Chapter 6 E=MC Hammer

"You're late," Joe said, frowning at the two of us. "By a large amount."

"We know, thanks," I said, jogging up the stairs with Barry behind me.

I dropped into my chair, sending it and me into a stack of books. It wobbled dangerously and Barry shot over to catch it before it could fall on my head.

He gave me a reproachful look. "You're going to make a mess of the world."

I smiled up at him. "I ordered pizza."

"What does that have to do with anything?"

"Hey, I need to last until tonight without passing out. I understand if you don't want any-"

Barry sighed. "I never said that." He grinned. "What's tonight?"

   "A quiz party at Jitters!"

He started clearing off a pizza box sized section of his desk. "Did Iris say what the theme was?"

"No. Is there usually a theme?"

Barry hummed quietly. "Yes. I'll ask her." He took out his phone and started typing.

The door opened and I looked up from the Rubix cube I'd found under the desk. Joe walked into the room with Eddie behind him, who was carrying a large stack of pizzas. "Did you two order all the pizzas?"

"I did," I said, throwing the Rubix cube on the desk and getting up. "Four of them are for downstairs, the rest are for Barry and I."

"You two are going to eat all of these other ones?" Eddie asked, dropping the pizzas on Barry's desk.

"Probably," Barry said. "We snack a lot."

Eddie grinned at Barry. "Maybe you should get donuts next time."

"Ooooohhhh!" I said, sitting back down and spinning in my chair. "That is an excellent idea. Let me write that down. Barry! Paper please!"

Barry folded a paper airplane and threw it at me. "Would you mind leaving us in peace?"

"Sure thing man," Eddie said, he smiled one last time at the two of us and left with four of the pizzas.

Joe, on the other hand, stayed and looked from me to Barry. "What aren't you two telling me?" he asked as Barry handed me a plate of pizza.

I looked up in surprise and Barry frowned. "What do you mean?" he asked.

"You two have been later than normal the last few days and you are asking for more breaks. I think I deserve to know what's going on."

Barry and I exchanged looks. Barry nodded, indicating me, the better liar of the two of us, to make something up.

"We've been going to say hello to Iris," I said. "It's been a while since we were all in the same place. We've just been catching up."

"I see," Joe didn't really look convinced. "Well, I'll go before all the pizza's gone."

After Joe left I looked at Barry. "You think he's onto us yet?"

Barry frowned at the door. "I don't think so. It seems like he suspects something though."

I leaned back and pulled out my phone to text Cisco. Quiz night a Jitters want to come? I set my phone down face up on the table and started eating my pizza. "What time is our shift over?"

Barry snorted with laughter as he tried to keep from spewing pizza everywhere. I hooted, which I'm sure didn't help at all. Barry swallowed and instantly started coughing. His crooked grin didn't disappear when he straightened up. "In two hours."

I rolled my eyes. "What time is it though?"

Barry shrugged. "I don't know. I go by when the sun reaches the top of that building over there."

I looked out the window where he was pointing to see a short squat building with a surprisingly small number of other buildings behind it. "Oh. So you aren't going to look at the clock I saw in here yesterday?"

Barry scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah... the batteries on that thing have been dead for months."

I started laughing all over again. "You never bothered to change the batteries at all? Barry you are such a mastermind."

"Do I detect a little sarcasm?" he asked, feigning surprise. "Sister, I thought you had more dignity."

"One can be dignified and sarcastic at the same time," I said, sitting up very straight. "It just takes more skill than most others have."

Barry rolled his eyes playfully at me and took another piece of pizza. "Well forgive me, your highness." He gave me a mock bow.

   "I'll think about it."

This was too much for either of us and we broke down into gales of laughter.

My phone buzzed. I picked it up, still laughing, and looked at Cisco's response. YES. I'll bring Caitlin too. She won't admit it, but I think she has fun at those kinds of things. I grinned. "Cisco and Caitlin are coming to the quiz night too. Maybe we should be on the same team."

Barry looked up at me as I shot over and grabbed an entire pizza for myself before running back over to my chair. "Maybe? We definitely need to be! He'd probably kick our butts if we weren't."

"Good point." I demolished the pizza and looked over at the pile of boxes on Barry's desk. "Aw! You ate them all!"

Barry looked amused. "To the victor the spoils."

I frowned at him and looked out the window. The sun was about half way down the window. Nowhere near the stubby building Barry had pointed out. I sighed. It was going to be a long hour and a half.

"Barry! Skye!" Cisco waved furiously from a table near a dart board that had been hung on a wall.

Caitlin was sitting next to Cisco with a small smile at his excitement, Iris was working her way over to their table with some difficulty, and I could see Eddie right behind her. Barry huffed quietly when he noticed, but didn't say anything.

I waved back at Cisco and started pushing my way through the crowd. Barry walked behind me saying, "Excuse me. Sorry."

I was already tired of pushing through the crowd so, with a mischievous look at Barry, I held my arms up in the air and shouted, "PARDON ME PEOPLE BUT COULD YOU GET OUT OF MY WAY?! MUCH APPRECIATED!"

People laughed and cleared a path for us all the way to our table. I sat down next to Cisco and grinned. "Hi."

Cisco high-fived me. "That was awesome! You also aren't late. A fact that I find amazing."

"I know. I was really expecting to be late. That's why we left early," Barry said. "What's our team name?"

Cisco shook his head. "We haven't decided yet, but we made a list of possibilities." He pushed a napkin with a bunch of names scribbled on it over to Barry and I.

I looked down at the list. There were many choices. It seemed that Cisco and Caitlin had thought of everything. The name that caught my eye first was because it had several capital letters.

"I really like E=MC Hammer," I said. "How about we do that one?"

Barry grinned. "Can't touch this. I like it too."

Cisco nodded and typed the name into the computer sitting in the center of the table. "It's us against one other team. Everyone else just came to watch."

"Who's the other team?" Barry asked.

Caitlin nodded to the table to my right. "They're right there. They call themselves Captain Winter."

The three people at the table were laughing. One of them was a red headed woman with a black leather coat, black shirt, and dark blue jeans. There were two men, the one facing us had long brown hair, brown eyes, and wore a long sleeved gray shirt and sweatpants. The one with his back to us had blonde hair and was wearing a denim jacket with a large silver star between his shoulder blades.

Iris looked over Cisco's shoulder. "You need to enter the names of the people on your team." She walked away again and sat down with Eddie at a table in a corner.

"Oh," Cisco started typing as fast as he could, entering all of our names in alphabetical order.

   I laughed. "Feeling organized Cisco?"

"Not really." He started clicking around the screen, opening the other team's profile. "Our opponents are Natasha, Steve, and Buck. Why does that sound familiar?"

I grinned. "You probably heard from me." I looked back over at the table and tried to figure out how I hadn't recognized them immediately. "Let's just say I gave them a little tech help a while back."

Buck met my eyes and a sudden recognition flashed across his face. He grinned and said something to the other two. Steve turned in his chair and smiled, standing up and coming over. "Long time no see, Skye."

"Hello to you too, Steeeevvveee," I said with a smirk.

He rolled his eyes. "Why do you always say my name like the monkey from that movie?"

I grinned. "You finally watched that? Good for you!"

Cisco cleared his throat. "Skye. How do you know them? And who are they exactly? And what did you help them with?"

Buck and Natasha had come over by now to say hello, but both laughed quietly at Cisco's comment.

I had to stifle my own laughter. "Cisco, Caitlin, Barry, this is Steve, Bucky, and Natasha. I helped them hack a computer system a while ago when I stopped by DC."

Buck tipped his head at me. Clearly wanting to tell me something.

I got up. "Excuse me." I pushed by Steve and faced Buck. "What is it?"

A flicker of amusement showed in his eyes. "You wouldn't know anything about the Flash or the Spark would you?"

I narrowed my eyes at him. "Why do you ask?"

Buck smirked. "No reason. Just wondering."

I tried to keep a straight face, but felt a grin spread across my face anyway. "I do," I said quietly.

   "You and Barry?"

I punched his arm playfully. "Don't be ridiculous!"

From the way he gave me an amused smile I could tell I hadn't fooled him at all. "Alright then."

"Quiz teams! Get ready!" a voice over the speakers called.

I darted back to our table and sat down. "Good luck," I told Steve. "But we're going to beat you at this."

"Is that a challenge?" Steve asked.

   "It is."

"Challenge accepted." Steve turned and walked back over to his table, sitting down with his team.

As the voice in the speaker announced the teams I turned to Cisco. "Figured out who they are yet?"

Cisco shook his head but turned his attention to the computer when the voice in the speaker said, "And tonight's category is.... Star Wars!"

The whole of E=MC Hammer whooped. We had to be the biggest Star Wars fans to ever walk this planet. Captain Winter groaned. I grinned at them. "I'll say 'I told you so' later!"
