Condolences

When he got the phone call, they made the arrangements that were necessary for her funeral. Going back to New York, he didn't want the next time that he had all of his friends and superhero coworkers to be under this kind of circumstance.

The last time they all saw one another was during Peter's farewell party Tony threw for him when he left for Metropolis. Peter was happy that they all came, for one reason or another, they knew May and wanted to be there for Peter. Showing their support, for the man who had lost his last living family member.

The ceremony led the group to F.E.A.S.T., where there was a whole ceremony set up for them. Most of the heroes said their condolences and left, while many of them stuck around for the aftermath.

"Peter." Reed Richards, leader of the Fantastic Four, cornered Peter in the kitchen to say his condolences. "Sorry for your loss."

"Thanks, Reed," Peter said with a smile.

Back when he was first starting as a hero, Peter became a member of the newly formed Fantastic Four. He even might've had a few dates with the now wife of Reed, Susan Storm. And also, the sister of one of his only actual friends, Johnny Storm.

Speaking of which, Susan came in and joined them as she walked over and hugged Peter. "How are you doing?"

"As good as anyone can under the circumstances," Peter said as he accepted the hug.

"How are the girls?" Susan asked as she released him from the hug.

"They're doing fine," Peter assured her. "Luckily they're not showing any signs of powers."

"Worried your kids might wanna take up your mantle?" Reed asked with a laugh.

"No, Mayday is too...danger-happy and April..." Peter sighed at the reminder of the talk they had. "Despises mutants with a passion."

"I'm sorry to hear that." An all too familiar voice echoed through their heads.

Peter smiled as he knew only one man alive (plenty of women, but only one man) had the power to do that. Turning around to face the halls around F.E.A.S.T., Professor Charles Xavier himself came down the halls and turned as he came over towards them. He came in a giant yellow hover chair that Peter had invented for him when he had a steady job in Metropolis.

"You have always been one of our biggest supporters, Mr. Parker."

"Charles," Peter said with a smile.

"It's been a long time, old friend," Charles said as he smiled at Peter.

"See the chair is still working," Peter commented, still feeling the bright yellow was a poor choice on his part. "You know, all you need to do is ask and I'd change the color scheme."

"If it had been a problem, I'd have it changed," Charles assured him. "It's so good to see you."

"You, too." Peter was happy to see most of his friends made it. "How's the school?"

"Nothing's changed," Charles assured him. "The others send their condolences, wished they could have been here."

Hearing the sound of a beer bottle cap being screwed off, they all knew who the guest that came along with the professor was.

"Yeah, but some of us wanted to show some compassion with our condolences." Logan, the Wolverine himself, proclaimed as he walked over and gave Peter a tap on the shoulder. "Sorry about your aunt, Webs."

"Thanks, Logan." Peter was happy to see that Logan cared enough to show up. "She always told me how much she appreciated you."

"Well, her and me both," Logan admitted.

Years ago, a supervillain that they were dealing with at the time swapped Peter and Logan. The two of them went a week, trying to live each other's lives while their friends tried to get the villain to turn them back.

Over the said week, May and Logan bonded. Luckily, she had already discovered he was Spider-Man at the time, so explaining that was only slightly difficult. Logan has never had anyone in his life (as far as he could remember) that cared for him as May did. And when they did manage to get their bodies back to the right people, Logan still kept in touch with May.

He was there with her every day. And when he got the message saying she passed, it hurt him to see another friend die while he lives for eternity.

"Well, I'm gonna go find Lois. I haven't seen her since the baby shower." Susan said, wanting to talk to her friend, who she hadn't seen in years.

Their timetables just always managed to interfere with the others. Lois always had a story to work on, while Susan and Reed were stuck with diplomatic missions in the center of the earth.

"I'll go find Fury, he had something we need to discuss," Reed said and left to do just that.

"I believe we should take ourselves elsewhere as well," Charles said as he looked at Wolverine. "Come along, Logan."

"Be right there," Logan said as the professor left the two of them alone. "Listen, bub, if you need anything, and I mean anything..." he placed a hand on Peter's shoulder. "Don't hesitate to call us. Even if it's a babysitting gig for you and the Misses to go out."

"You know my kids are capable of staying home alone, right?" Peter informed him. "They are just starting high school."

"Perfect time to start shooing webs, knowing your luck." Logan joked as he walked off.

Peter rolled his eyes, knowing his luck that would be piled onto everything in his life that's been going down. But no, his daughters are regular, normal, everyday citizens.

Mayday and April looked around the room from one of the tables in the cafeteria, wondering how their father knew all of these people. Their father barely knew a football team and could barely name a player, but he somehow knew several companies' CEOs personally and a dozen superheroes?

Granted, they feel that they met due to his job at the Dailey Bugle when he would report on such people or things. But he somehow knew them well enough that they showed up at his aunt's funeral? There was more to it than that.

"Dad surely has a lot of friends, doesn't he?" April asked, looking around the room.

"It's actually pretty sweet they all came for May," Mayday replies as she took a bite of a burger she got. "I kinda wonder though how dad knows them, too. I mean, what is a man like our dad doing with a billionaire playboy?"

Unknown to them, a figure approached from behind with sunglasses on. "Yeah, his relationship with Captain America is a strange one."

That got both of their attention as they turned to face inward towards the kitchen, where they saw Tony Stark himself standing there.

"Truth be told, I wouldn't refer to Cap as a playboy. The guy hasn't been with a woman since Woodstock." Tony told the girls as he removed his glasses. "And I mean that almost literally."

"You're...you're.." Mayday couldn't even put into words what she was thinking right now. "You're Tony Stark."

"Am I?" Tony asked jokingly. "Phew, for a second I thought I was someone else." He then got serious for a moment. "But hey, sorry for your loss. Been looking for your dad, know where to find him?"

"You know our father?" April asked in shock.

"Yeah, we've met a few times here and there," Tony answered when he noticed Lois Lane approaching. "Mrs. Lane."

"Tony Stark." Lois greeted him in a friendly yet threatening way. "What brings you to my girls?"

"Nothing mischievous," Tony assured her, knowing what kind of mama bear Lois could be. "Just looking for their father. Fiends with Pete online, so I get the updates on your family, including photos." He then looked to the daughters. "And I say, you two definitely are a mixture of your parents. I see your father's brain and people skills, inside the beauty of your mother."

The girls blushed at the compliment they were receiving from the literal Iron Man right now. Lois had to admit it was nice to see Tony getting align with her daughters in a similar way their father got along with him.

"Peter's in the kitchen. But Reed Richard said he was looking for you." Lois warned him.

Tony groaned, wishing to see Peter. "Okay, I'll have to catch Pete later. Tell him I'm looking for him."

"Will do," Lois assured him as he walked away.

Back in the kitchen, Peter was just getting a drink when his senses picked up a familiar face in the crowd. Looking up to the newcomers that were on their way inside, he was surprised to see that it was none other than flash Thompson and Liz Allen.

His once lifelong bully later turned friend and his ex-girlfriend (kinda) showed up. He has had a lot of ideas on who'd show up today, but that was definitely not on the list of people. He has run into them one time before, during a small-time that he and his family stayed out with May. He heard how they got married and now had two kids of their own.

One is Adrian Thompson, their eldest son. And Eugene Thompson jr., their youngest son. They got to talking and Peter couldn't be more than happy for the two of them. Considering he did get her father arrested for the Vulture incident.

April was picking up her food when she looked at the door and noticed someone familiar. "Hey, remember that guy who was dad's childhood bully? The one whose son we met?"

"Yeah, what about him?" Mayday asked, taking a bite of her food.

"He's here," April said, looking over to Flash and his kids.

Mayday turned around and looked at the family of four. "Huh, didn't see that coming."

Peter walked over to his high school friends as Liz opened up for a hug. "Peter, I'm so sorry. She was the kindest woman in the world."

"It's good to see you, Liz," Peter said as he looked at Flash. "Flash."

"Hey, Pete." Flash greeted him with a sad smile as he shook his hand.

The twins then made their way over to their father and mother. Liz moved to hug Lois while the twins looked over the boys they met once years ago.

"You remember our boys, Adrian and Eugene Jr." Liz reintroduced them to their kids.

"Hey," Adrian greeted the girls.

"Hi," April said as Mayday gave a friendly wave.

"Sorry to hear what happened to your great aunt," Adrian tells the girls. "She was a special person around here." He then looked over at his father. "Even my dad liked her, and he's not one to get along with most people."

Flash rolled his eyes with a smile on his face. "A house full of boys. Always a loudmouth near the corner."

"Well, he is your son." Peter joked, earning a laugh from the two. "Need I remind you who came up with that nickname of yours. And why you got it."

"You gave him the Flash nickname?" Mayday asked her father, shocked she hasn't heard this before.

"Yeah, before high school, I and Thompson were friends," Peter told his daughter. "Then one day..."

"We don't need to get into that," Flash begged him.

"Let's just say that it wasn't because he could run fast." Peter recapped the story.

"Okay, while we discuss this, why don't you go off and play, guys?" Liz asked her kids as they walked off.

"You guys go with them," Peter asked his daughters as they walked off with

"How are you guys holding up?" Liz asked.

"Not really that well." Peter sighed. "But I'm happy that you guys showed up."

"Hey, Peter." Tony finally found him. "Hey, mind if I steal him for a moment?"

"Didn't stop you during Homecoming." Liz shrugged, referring to the slight date that the two had during high school. "Don't mind if I can steal Lois."

"Yeah, sure." Peter and Lois decided and the two went with their separate friends.

"I didn't think that you guys would remember me," Adrian tells the Parker twins.

"Well, you know, it's not every day that we meet the son of the guy who tormented our father," April commented, realizing how she made that sound. "Wow, I made that sound complicated."

"I think this crowd is getting to your head," Mayday commented on her sister. "We gotta get you out of this place."

"Well, you wanna head up to the balcony, hardly anyone goes up there," Adrian tells the two, gesturing to the stairway.

"Sure." April guessed as the two followed Adrian up.

"So, how have you been holding up?" Tony asked Peter. The two of them started to stroll through the halls, trying to catch up. "I mean as everything else."

"Well, just lost my job down at the Planet," Peter informed him of recent events. "Thanks to Carlton Drake."

"Ugh. Not a big fan of that guy." Tony told him. "That guy thinks that the only way we can survive anymore is joining with an alien race."

"Aliens?" Peter asked, remembering the Symbiote.

"He's been a big fan of your parasite," Tony admitted as he picked up a drink. "But luckily Venom was destroyed." He then looked at Peter in worry. "Right?"

"Right!" Peter scoffed at that question. "Besides, if there was still a Symbiote out there, Brock would be the one to look for."

"Nobody's actually seen Eddie Brock since you left," Tony informed Peter, taking a sip of his drink.

"What happened?" Peter wonders, remembering Eddie was ready to turn a new leaf when he left New York.

"Nobody knows for sure." Tony shrugged. "After the Symbiote was destroyed, S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't see him as a priority."

"At least he isn't causing trouble." Peter shrugged and saw that Eddie was telling the truth about wanting to go straight.

Up the stairs and on the balcony, the twins looked out to the city. Feeling that smog-filled air on their faces, the two were happy to be out of the way of everyone.

"Must be like nothing's changed." Adrian got their attention. "From Metropolis to New York."

"Well, the sky is a lot less...damp," Mayday admitted as she looked up and leaned on the railing. "But more or less the same."

"I wouldn't do that," Adrian warned her. "This place is really old. That could snap."

Mayday looked down and saw it was creaking, but still supporting her. "It looks fine."

Back downstairs, Peter and Tony were talking when his phone went off. Taking a moment to answer the phone, he saw it was his AI, JARVIS.

"Apologies, sir. But you wanted to reach out if there's any news of the Goblin."

That got Peter's attention faster than anyone could imagine. "What?"

"Pete." Tony tried to calm him down before Peter started to freak out. "Don't freak out."

"The Goblin is back?" Peter asked him.

"It's not Norman Osborn," Tony assured him. "At least as far as we know."

"We?" Peter asked.

"Everyone has been looking into it. The media sees it as accidents happening in old facilities." Tony answered, trying to assure Peter.

"What facilities?" Peter asks.

Tony tried to think of a lie that he could believe and sighed. "OsCorp."

Back up on the roof, Mayday leaned on the balcony when it started to break.

"Mayday?" April called out just as it gave way and Mayday fell.

"May!" Adrian and April called out.

April ran to grab her sister, but they ended up just pulling her along. The two of them fell downward, landing on the roof of the building. What followed was a bunch of the parts from the balcony, as well as the glass and wood.

Adrian started to freak out and ran downstairs to get help. "Help!"

Peter sensed that something was wrong, getting him to look and face the stairway. He watched as Adrian ran down the stairs and was crying for help.

"The...the girls! They fell off the balcony!" Adrian cried out.

Lois and Peter immediately ran off to the roof, Lois crying out. "Call for medical!"

Peter ran his way to the roof and looked to see the distance that they fell from. Seeing there was nobody around, he sighed and knew his girls were more important than his secret. He leaped up and squinted his knees like he always would as Spider-Man. He held his right hand out to catch himself, just next to his daughters. He ran over, noticing that Lois was watching him.

Moving a few pieces of metal and boards, he sighed when he saw his daughters were okay. They were panting in fear and shock, looking up at their father.

"I warned her," April said, gesturing to Mayday.

Peter was shocked to see that they didn't even have a cut or a scratch on them. Looking up at Lois, Peter noticed the look of shock and fear on her face. He had to admit that even he knows the only way that they could have survived the fall was they had to have powers.
