Chapter 25 How Many Things Can We Screw Up?

Excuse the swearing in the picture. I just thought it was amusing. XD

Also (I think you'll all find this funny) I just looked up "Tony" and "Stark" on dictionary.com. Here's what I found, "Tony" means "high-toned or stylish". That was my first guffaw moment. Here's part two, "Stark" means "bluntly stern or plain, not softened or glamorized". XD It's official, Tony Stark is "stylish, high-toned (whatever the heck that means), and blunt as a club". I'm laughing so hard right now.

I have one question. Just one. WHY THE HECK ARE DAYS AT S.T.A.R. LABS SO FREAKING BORING?! Even with Buck and Cisco there all day, and R2-D2 being his annoying, robotic self, I was itching to get running.

I couldn't stop thinking about the little girl in the garage all day. I really needed to fix the security system... maybe tomorrow... if Blackout hasn't killed us by then.

Barry had stormed into the Cortex late in the afternoon with Caitlin and Dr. Wells, both of whom had been alerted by Cisco.

I had so many tabs open on my computer it was started to get bogged down.

"What are you doing?" Barry asked, looking over my shoulder.

"Don't tell Cisco," I whispered. "Or Wells or Caitlin. I'm multi-slacking."

He snickered, his angry mood lightened for a second. "That word is great, but what does it mean?"

"It means I'm trying really hard to look busy, but really not doing anything."

Barry grinned and leaned his bag against my desk. He walked over and looked over Cisco's shoulder.

"How long before Blackout shows up do you think?" Buck asked.

"Can't be long," I said. "I'm almost looking forward to it. Today was long and boring."

"Skye," Caitlin said in an exasperated tone. "You just had to say that didn't you?"

"Uh oh. I want to take it back."

Cisco turned up the volume on his computer. Caitlin looked worried and Cisco looked a little nervous. Dr. Wells was perfectly calm.

"Wells!" a voice shouted through the speakers. Cisco winced and turned the volume down a bit. "Come out here! I have a present!"

"Why do I get the feeling that a 'present' from this guys is a bad thing?" I asked.

The power flickered, instantly shutting off all of the computers. The lights came back on for a second, but died again for good.

"Oh yeah," I said quietly. "Because reasons..."

Buck put his metal hand on my shoulder. "I think it would be best for me to sit this one out. A metal arm wouldn't be a good weapon against electricity. Even if it is part vibranium."

The backup power came online and the computers rebooted. "Oh and there's a problem at the police station. How inconvenient is that?" Cisco asked. "This is great. Blackout comes to our doorstep and suddenly the whole police force is in danger."

"I'll get it," Buck said. "I can't stay here and you need a backup speedster in case something happens."

Barry's eyes widened. "Oh no. Iris!"

"I'll protect them," Buck promised. "I should go before the exits are blocked off."

He walked quickly to the door and checked both directions before he continued out.

"Okay. We should come up with a plan. Is there any way Barry can get his speed back?" I asked. I got to my feet and slapped my bracelets together.

The armor unrolled much faster than the first time I'd used it. I made special note of the fact and reminded myself to thank Tony later.

"Hey. Yeah I heard your question," Tony's voice said in my ear, making me jump. "If you could replicate the lightning with something it might work. Almost certainly. If you fail he'd get electrocuted but hey! If you-"

"Thank you Tony," I interrupted. "I don't want to know the consequences."

Dr. Wells cleared his throat. "First of all, where did you get the technology? And second of all, why are you thanking Tony if it's the one I'm thinking of?"

"If you're thinking of Tony Stark that answers the first question. I was thanking him because he said that if we could replicate the lightning with something it might restore Barry's speed."

Everyone fell silent. The only sound was the constant hum of the computers and lights.

In my ear, Tony cleared his throat. "I'm hearing a distinct lack of speech. Considering your current situation, I don't think that's good."

I made no response, wishing I could punch him in his perfect teeth.

Barry's face changed from nervous to determined. "Let's do it. What do we have to lose right?"

I made several references to CACW. *smirks* I'll bet nobody noticed. Well lucky for you, I'm in a good mood and will tell you exactly where they are.

1. "Oh. I want to take it back." was said by Natasha in response to Tony saying "I'm sorry, I'm not sure I heard correctly. Did you just AGREE with me?"

2. Punch him in his perfect teeth. Tony said this to Steve. The word for word was "Sometimes I wish I could punch you in your perfect teeth."

(Yes Taalina I did quote Iron Man. You can stop cheering now.)

If you have ANY characters you want me to add, let me know.
