You and Peter had been married for only six months, and you had some big news to tell your family at the Avengers Headquarters. You couldn't wait to surprise them. On your lap was a roll of black and white photos of the ultrasound you'd gotten earlier that day.
"Dad is going to flip," you said. You hadn't stopped smiling since you'd first heard your baby's heartbeat.
Peter laughed. "Yeah..." he said. His hands suddenly gripped the steering wheel a little tight. "Wait... you don't think that he's going to be mad that you're pregnant, do you?"
You gave your husband a confused look. "Peter, honey. We're married. It's not like we're kids getting ready to have a kid."
"Right, right. Yeah I'm just... panicky. This has been a weird day, you know?"
You reached over and patted his leg. "I know. You are happy though, right? You want to be a dad?"
"Of course, yeah. I want to be a dad." He stole a glance from you. "You seriously think I might not want this baby?"
You bit on one of your fingernails and shrugged. "I mean... no, but it's something any pregnant lady worries about, I think." He gave you an amused and unsure look. "Oh, shut up, Peter. I'm hormonal, alright?"
He laughed and took one hand off of the steering wheel to hold your hand.

Inside of Avengers Headquarters, Sam was the first to see you. He wrapped you up into a hug and squeezed you tight. Peter's eyes flashed wide and you shot him a warning glance to shut up. You were fine, the baby was fine, and the last thing you wanted was him to ruin the surprise by announcing it out of fear.
"Hey, Sam," you said, pulling back.
"It's been a while, girl," he said. "How have you been?"
"Busy," you said, nodding. "Yeah, Peter and I finally finished moving into the new house yesterday. Everything is unpacked and we're finally able to actually live like a normal married couple for the first time ever."
"I'm happy for you guys," Sam said.
"Thanks," you replied. "Uh, where is my dad-?"
"I'm right here." You turned and saw him coming down the stairs, his cloak following behind him like a pet. "Why didn't you call and tell me you were on your way?"
"We just decided to stop by, Dad," you told him. You wrapped your arms around him and he hugged you right back.
"Well I am glad you did. How are you, Peter?"
"Fine, sir," Peter said, stammering a little. Your father furrowed his eyebrows and you shot Peter a look that said get it together. "I'm fine."
"What's the matter with him?" your dad asked.
"I'm not sure," you sighed.
Sam, arms crossed, looked at Peter. "He's a freakin' weirdo, that's what's the matter with him."
Your dad shook his head. "Are you staying for dinner?"
"Uh, yeah, we are." You looked to Peter for confirmation, who nodded. "Dinner sounds great."
"Great. Vision and Wanda are cooking tonight. But come in the kitchen with me, I'll make coffee for everyone," he said.
You followed your dad, grabbing Peter's hand and dragging him along with you, too. Peter was quieter than usual, and why he was nervous to tell your dad, you weren't sure.
"So have you applied for any new jobs yet?" your dad asked.
"Uh, no," you said. "Not yet."
"Why not? You're gonna waste that college education you worked hard for."
"You mean the college education you forced me to have," you said.
He pointed at you. "Yup. That one." He smiled. "But seriously, why aren't you applying for a job?"
"Well, Peter has his job at the Daily Bugle-"
"Yeah, but you've got a house now," your dad reminded you.
You glanced at Peter, who looked sick and pale. "Well, there are other reasons why I haven't applied anywhere..." You took a seat at one of the stools pulled up to the kitchen island. Reaching into your back pocket, you pulled out the three photos of the baby.
Your dad filled a mug with coffee. Peter walked up to stand behind you. His hand touched your back.
"Oh, yeah?" your dad asked, not really paying attention.
You took the photos and, glancing at Peter, slid them across the kitchen island.
Your dad saw them and froze. Slowly, his hand reached for them. His fingers landed on the smooth side of the photo. He pulled them closer.
His eyes darted from the small little clump of life in picture - the baby that was too small to have arms or legs or any distinctive features yet, but was still alive and had a beating heart - to you.
"Is this..." he breathed. "Is this your baby?"
"Yeah, Dad," you replied, just as soft. "It's ours."
He walked around the table and pulled you into a tight hug. Your eyes watered and leaked over with warm tears as you clutched your father and held on tight.
A few minutes later, the three of you went into the living room, where everyone was sitting around. Peter held your hand as you stood in front of the television and turned it off.
"You kidding me?" Scott asked, and Sam gave you a dirty look.
"I have something to tell you guys," you said, raising your eyebrows.
You looked at Peter. He said, "We're expecting." You held up the roll of photos from your ultrasound.
Everyone erupted in cheers. Wong congratulated your dad, who thanked him and then wrapped an arm around your waist.
"When's the due date?" Carol asked.
"October," you said, beaming.
"Cassie is going to be so excited," Scott said.
Wanda was leaning against Vision's chest, his arms wrapped around her. "Congratulations, guys."
"Thank you."
During dinner, you sat between Carol and Wanda. They gushed with you over the pictures of your tiny baby.
Peter watched from the other side of the room, sipping a soda. Stephen Strange walked up to him, one hand in his pocket, the other around a glass of alcohol.
"Are you nervous?" he asked his son-in-law.
"Were you?" Peter asked.
"Yeah," he replied. "Of course, I wasn't married to her mother, and her mother happened to hate me because I was not the greatest boyfriend... but this is different, you know. You two are different. I know you're going to be a good dad, Peter. And I know that she's going to be a good mom."
"Thanks," Peter said, smiling. "But I'm not so sure that I'm nervous. When she took that pregnancy test and it was positive, it just felt right. And then I started to think about how May is gonna get to see the baby before she gets too old to feel like a grandma. And I'm ready for all of it, honestly. The late nights, the bottle feedings, the dirty diapers - all of that is worth it because that's our kid."
Stephen smiled. "Yeah, you're gonna be just fine as a dad."
