Surprise Summer Visit
A couple days later, it was Friday, the last day of school. Which meant that it would soon be time for summer vacation. Not gonna lie, I like summer vacation. Don't have to worry about homework and all that, and I have more time to fight crime as Spider-Man. This'll be the third summer in which I've been Spider-Man. I was 15 going on 16 in the springtime when I went to that science convention and got bitten by that spider that was exposed to radioactive rays. Never imagined something extraordinary like that would happen.
Of course, that doesn't mean I'm not free of some responsibilities. Such as finding a job to help Aunt May make ends meet. Giving photos of Spider-Man to the Daily Bugle has been helpful, but it's sadly not enough. I'm technically not a full time member of The Bugle, and I'm still a minor. Maybe I might have better luck getting a job at a fast food place or pizza delivery. Betty Brant was kind enough to let me use her as a reference for my job resume that I'll have to update. I'll have to go to the library today and make a new resume on one of the library computers. It's easy enough and doable. I took the bus home and once I was outside my house, I got inside. "Hey Aunt May, I'm home!" I said, "I'm gonna look for my computer thumb drive and head to the library to make a new job resume." I wandered to the living room as Aunt May said, "oh hello Peter. Don't you want to stay awhile? We have a surprise visitor." Before I can ask who the visitor is, the stranger stands up to reveal himself. I'd seen this man on the news before. It was Gotham's billionaire philanthropist CEO of Wayne Enterprises, Bruce Wayne himself!
"Hello Peter, I've been expecting you." Bruce said in his billionaire playboy voice. I'm shocked beyond words until I regain my ability to speak and I say, "uh... Hi. You're Bruce Wayne?" Bruce smiled and said, "that's right. I think it's about time we met, son." Bruce offered his hand, and I shook it, in a state of disbelief. "It's nice to meet you, Mr. Wayne." I said, awestruck. "I'm sure you may be wondering why I'm here Peter," said Bruce, "it actually has to do with your parentage." I gave a confused look and asked, "my parentage?" Bruce looked at my aunt and asked, "did you or your husband tell Peter about his parents?" Aunt May shook her head and replied, "Ben never got a chance and I haven't yet. I wanted to tell Peter once he was 18 since his birthday is in a few months from now..." I raised my eyebrow and asked, "tell me what?" Aunt May replied, "Peter, before your mother and father left you in our care, Richard gave us a letter and an important document. Your Uncle Ben and I were given explicit instructions to not give you the letter and documents until your 18th birthday. But I think you're old enough to know the truth, now. Peter, your parents Richard and Mary are not your biological parents. You were adopted."
"Adopted??" I asked in shock. I'm not actually a Parker?!?!?!?!? Bruce placed his hand on my shoulder and said, "your aunt is telling the truth, Peter. I should know. I am your father." I looked at Bruce with disbelief. Bruce Wayne, the billionaire playboy philanthropist is my actual father? Even Aunt May can't believe that. "No... This can't be real..." I said, breathing fast, on the verge of panicking. Aunt May placed her hands on my shoulders and said, "Peter, look at me. Calm down. Take deep breaths with me until you feel better." I breathed in with Aunt May a couple times, and then I breathed out. A couple breaths later, the panic and anxiety I was feeling was starting to go away. "I need to get the documents that prove you were adopted. Just stay with Mr. Wayne until I come back," said Aunt May as she left the room. I noticed Bruce was eating some of Aunt May's date loaf. The more I look at Bruce, the more I see a resemblance. Mary Jane always joked that I looked like Bruce Wayne. Aunt May came back with an envelope and said, "according to Richard and Mary, the reason we never saw your official birth certificate was because it was in SHIELD custody." She got out a piece of paper and took a look at it. She looked at Bruce, and she was thinking the same thing I was thinking. She then gave me the paper, which was a document that certified I was adopted by Richard Parker and Mary Parker. It also showed that Bruce Wayne was my biological father and that someone named Talia Al Ghul was my biological mother. I looked at the adoption paper, and at the man who is my father. Aunt May then said, "Richard also told your uncle and me that if you had any questions about your bloodline, you could talk to Melinda May."
"Melinda May?" I asked, "from up the street?" Aunt May nodded and said, "she was a friend of Richard and Mary and she knew Mary better than I did." I looked at Bruce and said, "I guess it wouldn't hurt to know a little bit more. Do you think she might know anything about this Talia Al Ghul?" Bruce nodded and said, "I would too. But I'm sure Melinda could help too." I shrugged and said, "well, guess we can do it now. I'm ready. You?" Bruce nodded and said, "of course." But I could have sworn Bruce's voice sounded a bit lower...
