Chapter 17 Merry(?) Christmas Skye
Is this GIF Everyman? Or he Barry really where I think he is? (Please tell me it's Everyman even though he's dead)
_____________
Barry came back late in the day looking very grim. It got Caitlin, Dr. Wells, and Cisco's attention instantly. He even got Cisco to stop slurping his soda. Shayera and I took a little longer because we were focused on the gadgets Cisco had somehow managed to destroy when we weren't looking.
"Why the long face Barry?" Dr. Wells asked, turning his wheelchair away from the desk to face Barry.
Barry sighed and looked at me. "There's two of them."
I looked up. "Two of who? Or what? What did I miss?"
"Two... 'Poisoned Ivy's. The amount of destruction couldn't have been caused by one person. No matter how powerful they were." He ran a hand through his hair and started pacing. "There was nothing that could be traced and there was only one dead person. Why go to the bother of destroying an entire building to kill one person?!"
"Barry," Dr. Wells said. "We don't know anything about these people or what their motives are. What makes no sense to us might make perfect sense to them."
"Who is them?"
I groaned inwardly. "Hello Iris. Fancy seeing you here."
Shayera quickly zipped up her backpack, hiding the mechanics inside that activated the wings. She casually slid it under the desk as Iris walked into The Cortex.
I realized with a horrified jolt that mine and Barry's suits were clearly visible. Iris didn't seem to have noticed. I went with the first thing that came to mind, seeing as Caitlin had also noticed and was working furiously to get the space to close. "Cisco! Getaway robot!" I pointed at the door.
Cisco, Barry, Dr. Wells, and, thankfully, Iris turned to look. Cisco must have realized why I'd said it because he got up quickly, even though there was obviously no robot, and said, "Not again! That's the fourth time this week!" and ran out the door in the direction of the nonexistent robot, abandoning his soda on the desk.
Iris frowned, but must have been convinced that there was actually a robot. I relaxed when I saw that the space with the suits had closed securely.
Dr. Wells smiled kindly at Iris. "To what do we owe this visit Miss West?"
Iris turned back to us and looked between everyone. "The Spark gave me a visit last night. She said she knew Skye and that she worked here."
I developed a sudden interest in Cisco's high-power black light that I was fixing. "Is it possible that there are other people named Skye in New York?" I asked innocently. "Though it is possible that this person is keeping the fact that they are The Spark secret."
"She told me she worked here," Iris repeated. She looked at Shayera. "Is it you?"
Shayera shook her head regretfully. "I'm not, but I wish I was."
Caitlin shook her head when Iris looked at her. Iris started to look irritated. "Do any of you know who it could possibly be?"
Cisco came in at that exact moment. He grinned. "I got the robot!" He held up a hastily built robot. "It's one of my quickly built ones," he added unnecessarily.
I resisted the urge to start laughing. "I sort of guessed."
"Well," Iris said, looking put out. "If any of you find out who The Spark and The Flash are please let me know."
"We will," Caitlin promised. "I'm sure that whoever they are, they're likely to slip up at some point and use their speed in everyday life."
"They already have," Iris said, stopping in the doorway. "This morning at Jitters people said they were standing in line waiting and then everyone was holding a cup of coffee." She turned and left without another word.
After Caitlin double checked that Iris really was gone she glared at Barry. "Skye was here this morning so I'm going to assume that was you."
Barry smiled sheepishly. "Maybe?"
Cisco grinned at me. "That was pretty smart, with the robot thing. I didn't even think about the suits."
I smiled and looked at Barry. "So you didn't get anything from the crime scene? Nothing at all?"
Barry shook his head. "The only thing we got was evidence that the victim was kissed."
Cisco choked on his soda, Caitlin looked up in surprise, Shayera raised an eyebrow, and Dr. Wells looked thoughtful.
"Kissed?" I asked. Cisco wheezed and I frowned at him. "You good buddy?"
Cisco nodded and coughed. "I'm... good."
Shayera laughed. "You really shouldn't inhale things Cisco."
"That does it," I announced, making everyone look at me as I got to my feet. "This Deadly Duo is being a major pain in the rear. I'm going out there with a flamethrower and I'm going to bring them back to the pipeline." I glanced at Cisco. "I'm fairly sure that's where you said the meta-humans would go?"
Cisco nodded. "It is. It seems that two of them are going to become jungles?"
I looked over at my suit and grinned. "Yes they are."
"Where did you say?" Shayera's voice crackled in my earpiece. She was flying somewhere above the city. We had all split up to search the city faster.
"The rooftop of four twenty-second on Main," Cisco said. "Move fast, they're going after someone."
I snorted. "You're telling the three people who can go faster than anyone else to move fast. That seems a little backwards. Shouldn't we be telling you to move fast?"
"Shut up and focus," Cisco said, but I could tell he was amused. "You're one to talk. You're literally right there. Aaaaaannnnd you passed it."
"Cisco Ramon!"
Cisco laughed as I turned around and shot up the side of four twenty-two. I landed lightly on the roof to see three people there. One was a woman who was walking toward a familiar looking man in a black leather jacket and black pants with an unnecessary amount of hip swaying, one was the man in the black leather jacket, and the last was the crazy guy who had first gotten the name Poisoned Ivy.
Barry landed on the roof next to me and gave me a small smile before turning to where the action was happening.
The two Ivy's turned to look at us. The woman seriously needed more fabric on her clothes.
Barry stepped forward like he was in a trance. I punched him in the shoulder, hard. He blinked and looked at me. He looked scared. "Sorry. I need you to be my eyes." He closed his eyes.
I hesitated. "Alright Bear. Walk around the edge, that should help you know where you can't go. Or just look at the guys, no harm in that right?"
Barry opened his eyes and kept them locked on the man. "That is a much better idea."
I felt a vine start coming up my leg. I pulled out Cisco's flamethrower and blasted the vine. It burst into flames and fell to the ground, blackened and mostly ash. I pointed the flamethrower at the Deadly Duo. "Would you like some fire?"
There was an angry screech and Shayera dove from the sky. She held a wooden board in each hand, which didn't strike me as a good idea. She swung them at the Ivy's. They sprouted vines, which streamed back and wrapped around her right wing, bending it down.
Shayera yelped in surprise and tried to spread her shimmering wings to their full length. I ran forward and caught her, setting her on her feet. I sliced through the vines with a knife from her belt. I looked at her. "Are you good? Wings still working?"
Shayera nodded. "Fully functional." She didn't meet my eyes.
I frowned and handed her knife back. "You sure?"
"Yes. I'm sure."
A vine snapped my left wrist and the flamethrower flew out of my grip. I winced and jumped away from the vine, only to trip over more vines. Within seconds, before I could respond, I was completely immobilized by the vines.
There was a loud clang. I turned my head and saw a very familiar silver arm glint in the faint light from below. I smiled in spite of myself. I was not in the least bit surprised to see Buck himself, even if he was completely unaffected by Lady Poisoned Ivy. The thing that surprised me was that Steve was nowhere to be seen.
Buck's metal arm glinted as he punched the side of her head. Lady Ivy collapsed at Buck's feet. He ran over to me the instant she stopped moving. "Are you alright?" he asked as he cut away the vines holding me down.
"I'm fine Buck," I laughed. My laughter vanished when I saw Sir Ivy shove Shayera off the building.
"NO!" Barry shouted. "YOU EVIL HUMAN! HER WINGS WERE BROKEN!"
"I know!" Sir Ivy's gleeful voice responded. "That's why I pushed her off!"
Bucky pulled me to my feet quickly. "I suppose now wouldn't be a good time to say Merry Christmas Skye?"
"Terrible time," I growled. I ran forward and punched Sir Ivy. Green lightning flashed around my arm, making me certain he was out cold.
A pair of brown and black wings and a person landed next to me. "Turns out I didn't need a backpack," Shayera said with a grin. "I've got my own non-mechanical wings."
Relief filled me. "Thank goodness. I don't suppose you want to carry these two people to S.T.A.R. Labs?"
"I can carry one," Shayera said. "Definitely not both of them though."
I looked over at my brother. "Barry?"
Barry sighed dramatically. "I suppose. As a Christmas present for my sister."
"That is a terrible present."
Barry picked up Sir Ivy and shot away. Shayera smiled and picked up Lady Ivy. Her brown and black wings were even more majestic than her gold ones had been.
I tilted my head at Buck. "You need a lift?"
Buck shifted uncomfortably. "I wish I could stay, but I promised Steve I'd be back by morning and seeing as it's several hours for us non-speedy types..."
"You need to leave now. I understand."
Buck pulled something out of his pocket and handed it to me. "I think you'll find that useful," he said quietly. "Merry Christmas."
I took the present and smiled up at him. "Thank you Buck. Merry Christmas to you too. Wish Steve one for me."
Buck hesitated then nodded. "Alright. I'll... I'll see you later."
"Good-bye Bucky." I paused a moment, not sure what I was waiting for, before I turned and ran toward S.T.A.R. Labs.
I burst through the door to find Barry sitting on the edge of the hospital bed and Cisco looking carefully at Shayera's wings. "These are amazing!" he said, running a hand over the edge.
"They're weird," Caitlin objected. "People shouldn't have wings."
I walked over to his side, ignoring Caitlin's comment. "They look like giant eagle wings."
"Hawk wings," Cisco corrected. "Her name is Hawk Girl now."
"Is it now?" an unfamiliar voice asked behind us.
Everyone turned to face the door. A man stood there. He wore a mask like Shayera's and had large black wings folded neatly against his back. "That's interesting," he said, walking calmly into The Cortex. "Because that's who I'm looking for. If you really are Hawk Girl, you are in great danger."
"Oh really?" I asked sarcastically. "We really hadn't noticed. What with the people who can control plants. It's not like that's safe or anything."
He shot me an annoyed look. "Danger from other things than your super-villains."
"I don't know about that," Barry said. "How can anything be more dangerous than a super-villain? A villain without superpowers wouldn't last long against any of us."
The man glared at Barry. "Notice I said your super-villains. As far as I know all of them can die."
"Probably," Cisco said. "They could 'probably' die. We haven't tested that yet unless you count Clyde Martyn. That was something of an accident though..."
"Who are you exactly?" Shayera snapped, reaching behind her. "And why were you looking for me?"
I wasn't totally sure what she was reaching for. As far as I knew, there wasn't anything on the table behind her, but I couldn't see around her so there was nothing to base that on.
"I am Hawkman," the man said. "I came looking for you in hopes that I would find you before Vandel Savage does. It seems I was successful in that at least if nothing else."
The room fell silent. Until I cleared my throat. "And who exactly is he?"
"He's our mortal enemy, and he can't die."
"Wonderful," I muttered. "Lucky you. You get an enemy that can't die. Just great. I am very glad I'm not you."

Hope you all enjoyed the chapter. Two Poisoned Ivys! The next chapter will have Hawk Girl and Hawkman leaving to go "hunting" and either The Mist or Electrocuter (I don't remember exactly what Cisco's name for him is), also they might catch Rainbow Rager soon. :) For those of you who don't know, that is the actual name of Madman (as I've been calling him).
Q&A
No questions yet, but I'm happy to answer any that you have.
The song almost describes Oliver Queen/Green Arrow especially the 'Livin' like a washed up celebrity'. Except that he doesn't really party much. He is victorious a large amount of the time though.
If you have any characters you want me to add, let me know. If you're still reading through all of my 'rule breaking' I salute you.
May the wind blow strong in your sails and... have a good day Avengers! :D :D
