Rhodes, gripping both of your sore arms, flew you out of the rubble of what used to be Avengers Headquarters. Just moments ago, the entire place was bombed - right after Professor Hulk had snapped his fingers to bring everyone back.
Outside was chaos. There were ships scattering the cloudy sky that swirled with grey and purple. And in under that menacing sky, the most terrifying army you'd ever seen.
Your eyes widened as you saw not only Thanos and all of his children, but portals opening.
Dozens and dozens of them.
And stepping out of them weren't things that frightened you. First, you saw the Black Panther. Then you saw the Guardians.
And it hit you right in the gut-
These were the people that you'd thought you'd lost.
That you had lost.
Rhodes dropped you to the ground. With teary eyes, you stepped forward and whispered one name. "Peter?"
And there he was.
Peter Parker, your seventeen year old best friend that had vanished right after you turned fourteen. Peter Parker, who'd been gone for five years, who was still the same teenager.
"Peter!" you screamed. You sprinted forward, boots slipping down the hill of mud and ruined ground. You landed on your feet and took several bounding steps, leaping into the air to get to him. "Peter-!"
His mask was off. He turned around, eyebrow furrowing. "Whoa!" He lifted his hand as if to shoot you, but when you landed in front of him and wrapped him up in a hug, he recognized you. "___?"
You were sobbing, holding onto him. There was a fight going on, but you couldn't focus on it.
He pulled you back. He was shaking. "Holy crap, are you really, you know - you?"
"Yeah," you laughed. You shook your head. "You've been gone for five years, Peter."
He blinked slowly. He looked around. "Five... years?"
You were crying. "We've tried everything. And now... now we've finally got you back."
"It felt like five hours," he said.
You shook your head and reached up, cupping his face. "I'm sorry, Peter."
He opened his mouth to speak, then his eyes darted to something behind you. He shoved you suddenly, sending you flying. You landed on your stomach, lifting your head to see Peter standing in front of one of the children of Thanos, both of his hands on the spear that the creature was trying to push against his neck.
"Peter!" you screamed, getting up.
"Go, go! Get out of here!"
You stood your ground and held out your wrists. Firing rapidly, you covered the creature in webs. His arms were glued at his sides now. You shot two long, stringy webs at the front of him and yanked him away from Peter.
"Holy... you're Spider-Man now?" he asked in unbelief.
"Spider-Woman."
"Oh... okay. Since when are you a hero?"
"Since the world lost Spider-Man," you said. "Why do you think I'm here, anyway?"
"I-I don't know. Didn't really think about it I guess. Got a lot going on."
You nodded, then touched the side of your jaw. Your mask appeared on your face. "Cover me," you said. You swung off.
"Did Mr. Stark make your suit, too?" he asked.
"Yup," you replied. You did a flip in the air, grabbing two of the dog-like creatures and breaking their heads against one another.
Peter followed you, taking out any of the creatures that lunged for you. You swung around Peter, reaching out and grabbing his arm so he would follow you.
Your fingers slipped in his as you broke off your web and fell towards the ground. "We need to get the gauntlet," you said.
"The gauntlet. Right." He nodded.
In sync, you landed on your feet. You punched your way through a pack of dog-like aliens and saw the Black Panther drop the gauntlet on the ground, Thanos inches away.
You gasped and sprinted towards it. "Peter!" you shouted, but he was already distracting Thanos while you dropped to the ground, slid across the wet mud, and grabbed the weapon. You turned around, hair whipping around your face.
Now that you had the gauntlet, you weren't sure what to do with it. What was the plan? Where was this going to go?
Peter had both of Thanos' fists against his palms as he attempted to push him back. "____... run!"
"Don't run from me, child!" Thanos threatened, but you were sprinting off, forcing your body to book it up the side of a hill.
You hooked the gauntlet under your arm. With your free hand, you touched the piece of tech at your jaw. "Guys! Peter is facing Thanos alone. Someone needs to get over there and-"
"I've got a plan," you heard Carol say. You looked up and saw her breaking through the atmosphere. You came to a stop as she floated above you. "Why don't you give me the gauntlet and I take care of that part?"
You smiled and tossed it in the sky. She caught it.
"Go save that friend of yours."
You nodded and took back off down the hill. Shooting a few webs, you launched yourself in the sky and down towards Thanos. Your knees met the side of his head. You flipped, wrapping webs around his neck. Landing behind Peter, you tugged, choking Thanos and tilting him to the side.
"Jeez, you're awesome at that!" Peter exclaimed.
You smirked.
But Thanos was getting frustrated. He managed to grab your webs and yanked on them, bringing you to a halting stop as his fist met your face.
You gasped and were shot backwards. You felt your head collide with the ground at the same time you heard Peter scream your name.
When your eyes opened, he was leaning over you. You smiled a little, just because it was good to see him alive.
"Hey, Pete," you said. "I kinda... I hit my head just now."
"I know, I saw. You're bleeding. Oh crap, you're bleeding a lot." He shook his head and reached out hesitantly, his fingers touching your temple. "Can you see me?"
"I can," you said, smiling wider. "And Pete, it's so good to see you. I'm so glad I have my best friend back. I've waited for you for a long time."
He was tearing up, but he grinned. "I-I know you did. Hey. I love you."
"I love you, too," you whispered. "But I'm not dying."
"I know you aren't. I just..." He nodded. "I'm really glad to be back." His hands wrapped around yours as he helped you up. "Back with you."
