Anyways, here's a Ned Leeds imagine since I was feeling like some ned today.
Also I miss Liz so that's gonna show through in this imagine
.....
It was the week before homecoming. All of your friends had already gotten dates except you.
As they chattered away during lunch, all you could think about was how you wanted to go with Ned Leeds to homecoming.
Of course, you were too shy to ask him. A part of you figured that he wouldn't want to, the thought of him saying no sent your heart to drop to your stomach.
Still you wanted to go with him. You've liked him since eighth grade after all.
"My date's smokin' hot. I'm gonna take her to homecoming in my new car," Flash said, proudly.
"You mean your dad's car?" Betty asked, raising an eyebrow. "I thought you weren't aloud to drive it after you wrecked his old one."
The rest of the table giggled while Flash's smirk turned into a scowl.
"Shut up, Betty," he said.
"(Y/N), do you have a date yet?" Liz asked.
Your head snapped up, realizing now that all eyes were on you.
"Oh. No, I don't have one yet," you said, playing around with your macaroni with your fork.
"Well, have you thought of anyone? Maybe we can help you."
"Yeah, I bet we can get you a fancy date," Flash added. "I am an expert after all."
Liz and Betty both rolled their eyes.
You thought about Liz's offer for a second. Sure, you'd love some help on getting Ned to go with you. Your friends were all much more experienced with this kind of stuff. Flash somehow always seems to be able to get a date and Liz has practically every guy in Midtown drooling over her.
"There's this one guy I've been wanting to go with. Ned Leeds?" you said, hoping they knew who you were talking about.
And to your dismay, they did.
"Nerd Leeds? You want to go with that guy?" Flash asked in disbelief. "Parker's even nerdier friend?"
You frowned. "What's wrong with him?"
"Nothing's wrong with him except the fact that he's a huge nerd."
"We're all nerds here, Flash," you retorted.
"Yeah, whatever. He's an even huger nerd. You really want to go with him and have the whole school question our legitness?"
Everyone at the table except Liz hummed in agreement.
Your shoulders sank as they continued to speak negatively towards Ned and how you wanted to go to homecoming with him. You didn't expect them to drag on him so harshly, acting like their only care is how it would be a bad look for the group if you went with him.
There were a few laughs throughout the table. No one seemed to care how hurt you were.
Tears starting to form in your eyes, you took your lunch tray and walked away from their table.
"Yo, (Y/N), where you going?" Flash shouted. You didn't even look back.
You set yourself on a table at the opposite side of the cafeteria, trying your best not to burst into tears in public.
As you picked at your food, you saw Liz start walking to you from the corner of your eye.
She sat down and looked at you with a solemn face. You wiped your eyes and sniffled. "Come to make fun of me some more?"
"No, I would never. You should be allowed to go with whoever you want," Liz said. "Those guys are just being mean."
You sighed. "They just don't see him the way I do."
You thought about every little thing about Ned that you liked. His beautiful smile, his laugh, how smart he was, his love for Star Wars....they could never see how amazing he was.
Meanwhile on a different side of the cafeteria, Ned and Peter were sitting at their usual table having their own discussion about homecoming.
"I really want to ask (Y/N) to the dance but what if she says no?" Ned asked.
Peter looked up from his lunch and furrowed his eyebrows. "The girl in your English class? The one you sit next to all the time?"
"Yeah, her."
"Dude, I think you should just ask her. I don't think she'll say no based on how friendly you guys are in class."
"But she hangs out with all the popular kids. What if I'm not her type?"
Peter shrugged. "Maybe...maybe you are. You should just go for it."
Ned sighed and contemplated, looked down at his food for a moment.
Maybe you would say yes. You were already sorta friends. Plus, you seemed to enjoy his company a lot.
"How should I ask her? Should I make a sign with a Star Wars pun? Or is that too cheesy? Maybe I'll give her balloons. Or flowers. I don't really know what girls like," Ned said.
"What if you made her a sign that says 'homecoming?' with Legos?" Peter suggested.
Ned hummed in response. "That's a good idea. I can do that."
.....
Ned spent all night trying to make your sign, figuring out how he wanted it to look and which Lego blocks go where. He even facetimed Peter, asking for his opinion on how it looks.
When he was satisfied with how it looked, he wrapped it up and set it next to his backpack.
The next day he put it in his locker until he could have the chance to ask you. To be honest, he was nervous. He never asked someone like you to a dance before.
When class ended, you were about to head over to your next one early until Ned stopped you.
"Hey, (Y/N), can I show you something?" he asked.
"Oh, sure. What is it?" You couldn't help but notice how your heart started to beat faster as soon as he talked to you.
"It's a Lego thing I made. I think you'd like it." He seemed a lot more fidgety than normal, causing you to furrow your eyebrows in suspicion. "It's in my locker."
You followed Ned to his locker. As he twisted the lock, you absentmindedly twirled a strand of hair out of nervousness. He's never talked to you outside of class before besides a sweet wave and greeting whenever you pass him in the hallway.
"Is it a Star Wars thing?" you asked.
"Uh, not exactly."
After the sound of a click, he opened his locker and pulled out a rectangle-shaped thing wrapped up in brown packing paper. He kneeled down to unwrap it, feeling your eyes glued to him.
On the inside Ned felt like he was gonna collapse from how anxious he was. His heart felt like it was gonna jump out of his chest just by unwrapping the sign.
You stared at it in confusion. It was flat and looked nothing like the Lego builds he usually makes. As he unwrapped it, you could begin to see peeks of a black border and solid blocks of red, yellow, and blue.
Then white bricks came into view that resembled letters.
He finally stood up and held the Lego sign in his hands. You looked up at him for a second, then down at the sign.
'homecoming?'
You gasped. He was asking you to homecoming.
You lips tugged upwards into a smile as you looked at him and nodded. His face full of worry quickly turned into one of joy.
"Really? You'll go with me?" he asked.
"Yes, I will," you said giddily.
"Oh, thank God. I don't what I'd do if you said no."
.....
You told Liz as soon as you saw her since she was the only friend you could tell. She squealed excitedly and offered to take you shopping for a dress.
It was the most excited you'd ever been. Ned had asked you to homecoming and you couldn't be happier.
It was now homecoming night and you had just finished your hair with the help of your mom. Ned picked you up not long after and his mother drove you both to the dance.
The drive was certainly awkward but that didn't bother you too much. Your date was Ned Leeds and that was all you wanted.
When you arrived at the dance, you felt a tingle of nervousness. The music was loud and blasting songs from the 80s while groups of teenagers danced and laughed. There were streamers and balloons everywhere. Liz did a good job decorating. She even managed to get a disco ball.
You were then introduced to Ned's friends from the academic decathlon. They were all really welcoming to you, even Michelle, who you knew wasn't a big people person.
"Hey, do you guys know where Peter is?" Ned asked.
Cindy shrugged. "I haven't seen him yet."
As if on queue, Peter then walked inside with a ghosted look on his face.
Ned turned to him and waved while Michelle stuck her middle finger at him. There was something off about him.
You and Ned watched as he made his way to Liz, then ran off without a goodbye.
"I uh, I gotta go," Ned said.
"What? But we just got here," you said, urging him to stay.
Ned glanced from where Peter ran out then to you. "I'll be right back, I promise."
And with that, he left.
Your shoulders slumped as you watched him leave. All of a sudden you were alone amongst the sea of teenagers. They were having fun and you weren't.
"Guess your date wasn't that great after all."
Sighing, you turned around to see Flash and the rest of the people you used to call 'friends.'
"What do you want?" you asked.
"Nerd Leeds left you. Just like Puny Parker left Liz. Face it, (Y/N), nerds are just straight up jerks."
"And you're not?" you asked, scowling. "All of you? You guys just laughed at me when I said I wanted to go to homecoming with Ned. You called him names and bad-mouthed him the whole time. If you were really my friends, you'd be supportive of my choice. So what if he brings a 'bad look' to your little posse? At least he has more kindness in his heart than all of you combined."
The rest of your so-called 'friends' gasped. Their faces turned sour from your words. And you meant every single one of them.
"Fine then. Have fun being a loser," Flash said before walking away, everyone else following.
Your glare stayed till they were out of sight.
When they left you relaxed, but still felt this stinging pain rushing through you. Tears threatened to fall from your eyes as you realized you just lost both your date and your friends.
Your eyes wandered around the room. Technically, you were in the gym, the stench reminding you of it. Ned's friends seemed so far away now. They were having a little party of their own. You didn't want to barge in since you didn't know them too well.
You didn't understand why Ned left. Maybe it was because of Peter? If he's helping him with some friend issues, that was understandable. Still, it hurt.
Not long after, you saw Liz sitting on one of the benches with a tissue in hand as Betty was comforting her.
You remembered that Peter was her date.
And he left, too.
Feeling your heart wrench even more, you made your way to her. When Betty saw you approaching, she whispered an, "I'll be back in a bit," before leaving. Liz nodded in response.
She then looked up at you and pulled a weak attempt at a smile.
"Hey."
"Hey, Liz. You okay?"
You sat down next to her and she sighed. "My date left me. And I know I could still have fun with my friends, but I don't know if I would, to be honest."
"Mine left, too. It's okay, I know how you feel." You put an arm around her and gently rubbed her back.
"Ned left you? That sucks." Liz sniffled but turned to look at you.
"Yeah, it does. But I think he's just helping Peter with whatever's going on with him."
Liz frowned. She went back to dabbing her eyes with a tissue.
"Well, you can stay with me till he gets back. I don't think Peter will, but I'm sure Ned's gonna come back for you," she said.
Your heart twisted as you felt more tears threatening to fall. "Thanks, Liz."
For most of the night it was you and Liz together on the bench. You talked and talked and when you didn't, you'd watch everyone else dance. Betty came back to give you both some punch, but that was all you could muster your stomach to digest.
It wasn't too bad. The more you two talked, the less you thought about Ned. You managed to make a joke about Flash's date looking unimpressed by his dance moves, causing you both to laugh a little. Liz was your friend and you were more than happy to spend the night with her. But you still wished Ned was there.
After a while, you heard a door open and Ms. Warren say, "Next time I catch you doing things you're not supposed to, it's detention for you."
"Yes, ma'am."
Ned?
You turned your head towards the voice and saw Ned put his hat back on as he walked back into the gymnasium.
"Go to him," Liz said.
You turned back to her and frowned. "But what about you?"
"I'll be okay. Don't worry. I'll see you later, okay?"
Your lips tightened, not wanting to leave her, but you complied and said, "Okay."
Standing up, you made your way to Ned, who stood there searching around for you. When you came into his sight, he brightened up and walked to you.
"(Y/N), I am so sorry for leaving you. Peter was in trouble so I was helping him but then Ms. Warren caught me and I panicked and said I was looking at porn and you know I would never do that, but she dragged me back out here and—" you cut him off with a kiss on his lips.
It was definitely rushed, but you would try anything to calm him down. You smiled into kiss, then pulled back to find him flustered and wide-eyed.
Immediately, you worried you had crossed a line. "Sorry, was that too much?"
"No-no. That was-that was good." Ned began to relax more as your lips tugged into a small smile. "Do you want to dance?"
He extended out his hand for yours, making you giggle.
You let him take your hand and said, "Sure. I've been waiting so long for this."
As you both walked more towards the center of the gymnasium, Ned winced. "Yeah, sorry. But Peter needed help and I was gonna come back sooner, I promise."
You shook your head. "I'm not talking about that." Looking down for a moment, you fidgeted with your dress. "I mean, I've been waiting for this ever since eighth grade. You and me dancing at homecoming. I would've accepted prom, too, of course."
Ned chuckled at that.
"I like you, Ned Leeds. A lot." you said, stopping in the middle of the dance floor.
You looked up at him with eyes practically shaped like hearts. And you could tell his was the same way.
"I like you, too, (Y/N)," he said. Your heart was beating so loud you were sure he could hear it even with the blaring noise of people around you.
A new song began to play. A slow one. You put a hand on Ned's shoulder and he put a hand on your waist. As you both slowly rocked back and forth to the music, you could feel a bunch of eyes on you. But you didn't care for that anymore.
"Well, I'm glad," you said, "Because if you didn't I don't know what I'd do with myself."
And with that, your night ended just like you wished for. With you in Ned's arms humming along to a slow song with words that seemed to be meant for you two.
