three: lies
Taehyung grumbled and turned in his half-asleep state. His eyes opened slowly and closed, unconsciously reaching for his blanket and pulling it up higher. What he didn't expect was to feel a very soft velvet, unlike the crusty cotton sheet. Confused, he opened his eyes again, only to see tiled ceiling. He looked around, thinking about how in the world Jimin switched their bunk bed for a canopy bed.
And that's when it hit.
Taehyung screamed. He screamed and screamed, as loud as he could. Instantly by his side were probably all the maids and guards, Namjoon, and a couple other unknown uniformed elves.
"Oh my fucking god, why the fuck am I still dreaming?" He yelled, snapping up from his bed. He grabbed the blanket and crawled back, his back hitting the headboard. "What the fuck? What the actual fuck?"
"Your majesty, please refrain from using such language. You may all go, it was a false alarm. Prepare breakfast for the prince," Namjoon said calmly. Everyone nodded, bowed, and left the two alone.
"Someone explain. Why does this dream feel so long?" Taehyung started. He looked around, starting to touch everything around him. "Why does it feel so real??"
"As we tried to explain yesterday, it is," the older stated.
Taehyung froze. His hand returned to his lap as he slumped down into the very comfortable bed. He then began shaking his head. "No! No no no no no. I'm still dreaming. God why isn't Jimin waking me up??"
"Because he's still in Earth, unfortunately," Namjoon said.
"Okay, okay. Let me gather my thoughts." Taehyung took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly, repeating a couple times to calm down. "I'm in a parallel universe, in a planet called Elvador, prince of the Kingdom Saphia, I have powers that I have not mastered yet, my parents are dead, the only family I have is my cousin Seokjin and his mother, and I'm an elf. Are you sure it's not a dream?"
Namjoon smiled. "Yes, your majesty."
"Y-Yeah, um, I need a moment. Alone, please?"
"Of course, I will wait in the dining room." With that, Namjoon left the room closing the door behind him quietly.
Taehyung looked around once again, taking in all the extravagant furniture and layout. It truly was a work of art. Then, immediately proceeded to jump out of the bed and scramble around to look for a way to escape. See, Taehyung was convinced he has been kidnapped.
"There's no other way. The window is the only option," Taehyung said to himself. He made his way to the large window, showing off the pretty view of the morning sky and the village looking like tiny dots. He searched until he found a way to open it. He looked down and gulped knowing he'll never make it alive. "Well, it's better than getting chopped up and having parts of me shipped off to god knows where."
He first sticked out his head, then placed his arms on the frame for support as he began sticking his leg out–
"Why are you still trying to jump out of a window? I told you, you can't fly yet."
Startled, Taehyung stumbled back, hitting his head against the frame in the process and landing on his back. He groaned and opened his eyes to see and upside down Jeongguk staring down at him.
He frowned. "What're you doing?"
Taehyung scrambled to his feet and got in a defensive stance. "Back off, I know umm... karate!"
The young elf lifted a brow. He scanned the boy from head to toe and sighed. "We've got lot of work to do," he muttered to himself. He unfolded his arms. "Dress up. You need to eat. We're heading back to Earth to get your stuff and someone afterwards. I'll wait outside, be quick."
Taehyung's eyes widened. Was his captor actually going to bring him back? What a dumb thing to do, Taehyung thought, but decided this was his chance. He just had to play along until he got back home. Jeongguk left the room without even waiting for the other's response.
Taehyung brushed it off and let his hands relax. He made his way to what he found on his search for escape as his closet. Opening it, he was greeted to a whole new room decorated in the most beautiful piece of garments, fabric, and accessories. It was heaven. Taehyung entered with his mouth wide, fingers grazing over the intricate beading in a few robes. He stopped when he realized what he was doing, snapping out of it. His eyes then caught his normal clothes folded up neatly in the corner of the room.
He rushed to it, quickly taking of his night clothing made out of the most softest silk to trade it with his cheap knock off Levi jeans and the simple t-shirt. He was definitely looking like a real prince now. His clothes oddly smelt nice like they had been washed but instead of water they used a garden of roses. Taehyung's clothes never smelt that nice with the messed up laundry machines his apartment provided.
He dug through his pocket and pulled out his phone. Of course it was dead, not like it'd be useful if it was on anyways.
With caution, Taehyung opened the door and peaked out. He looked to his left, seeing that there was just a guard looking straight ahead. To the right, the exact same as if it was a mirror.
"Umm, are you okay?" a voice asked, once again startling him. He instantly straightened his back and smiled. "Yup! Let's go see Namjoon."
Jeongguk nodded and began leading him to the dinning area. A room decorated in portraits of no one Taehyung could recognized and a very long table in the middle with just too many chairs. Namjoon, Jin, and Hoseok were sat at the end. The walk there felt like forever.
"Take a seat, we were just discussing your return announcement. Your aunt has been playing the role of the Queen while you were gone, but she must ecstatic that it's finally over. We also must plan your coronation," Namjoon informed him. They eyed his choice of clothing, but said nothing of the matter. No one can go against the prince.
Taehyung nodded, taking a seat in front of a plate already prepared food. An American style breakfast. He looked over to the other plates and they looked very different from his.
Namjoon noticed the confusion. "I told them to prepare you this. You should adjust to our food slowly, it's quite the jump from human's junky garbage."
"Right," Taehyung stretched. He picked up a fork and knife, carefully cutting his sunny side up egg, but the yolk didn't run. He took a bite of it hesitantly, scared they might've poisoned it. He slowly brought it up to his lips and took the tiniest of bite. Even thought it was just a little piece, it blasted Taehyung mouth with flavours he wasn't familiar. All he knew was that he wanted more.
The others laughed watching the prince dig in happily. "It's a dragon's egg, I knew you'd like it."
Taehyung froze mid-chew and looked up, eyes big. "A what now?" he tried to say, but it came out as "A wa na?"
They laughed again. Hoseok raised his hand and waved. "No no, not the dragon you know off. Well yes, but much smaller and it's friendly. I think Yoongi told me about it once, you humans and your silly imagination."
The boy still remained frozen, scared to eat any more.
Jin sighed. He asked Jeongguk to bring in the royal dragon, who rolled his eyes but still complied. A few minutes later Jeongguk returned with the said dragon sitting on a pillow.
Taehyung finally swallowed watching the arrival of their royal pet.
"That's a chicken."
Jeongguk furrowed his brows. "It's a dragon."
"It's a chicken!"
"No," Jeongguk said firmly. "It's a dragon, and his name is Sir Lin."
"Bawck!" Sir Lin screamed.
"It's sounds like a chicken to me."
"It's a dragon!"
"Chicken!"
"Dragon!"
"What in the Elvador is going on here?" Yoongi yelled, walking in.
Jeongguk lifted up Sir Lin. "Tell the prince what this is."
Yoongi nodded. "So this is the confusion. It's a chicken–"
"Ha!" Taehyung yelled, childishly.
"–but," Yoongi continued. "Here, was call it a dragon."
"Ha!" It was now Jeongguk turn to scream. When he received weird looks from the others, he cleared his throat. "I mean, see, I told you."
Yoongi shook his head and walked over to Jeongguk to pick up Sir Lin in his hands. He began cooing at the thing, and it probably would've been the most adorable thing to Taehyung if it wasn't a fucking chicken.
"Okay then." Taehyung continued eating his meal, a little more comforted to know it came from an actual chicken. "So when are we going to Earth?"
Namjoon wipes his lips with his cloth before speaking. "Are you satisfied with your meal?"
"Yes, thank you very much."
"Then might as well leave now."
Namjoon led Jeongguk and Taehyung back to his chamber. Taehyung observed as the elf opened a large and vintage looking spell-book. He then went to the middle of the room and stretched out his hand. Eyes closed, Namjoon began chanting words Taehyung couldn't really make out, and suddenly, a black hole like portal appeared, just like the one from the forest the previous day.
"You'll have twenty-four hours."
"What happens if we don't get to the portal by then?" Taehyung questioned.
"Then I'd have to send Yoongi to find you now that we know your exact whereabouts, but opening and closing these portals are quite the hassle, so please try to make it in time."
Taehyung and Jeongguk nodded going to the edge of the portal. Jeongguk changed back into his Earth outfit in a flash. Taehyung squeezed his eye shut, waiting for the signal.
"Brandow Point, New York!" Jeongguk yelled.
"Wait, what? Why the forest ag–" before Taehyung could finish his sentence, Jeongguk grabbed his wrist and they both went falling in.
Taehyung once again clutched onto the younger the entire journey, until they felt themselves hit land. Taehyung was lying back first with Jeongguk on top of him, his arms secured tightly around the elf's waist.
"You can let go now," Jeongguk said, sounding as dead as ever.
Maybe it was because he was back in his homeland, but Taehyung started to feel a lot more like himself. He grinned. "I don't know, I quite like it like this."
"I'll freeze your arms, break them off and feed it to your so called chickens."
That certainly got the older to let go. They both got up and dusted off the dirt that might've gotten on their clothes and began the great walk to Taehyung's apartment.
•—•—•
After what felt like an eternity, they finally found themselves in front of Taehyung apartment. He retrieved his key and unlocked the door. As soon as he opened it, there was a panic looking Jimin on the phone. When their eyes met, he dropped the phone and ran to Taehyung, attacking him in a tight hug.
"You fucking idiot, oh my god you dick! Where'd you go? Are you alright? I was worried sick! You wouldn't answer the phone and the door was left open and I just didn't know what to do and oh my god never do that again you idiot," Jimin began rambling.
Taehyung laughed and hugged Jimin just as tightly back. "I'm sorry, but technically I got kidnapped so it's not my fault."
Jimin let go of Taehyung and opened his eyes. "Kidnapped?" He then finally noticed the figure behind Taehyung.
"Well, umm, this here is–"
"Jungkook..." Jimin said softly. The elf brought his attention to him when his name was heard. Jimin approached the blue-eyed male. He placed his small arms on his shoulder. "Look how you've grown, wow, you look exactly like Jaein. Do you remember me?"
Taehyung was now very confused. He was going to team up with Jimin and kick this guy out. His plan wasn't really going to work if his partner in crime is treating the guy like his long lost brother.
"I was pretty young and we didn't speak that often, forgive me if I don't remember much. Sir Namjoon spoke much of you though."
Jimin smiled. "Of course he did. How is he, my brother?"
"Good, he really misses you. He can't wait to see you."
"What the fuck?" Taehyung interrupt the two's reunion feeling very left out.
"Oh god, come inside. Taehyung, get our guest some macarons."
"But we don't have–"
"I was stress eating cause of you."
Taehyung nodded. Jimin splurges all his money on macarons whenever he gets stressed. Taehyung goes to their kitchen and sees boxes on top of boxes of the treat. He really went off this time.
When Taehyung returns with the tray of sweets, still confused as fuck, he overheard bits and pieces of their conversation. Something about the shield breaking, a golden rose, dark force. They were talking quietly, as if they didn't want Taehyung to hear. He set the tray down forcefully, getting the attention of the two.
"Okay, how do you know each other. He's literally from a different universe."
"So are you, and so am I. I see you now know everything," Jimin said, slowly. He got up from his seat and kneeled down on one knee. With his head bowed down, he said, "A pleasure to serve you, your majesty."
Taehyung stood wide-mouthed. "What in the... Jimin, who are you?"
Jimin got up and took in Taehyung hand in his, which Taehyung pulled away harshly. With a frown, Jimin sat back. "Sit down, there's a lot to hear."
Taehyung felt a knot form in his throat but decided to sit down. "Explain," he said, trying to remain calm.
"As you probably know, you come from a planet called Elvador. You're the prince of the Kingdom of Saphia, the strongest of all eight."
Taehyung nodded, although he didn't believe it entirely yet. Maybe he will now hearing from his best friend, or so he thinks they are best friends. He isn't sure anymore at this point.
"You're probably confused on how you and I came to Earth. Your parents, wonderful elves, had to make the difficult choice of having to send you down to this place. Your uncle, Zorock we called him, was a terrible man. His heart was pure coal, his power was evil. He wanted to rule Elvador, he isolated himself from the royal family. We didn't hear from him for years, until he came back with an army of evil spirits. He lived at the opposite end of the planet, where no else could, cold and alone. It was okay thought, but then he began his attack."
"Attack?" Taehyung questioned, getting slightly impatient.
"He started of by attacking the weaker kingdoms, but when we sent soldiers to help, Zorock knew he'd have to kick us off the board first. He came for Saphia, stronger than ever. He had some kind of secret dark magic, and your father knew the only way to stop him was with his life. He was especially scared after Zorock had killed the Queen right in front of him."
"My mom?"
Jimin nodded. "He sent you to Earth and ordered me to go with you. Before we left, he used his gift to form a protective shield using the golden rose to push back all the evil spirits around all eight kingdoms, and in the process, draining all the energy and life left in his body. If Zorock got his hands on you, he can both destroy the shield and all eight kingdoms, you hold such power. He's still out there, growing and waiting."
"So I came here with you when I was a child?"
"When you were seven. We gave you a potion to forget all your memory. Your parents here are elves too, they know who you are, and they know a day like this would come. They were exiled from Elvador after trying to steal important potions from the royal family. They aren't bad people, Marie just couldn't conceive a child. They thought royal potions would work."
Taehyung nodded slowly. There was just too much being dumped on him all at once. He grabbed two macarons and shoved it in his mouth, chewing quickly and trying to swallow it with all the new information. Then he realized something he didn't think of before.
"Wait but, that doesn't make sense. You're the same age as me! This is a joke right? I figured it out!" Taehyung yelled, a little too happy.
Jimin smiled awkwardly. He closed his eyes and in a few seconds, Jimin transformed into ten year old him, then what seemed to be him but a little older and with a beard, and finally back to his original state.
As gross as it was, macaron bits fell from Taehyung's open mouth, shocked at what he just saw.
"I'm immortal. I can transform to any ages from when I can remember to when I basically died, 27."
Jeongguk shivered. "I hate it when you brothers do that," he muttered, recalling to every time he's seen it when the topic of age came up in their little quarrels.
"So everything you told me that day, when I was seven, about us being friends for the longest time, is a lie?"
"I'm sorry..."
Taehyung nodded. "So my entire fucking life is a lie."
"Tae..."
He stared at the ground for a few seconds before looking up at Jimin. "Is it weird that I'm not as mad as I should be?"
"What?"
"I mean, I never felt that attached to mom or dad, kinda see why now, but I do still love them. And this life sucked ass to be honest. But now I'm a prince in another damn universe, life's gonna get pretty interesting man."
Jimin smiled while shaking his head. "So you're not angry?"
"Me? Mad at you?" Taehyung got up and hugged the other boy. "Never."
Jeongguk watched the two hug and laugh, finding it a little odd. He slowly reached for a macaron, he's never tried one, while doing his best avoid their attention and body. It was going to be a long day, so he better stock up on food.
