CHAPTER 35
Taehyung's heart was racing as he pulled up to Erin's place. The mix of guilt, excitement, and stress had him all over the place. Finding out ELIAS was his kid was hitting him hard. Jungkook had been a real rock, backing him up through the whole mess, but nothing could prep him for the reality check he was about to face.
The rain was pouring like crazy, turning the city into a giant water park. It felt like nature was in on the drama, reflecting his own swirling feelings. Every drop that hit the windshield seemed to make him feel even more mixed up, with anger and joy fighting for control.
By the time he rolled up to Erin’s, the forest around her place looked straight out of a horror movie. The moon was barely visible through the stormy mist, adding to the whole creepy vibe. It was like the world was fogging up with the weight of the truth he was about to confront.
As Taehyung got closer, he saw Erin through the rain. She was busy with something, her silhouette glowing under the sparse light. Her long, wavy hair and golden skin looked unreal in the moonlight. Despite everything, he couldn’t help but admire her.
But then, bam—this awful smell hit him. He had to cover his nose with the paper he was holding. “What’s that stench, Erin?” he asked, cringing.
Erin turned, surprised to see him standing there in the middle of the night. “What are you doing here now?” she asked, looking puzzled.
When Erin first saw Taehyung standing there in the pouring rain, it was like someone had hit the pause button on her world. Her eyes went wide, and she froze for a moment, completely caught off guard. Her hands, which had been busy with the basket, halted mid-air. The surprise was evident on her face; she looked like she had seen a ghost or something equally shocking.
The suddenness of his appearance, combined with the late hour and the stormy weather, threw her off balance. She blinked rapidly, trying to process the sight of him, his drenched figure emerging from the shadows of the rain-soaked night.
He glanced at the scene around her. Stray dogs were swarming, fighting over scraps of meat that had spilled out of a tipped basket. The dogs were making a mess, barking and snapping at each other for the scraps. Erin had left the basket behind, and now the dogs were making a total ruckus.
Taehyung stepped closer, feeling a mix of concern and frustration. “Why the hell are you feeding these dogs like this?” His voice wavered, caught between anger and confusion.
Erin’s expression softened as she faced him. “It’s a long story, Taehyung. There’s a lot you don’t get yet.”
The rain kept coming down hard, and it felt like everything around them was drenched in tension. Taehyung stood there, soaked and emotionally drained, trying to make sense of Erin’s actions and the new reality about Elias. Jungkook’s support seemed miles away, even though he was fresh in Taehyung’s thoughts. The storm outside was just like the storm inside—wild and unrelenting, shaking him up more than ever.
Erin was just about to chill when she spotted Taehyung sprawled out on the couch. She had made a cozy hot chocolate and was ready to settle in for the night. But when she went back to him, he looked like he was about to pop a vein. His eyes were locked on her like she was some kind of sweet deal, but then he shot her a question that threw her for a loop.
“What was that meat earlier?” Taehyung asked outta nowhere, making Erin's heart skip a beat. She wasn't exactly prepared for this. With a lump in her throat, she said, “Oh, that? Just some rotten meat we had in the backyard. Thought I'd let the stray dogs take care of it.”
Taehyung raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it, but he let it slide for now. His eyes, though, were glued to the paper in his hands, and Erin was itching to know what it was about.
“So, what’s with the paper?” she asked, trying to switch gears. Taehyung’s face lit up like a Christmas tree. He looked like he was about to pop with questions. He finally got around to asking, “Did you ever have an IVF operation?”
Erin was like, “Whoa!” She felt the ice literally run through her veins. It was like someone had thrown a bucket of cold water on her. Taehyung gave her the nod, so she knew she had to spill the beans. With the rain tapping softly against the window, she started, “Yeah, actually, Elias was born through artificial insemination.” Taehyung’s breath hitched, and he seemed to digest the news like a heavy meal.
“So, Jungkook told you, huh?” Erin said, piecing it all together. She remembered Jungkook hanging around Taehyung’s place. It all made sense now. Erin’s mind raced as she thought about the guilt she’d been carrying. It was time to come clean.
She took Taehyung’s hand in hers and looked into his eyes. It was like her eyes were trying to talk to him in a language he didn’t fully understand, but he was captivated.
“Back in the day, my husband and I were trying so hard to have a baby, but nothing was working. We went to a doctor, and found out Antoine had azospermia. Basically, he had almost no sperm count.”
Taehyung’s face fell, feeling the weight of the news. Erin continued, “My dad suggested we go to Korea. That’s where Jungkook came into the picture. He was our IVF specialist.”
Taehyung was all ears, and Erin pressed on, “Two years ago, I found out I was pregnant through AI, and we were over the moon. But then, Antoine passed away from stomach cancer.” Tears streamed down her face as she spoke, and Taehyung pulled her into a comforting hug. He whispered sweet nothings into her ear, promising his unwavering support.
As they clung to each other, Taehyung’s mind was a whirlwind. He suddenly felt like he had to reveal his own secret. “Do you have any idea who donated the sperm?” he asked, his voice trembling.
Erin shook her head. “I don’t know, but whoever it was—thank to him.”
Taehyung’s smile was a mix of relief and happiness. “What if I told you it was me?”
Erin’s jaw dropped. Her eyes widened as if she’d seen a ghost. “What? You’re kidding me, right?”
Taehyung shook his head. “Nah, I’m serious. I donated sperm back then, and I didn’t know it was for you.”
Erin’s disbelief was off the charts. She could barely process the news. She hugged him tightly, burying her face in his neck. Taehyung wrapped his arms around her, feeling like the luckiest guy in the world. “I can’t wait to start a family with you,” he said.
In that moment, Erin was ready to embrace her new life, knowing the twists and turns she had taken to end up here. It wasn’t just about the baby or the past; it was about the future they were about to build together.
In her mind, Erin whispered, “Finally, I got you, Taehyung.” Then, she pulled him in for a kiss that was as intense as it was sweet. Their breaths mingled, creating a melody of emotions.
Erin smiled, but there was something more in her eyes—something fleeting. She thought about all the effort she’d put in to get Taehyung into her life. It wasn’t just a walk in the park; it was a marathon. She’d fought with her family and even done away with her husband to get to this
