A Battle Not Of Blades, But Words
We traveled from Gotham City to Nanda Parbat for many hours. Barbara and Alfred promised they'd cover for me if Aunt May grew concerned. "Alright, I gotta warn ya about your mom," stated Jason, "Talia Al Ghul is a dangerous person and she will not hesitate to kill you. Do not underestimate her. She is one of the most deadliest assassins in the world. She's right up there with Deathstroke." I crossed my arms and said, "like I would really underestimate the person who ordered the deaths of my parents."
"Okay, point taken," said Jason. "Y'know before I saw you, I ran into Lynn." I said. "Oh you did, huh?" Jason rhetorically asked, "she's fine looking, ain't she?" I nodded and said, "oh yeah. She was nice to talk to. Certainly wish you or Dick or Dad mentioned her to me, Babs." Oracle said on the radio, "sorry about that, Peter. I guess we must have spaced." An hour later, we were by the mountains of Nanda Parbat. "This is where I was reborn," stated Jason, "this is your birthplace, Peter." I looked at the view and asked, "Oracle, you got eyes on Dad?" Oracle said in the Batwing, "heartbeat still active. Keep going straight, Jason." Red Hood nodded and replied, "Roger that, Oracle. I always wanted to say Roger." Jason flew the Batwing straight to the mountains where there was a cave between some of the mountains. I looked at Jason and said, "I'm going in." Jason opened the hatch to the Batwing and said, "okay then. You're on your own. If you and Bruce aren't back in an hour, I'm leaving you. Godspeed, Spider-Man. And don't do anything stupid." I unbuckled and stood up, replying, "how can I? You're taking all the stupid with you." I then leapt out of the Batwing and into the entrance of the cave. I wandered around, looking for Dad, trying not to arouse any attention and trying to see to it there weren't any booby traps. Five minutes later, I saw Dad on his knees, arms chained behind him, along with his legs. His utility belt was missing, but he still had the rest of his Batsuit. Next to him was another man, kneeling on both knees, arms and legs restrained behind him, a bag over his entire head, obscuring his face, he was wearing the standard orange prison uniform. "Dad?" I asked, rushing over to him. I used my spider strength to break my father's chains as I asked, "Dad, are you okay?" Dad groaned, "Peter? What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to save you and Carradine." I replied, "come on up." Dad looked at me and said, "Peter, leave me. My arms and legs are useless right now and besides, this is a trap!" I looked at my dad and I said, "I'm not leaving you! I'm going to get the both of you out of here!" Suddenly, a feminine voice said, "oh, leaving so soon? I was hoping you would stay..." I turned around and saw a woman who looked to be a bit younger than my Aunt May, who had fair skin, green eyes, long brown hair, and a slender body figure while wearing a black jumpsuit. She held two swords. This was my biological mother, Talia Al Ghul.
"What have you done to my father?!?!?!" I asked. "Oh my child, is that any way to talk to your mother?" Talia taunted, "do not fear, your father's arms and legs are paralyzed, albeit temporarily. He'll regain the use of his limbs, eventually." I looked at my mother and said, "so you're Talia Al Ghul, daughter of Ra's Al Ghul?" Talia nodded and said, "I am. And you are my son... I imagined you taller. Remove your mask."
"Why?" I asked. Talia moved closer to me and said, "I only wish to see the face of my child, Damian." I took off my mask and looked at Talia with my own eyes. Talia touched my face and softly said, "I have waited a long time to reunite with you, Ibn al Xu'ffasch. I thought I would never see you again. The bloodshed to find you was worth it. My, you have grown, my Damian." I shook my head and said, "my name isn't Damian. My name is Peter Parker. Why did you kidnap my father and my uncle's killer?"
"Don't you understand, Damian?" Talia asked, "I knew this would be the only way to bring you back to me. You are the grandson of Ra's Al Ghul, you are heir to our throne. You are destined to become the League of Assassins' new ruler! I brought you here because the time for you to fulfill your destiny is now!"
"Don't listen to her, Peter!" Dad protested, "you know she's trying to use you for her own self-benefit!" Talia then slapped my father and bellowed, "SILENCE!!! You may have been my beloved once, but no longer! I will no longer allow you to corrupt my son! You have weakened him for the last time, Detective!" I got in between my parents and said, "leave my dad alone! What if being the ruler of The League isn't what I want? I want to help people, not kill them. Helping is the right thing to do."
"But I want to help you as well, my son," said Talia, "I know why you fight as the Spider-Man. The guilt that drives you, it is not unlike your father... That's why I brought the person responsible for your uncle's death along as well." Talia then took off Dennis's mask, revealing his face! I looked at Dennis in horror, unable to scream! His ears were cut off and cauterized, his eyes were stabbed and empty, and when he moaned in pain, I saw his tongue was missing. It was like that scene in The Mummy where that professor lost his eyes and tongue. "What have you done?" I asked. "Punished him," replied Talia, "do you really want Dennis Carradine to know you are the son of Bruce Wayne and also Spider-Man? He will enter the bowels of Hell blind, deaf, and dumb, and Lucifer himself will know who killed him." I hesitated to look at my mother, horrified by the cruelty she had inflicted upon Uncle Ben's murderer. Uncle Ben would never wish this upon his killer... But when I finally looked at Talia I asked, "what are you saying???"
"Join me Damian," offered Talia, "fulfill your destiny and become the ruler to The League Of Assassins! And when you have joined us, avenge your uncle by murdering the pig that killed him!" She handed me one of her swords and said, "swear your allegiance to me. I know Ben Parker was like a father to you, and you know you want revenge for him..." I held the sword in my right hand, and looked at it. I looked at Dennis Carradine, a shell of his former self now. I looked at Talia. And I looked at my father. No matter the choice I make, there's no going back. I know what I must do. I raised my sword...
and then I tossed the sword aside, discarding it. I looked at Talia and said, "never." Talia gave a look of disbelief and asked, "what?!?!?! Why?!?!? Why do you refuse to exact revenge upon this killer?!?!!!? Isn't this what you wanted?!?!?!?" I shook my head and replied, "you have no idea what I've wanted, Talia. I don't think you know me at all. When I was adopted, my parents wanted me to make my own choices, live my own life based on what I wanted, not what you and my grandfather wanted to decide for me. I don't want to be someone that decides who lives or dies, even if that person has done something horrible as kill a family member. I'm not a killer. I believe in justice, not vengeance, like my father before me. And he or Uncle Ben certainly wouldn't want me to kill out of revenge. It's a poison that can take anyone over, and before you know it, revenge will turn anyone ugly. I won't kill Dennis Carradine because I already brought him to justice. What you've done to Carradine was cruel and something I would never wish upon him. Even Uncle Ben would never wish this upon him. What I do know is that Carradine will have a fate worse than death, the curse of knowledge that he killed an innocent man and caused grief to his family. Living with knowledge like that is a fate worse than death." I turned my back and said, "you have gone too far, Talia Al Ghul. From the bottom of my heart, I want you to know, I will never stoop to your level and I will never join you... That is a promise." I looked to my father, who was relieved and I could tell that Talia was enraged. She then angrily said, "if you will not join me as my heir, THEN YOU WILL DIE!!!"
Talia raised her other sword and was ready to slash at either me or Dad, but with my Spider Senses, I caught the sword with my hand, given that my gloves were impervious to blades, I grabbed the sword, and I broke the blade in two. Talia then engaged with me in a physical fight. I dodged her punches and kicks, and then I punched her in the gut, and then I used my webbing to have her legs and arms stick to the ground. "Family is a bond that needs to be earned." I said to Talia, "biologically you may be my mother, but you also ordered the deaths of my parents. You're not part of my family." I went to Dad and asked, "how are your arms and legs now?" I helped him up and he groaned, "lousy. But I'll manage." I helped Carradine up and I said, "hey it's like you said, we fall so we can pick ourselves up again." Dad got me my mask which I put back on, and as we walked, Talia yelled, "YOU ARE A DISGRACE, AND YOU BRING DISHONOR, WEAKNESS, AND GREAT SHAME TO THE NAME OF RA'S AL GHUL!!!!!" I looked at Talia one last time, and I said, "I don't care."
We left the cave, and saw Jason was still in the Batwing. "I'm proud of you, Peter." Dad said, "it took great courage to stand up to Talia and not kill." I shrugged and said, "it's like you said, it's not who you are underneath, it's what you do that defines you." Jason looked at us and said, "well, you boys look like you had fun." Dad gave a look of surprise and asked, "Jason? You brought my son here?" Jason replied, "kid was able to reason with me. And now this is the part where we part ways." Jason stood up and I asked, "you sure you don't need help getting back?" Jason chuckled, "I have my ways. I'm a survivor. Next time you see Lynn, tell her I said hi. See you around, kiddo." Jason then leapt out of the Batwing, and I have no idea where he went afterwards. Dad, Dennis, and I got in the plane, and Dad said, "let's go home."
