop.

Y/N: Mum, have you seen my laptop?

Vanessa: No, baby. I haven't.

James: Buddy, if you want me to drive you, we've gotta go now.

Y/N: It's okay, dad. I'll walk.

James: Okay. If you're sure.

I go into the kitchen and find my laptop.

Y/N: There it is.

Vanessa: Y/N, you have to go.

Y/N: I know, mum. I will in a minute.

After that I leave my house with my mum coming out with me.

She starts kissing me on the cheek.

I groan.

Y/N: Mum, I gotta go.

Vanessa: In a minute.

I walk down the steps of our house.

Vanessa: Ciao, tesoro. Ti amo e ci vediamo più tardi. (Translation: Bye, baby boy. I love you and I'll see you later.)

Y/N: Ciao, mamma. Anch'io ti amo.(Translation: Bye, mum. I love you too.)

I walk down the street.

I hear some people talking about an earthquake last night. Not that I felt it.

While I'm on my way to school, I slap some of my stickers around the neighbourhood.

I jump up and slap on on a street sign, but I fall down into the road.

I look up and see my dad in a undercover cop car.

Y/N: Ah, crap.

He gets me in the car and drives me the rest of the way.

I'm sat in the back seat.

Y/N: Dad, I would've been fine walking.

James: You can walk plenty later on today when you peel those stickers off.

Y/N: No idea what you're talking about. It wasn't me.

As he drives me to school, dad talks to me about random stuff until we stop outside the front of the school.

James: Are we still not gonna talk about this?

Y/N: Talk about what?

James: You know what.

Y/N: Dad, I don't wanna talk about Peter.

James: Y/N, if you don't talk about it'll end up holding you back. It'll put in a place you don't wanna be. Do you wanna end up like your uncle Shane.

Y/N: What's wrong with uncle Shane? He runs a nightclub, that's not the worse thing in the world.

James: I know. I'm not saying that. I...

He and I start talking over each other.

Y/N: I just don't wanna talk about it, okay?!

There's a moment of silence.

A moment later we pull up outside of school.

Y/N: Thanks for the ride, dad.

I get out of the car and dad looks out of the window.

James: I love you, Y/N. You know that, right?

Y/N: Yeah. I know.

I close the door and go up to the entrance.

Just then I hear the siren and turn.

James: You're suppose to say it back.

Y/N: Dad, you serious?

James: I wanna hear it. "I love you, dad."

Y/N: You want me to say it? You're dropping me off at school. Look at this place.

James: "Dad, I love you."

I sigh.

Y/N: Dad... I love you.

James: That's a copy.

Everyone laughs at me as I go into the school.

I'm not gonna hear the end of this.

(Two hours later)

I'm late for my next class as I'm struggling to keep up with the day.

I sneak into the classroom to see the class is watching a video of Dr. Otto Octavius.

I try to get to my seat, but the teacher catches me.

Teacher: Mr. L/N. Movin' in the dark. You're late again.

Y/N: Well, Einstein said time was relative, right? So, maybe I'm not late. Maybe you guys are early.

There's a moment of silence until a pretty brunette girl near me laughs.

???: Sorry. It was just so quiet.

Teacher: Y/N, sit down.

I sit down next to the girl.

She looks at me.

???: I liked your joke.

Y/N: Really? It was awful.

???: Oh, I know. It wasn't funny. That's why I laughed. But it was smart, so I liked it.

Y/N: I don't think I've seen you before...

Teacher: Sssshhhh.

We stop talking.

I look to her before looking back at the screen.

I guess things aren't gonna all bad now.
