You Promised (Part Two) | Peter Parker (TH)

okay yeah so I guess there's a part two. yay

....

"But Mr. Stark, she's not dangerous!"

"She killed eighty-two people in three weeks! There is a lot of blood on her hands. The government is demanding that she be taken into custody."

"No! You can't take her away. We can help her. Maybe she can join the Avengers, too."

"Kid, there's just a lot going on right now. Look, I know you're worried for your friend, but there's too much I gotta deal with. I'm sorry, but I can't just let her roam free while things are still under fire."

Things went quiet for a moment. Then the sliding door opened.

You sat outside the room where Peter and Tony were arguing. Your head hung low as you waited.

Waited for things to get better.

Peter came out and sat beside you in a huff.

"Mr. Stark says he's trying to work things out," he said. "But he's not letting you leave until things die down."

"I deserve it." Your voice sounded so small and timid.

"No, you don't. You're just a kid. They can't do this."

"So instead I should be let go for killing eighty-two people? I shouldn't be held responsible?"

Peter didn't say anything to that.

Every horrible thing you did after your mother's death came back to you. Electrifying someone to near death. Overloading the systems in buildings and exploding them. Hunting people down like an assassin. The deaths of all those people—most of them innocent—came back to you.

It haunted you.

"I feel sick."

Peter looked at you, confused. It wasn't until a few seconds later when he realized what you meant.

"Do you need....I can show you where the bathroom is."

"No, it's okay. I think I just need some water."

You didn't get to say anything else before Peter had already left for the kitchen. He came back with a glass of water. And a little pink umbrella attached to it.

You stared at him with a questioning look.

"I just thought it would cheer you up." He handed you the glass.

The umbrella just barely held onto the rim of the cup. Your finger grazed over it, hoping not to knock it into the water. It was...cute.

Peter smiled awkwardly as he watched you. His heart skipped a beat for reasons unknown to him. You held the umbrella in place as you took a sip.

"So," Peter began, "you can control electricity?"

You nodded. "My mom worked at a power plant. I was there to watch her newest experiment. I guess I was standing too close to the battery because the next thing I know, I'm getting electrocuted. And I woke up later with these powers." You held one hand up. Bright blue electricity bounced around your fingertips.

Peter stared in awe. "Is it hard to control it?"

Shrugging, you said, "Not as long as I keep my emotions under control."

"Huh."

You did a small trick with your hand, harnessing the energy to form into a ball. You couldn't help but notice Peter staring. It gave you a weird, light feeling. It felt as if electricity danced around in your stomach.

The blue light from your hand reflected off his eyes. There was just something so breathtaking about how he looked at you. It was almost as if—

ZAP!

"Ow!"

You quickly tucked your hand under your arm.

Peter held his hand, squeezing at the area where you accidentally shocked him.

"Sorry! I....it was an accident," you said. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah. I'll be fine. It's not so bad."

You looked at his hand. There was a little mark from where you shocked him.

Peter saw you tense up. "Hey, it's okay. Really. I'm fine." His unharmed hand moved over to yours.

You stared at his hand over yours. He noticed and quickly pulled it back, embarrassed.

Silence filled the air. Peter twiddled with his thumbs while you took another sip of water.

"So....how long have you been Spider-Man?"

....

Over the next few weeks Tony has been trying to come to an agreement with the government concerning you. They finally came to a compromise after one last meeting. You had to be contained until all damage has been dealt with. Several months of waiting until every building you destroyed was cleaned up and the streets were safe again.

The initial plan was for you to stay in a prison like the other criminals. Thankfully, Tony softened your sentence and they agreed to keep you in the Avengers facility upstate.

You couldn't leave the building.

It was rough.

Instead of going to school, you had online classes set up. Maybe after your "house arrest" you could go back to Midtown and be with Ned and Peter again.

Speaking of Peter, he would visit you almost every day. You had fun with him, seeing that you and him had been friends for a long time already.

He showed you around and even introduced you to the Avengers. All the while you shyly hid behind him, afraid you wouldn't be accepted because of what you did.

But none of them seemed to act harsh towards you. Even if they did, they would have to deal with Peter.

It felt kind of weird at first. Peter never seemed to be so protective of you. It really wasn't until the day after you cried in his arms after you blew up that last building that he started acting this way.

But you didn't protest against it.

He was there for you as much as he could. Some days when he would get caught up in Spider-Man duties, he'd show up the next day apologizing and ready to tell you all about it.

Being kept in the Avengers building was lonely.

But Peter definitely helped.

....

You both sat on a couch watching one of your favorite movies. The popcorn had run out within the first ten minutes.

A blanket was draped over you since you had this habit of falling asleep before the movie ended. This time was no exception.

Another second went by and you dozed off. Your head fell onto Peter's shoulder with a little 'bump.'

He looked down at you and smiled at your relaxed state. Everything was going to be okay.
