One Of These Days | Eddie Brock [TH]

Another short & fluffy imagine <3

///

Eddie got home really late. His legs felt incredibly heavy as he marched slowly up the stairs. His feet dragged against the ground as he headed towards the front door. Digging his hand into his jeans pocket, he pulled out the set of keys and shoved it the correct one in the lock. Yawning loudly, he pushed the door open and stepped inside of the dark apartment.

He tossed his keys on the bowl you kept by the front door. He shrugged out of his jacket, too lazy to hang it up in the closet. He put it on the back of one of the mismatched kitchen chairs instead.

Eddie rubbed his face. He really needed to find a new apartment for his family.

There were baby things littered everywhere. A changing table had replaced the table that his plants lived on. The kitchen table was no longer there for eating meals, it was just there to hold all of the clean bottles.

The baby that came into your lives was a surprise. You and Eddie never expected to get pregnant less than a month after your wedding. You were thrilled, though. You had been so excited to be a mother, and when it happened so quickly...

Eddie had literally never seen you happier.

But you lived in the same one bedroom apartment that Eddie had moved into after Anne left him. The crib was stuffed in the corner of your bedroom.

On the way to bed, as Eddie kicked off his shoes and pulled his shirt off and over his head, he glanced in the crib, hoping to see his baby laying there sleeping soundly. But there was nothing but an empty, plain white sheet.

Glancing around, almost in panic, he couldn't help but find amusement in his own stupidity. You were laying on the bed, not sprawled out like you liked to lay. Instead, you were on your back. One of your hands was splayed against your pillow, and the other was looped around the figure of yours and Eddie's son.

Eddie approached the bed slowly, a smile tugging at his lips. He was so tired, and he was so stressed (both from the fear of never finding an apartment good and big enough for his family that would surely grow more in the future, and the fear and stress of living with an uncontrollable symbiote inside of him), but right in front of him was his happiness.

He laughed softly and grabbed a pair of sweats out of the basket of clean laundry that had not been folded yet.

After changing, he took another long minute to look at the face of his son.

Then, lifting his knees slowly onto the bed, he was careful to not shift the bed too much as he climbed inside. He lifted the corner of the blanket and slid into it, intertwining his legs with yours.

This woke you, but it did so gently.

Your eyes peeled open and your breath hitched a little. "Mm.... Eddie?"

"Yeah," he said. He leaned down and kissed your forehead. "Sorry I'm getting in so late, baby."

"S'okay," you mumbled, letting your eyes close. "How were things?"

"They'll be okay," he said. "How was the kiddo?"

"He cried a lot. I think it's because he missed you," you said.

He chuckled. "Maybe."

You smiled a little. "I miss you, Eddie. I miss you a lot."

"I know, baby," he said, stroking your cheek. "I am so sorry to leave you so often. I just... I'm trying, you know? I'm trying to build something good for us."

"I know, Eddie. I'm not mad." You reached over with your one free hand. "I just miss having you around with me."

"Yeah," he said. "I miss you a lot too, baby. Trust me. But soon I'll do something right, okay?" You didn't respond, and Eddie smiled, knowing that you were already falling back asleep. He leaned in and pressed his lips to yours. "One of these days I'll be a good dad and a good husband. One of these days I will do something right."

He looked down at his son, whose stomach rose and fell with steady breaths. He let his palm lay gently on his belly and then gently brushed his rough fingertips over the soft skin of his face. He traced his tiny lips, which were exactly like yours. And he moved his fingers ever-so-carefully over the soft brown hair on the top of his head.

"One of these days, I'm going to treat you how to take care of your mama. And then I am going to teach you how to take care of your own lady. Because your mama... she is one of a kind, kiddo. How I lucked out with her, I am not sure."

You sighed through your lips. "I can hear you talking, Eddie."

He grinned. "Can you now?"

"Leave our son alone and get some sleep," you said.

"Yes, my love," he responded. He kissed you once more on the still lips and then pulled the blanket up around his shoulders.

But Eddie didn't sleep. Instead, he just stared at the two people who made up his entire world, and he found that he was more at peace than he would be by doing anything else.
