Chapter 16 Wing Thief

I'm making up a meta-human. Because a Hawk is coming. Please don't kill me. :)

Video contains spoilers from idk when.

I'd hoped that I would have a nice relaxing Christmas. It had been very quiet the last couple of months so I thought we'd gotten the last of the meta-humans.

   Boy was I wrong.

Buzz buzz. Cisco: Skye. I really hope you aren't sleeping like Barry is.

I rolled out of bed. Me: Not anymore. Why?

   Buzz buzz. Cisco: HURRY UP.

I threw on my jeans and grabbed a sweatshirt. Pulling it over my head as I started for the door. I shot out my door and flew down the stairs, bursting outside and starting for S.T.A.R. Labs.

I slid into the Cortex as my phone buzzed again. Cisco: Don't run.

   "Too late," I said.

A tall woman stood in the center of the room a familiar black backpack slung over one shoulder. I narrowed my eyes at her. "What is it with people always standing in the middle of the room?"

The woman ignored my question. "I need your help."

"Again. Why does everyone come here for help? Cisco, you're staring."

Cisco quickly averted his gaze to his computer. "Your suit's in its usual place," he said. "And Barry still isn't awake!"

"It is two in the morning," the woman pointed out. She turned to me as I took my suit off of its mannequin. "I need you to help me catch someone who can grow plants very quickly."

I draped my suit over my left arm. "Tell me who you are and you've got a deal."

   "Shayera."

I changed into my suit and nodded. "After you."

Shayera led me outside at a painstakingly slow pace. Once we were away from all of the security cameras she stopped and pulled out a card and tapped the edge. It expanded into a helmet, shaped like a hawk's head, which she placed on her head. She then pulled a string on the backpack and it stretched into a pair of shimmering golden wings.

"Those are the wings Cisco made!" I exclaimed.

Shayera nodded. "I made a few adjustments so I could use them better. I hope you can keep up."

I snorted. "Of course I can."

Shayera leaped into the air, wings glittering in the moonlight as she started flying away. I grinned and ran underneath her. She led me outside the city, swooping down next to me once we were a ways away. I was surprised at how fast she was and how comfortable she looked in the air.

She flapped once and landed lightly in front of a barn covered in green ivy despite the thin layer of snow that covered the ground. "Here we are. Be careful."

"I'm always careful," I murmured following her into the barn.

It was like a forest from a horror movie. Vines and moss hung from the ceiling in thick clumps. Shayera's wings folded against her back.

"Who's there?!" a voice called. "If you're coming to kill me you'd better leave!"

I cast a sidelong look at Shayera. She ignored me.

"Are you two good?" Cisco asked.

"Just great," I said. Shayera glared at me and I lowered my voice. "Shayera's glaring at me and a crazy person is threatening us."

I heard Cisco yawn. "Just another day in the life of a superhero then?"

"Pretty m- OW!" I looked down and saw a thorny vine wrapping around my leg. I pulled free and shot out of range.

Shayera was struggling against some ivy that had wrapped around her midsection. I really need a knife, I thought. I ran forward and tried to pull the vines away but the wrapped around my hands faster than I could pull away.

A crazed sort of laugh came from in front of Shayera so I couldn't see who it was. "I've caught them! This is wonderful!"

"Gizmo," I muttered. "Please do anything in your power to wake Barry up. We need the other Supersonic Speedster."

"I hope you meant 'power' as a joke," Cisco responded. "But I'll do my best."

"I didn't think about that. Just do it. Also, tell him to grab a knife."

The vines were now all the way up to my shoulders. I vibrated my arms in hopes of shaking the vines free, but they only got tighter. I shivered as the vines started wrapping around my neck and going down my back.

"The Hawk and the Spark," the same crazy voice cackled. "I wonder if I'll catch the Flash as well?"

There was an boom off in the distance. Please be Barry, please be Barry. Shayera jumped at the sound. "This didn't work out well," she whispered to me.

"Oh really?" I hissed back. "I hadn't noticed at all."

Gold light filled the room and the vines around me and Shayera snapped.

It took me a second, even with my speed, to realize that Barry was pulling me along with one hand and Shayera with the other. I got my feet under me and matched his steps. He let go of me and focused on keeping hold of Shayera, who was struggling against him.

I didn't realize we'd reached S.T.A.R. Labs until I almost crashed into the wall. "Ooohhh my gosh!" I put a foot out in front of me and bent my knee to prevent a collision. "Surprise!"

Barry smiled. "You need to watch where you're running."

"That's your job. I just follow you."

Shayera's wings folded back into being a backpack. "Two speedsters? I thought there was only one."

"You're welcome for the surprise," Barry said. "Cisco, you're staring."

Cisco turned bright red and looked down. I grinned at him. "I said the exact same thing just before we left."

Cisco looked back up at me and frowned. "What did you do to my suit?"

I looked down at my arms. I couldn't believe I hadn't noticed. The sleeves were ripped everywhere the vines hand touched them, the skin underneath was dark red and bleeding in places. I looked over at Shayera. She didn't have a scratch. "How on earth..." I blinked in surprise.

"The vines must have sliced through it," Barry said.

Cisco gasped. "Poisoned Ivy! Don't mind me."

"But it doesn't hurt at all," I said. "And Shayera isn't affected by it. Also, that's not bad Cisco."

Cisco leaned his forehead against his hands. "We chose a really bad time to do this."

"You mean you chose a really bad time. Come on Cisco, don't blame us."

Shayera paced back and forth. "We all need rest. I'm sorry. This should have waited."

"First. I'm going to see if Iris is sleeping and if she is I'm going to wake her up by staring. See you later!" I said, running out the door.

   "Wait!" Barry called.

I skidded to a stop and ran back. "Yes?"

Cisco got up. "I'll be right back. Iris would freak out if she saw you like that."

Cisco left without another word. I sighed and leaned against a wall. Barry changed into street clothes and ran off, looking exhausted. Shayera took off her backpack and placed it on a table. She reached up and took off her mask as well, folding it back down into a card.

"Found it!" Cisco said, entering the Cortex again. He was holding a black suit identical to the one I was wearing, without the rips.

"Thanks," I took the suit and changed into it before running out the door.

I stopped when I got to Joe's house and opened the door quietly. I was thankful for the carpet just inside the door. Iris's computer sat on the coffee table and Iris herself was dozing on the couch.

I walked silently down the two steps to the living room and looked down at Iris with a smile. I picked up her computer and looked at the screen. She was part way through writing another article on Barry and I. I hadn't really looked at her blog before today. She was writing about how Spark and Flash had saved her from our school bully who could turn into metal. That had been months ago. Readers wouldn't know that though.

"Spark?" Iris whispered. "What are you doing here?"

I jumped, almost dropping the computer. I carefully set it down before I could. "I just wanted to say hello. And... ask you something."

Iris frowned. "Sure. What do you need?"

I picked her up and carried her out into the garden behind the house. I put her down and made sure I wasn't facing the lights. "How's Barry?" I knew how he was of course, but I wanted to make sure she didn't know that.

"He's fine," Iris looked confused. "You said you knew Skye though. How could you not know Barry?"

I'd forgotten about that. I mentally cursed myself for being a forgetful idiot. "She said... she got a job at S.T.A.R. Labs and..." I trailed off. Where am I going with this? I was pretty sure I'd just busted myself.

"Barry's been spending a lot of time there. Does Barry know you and the Flash?"

"I don't know if Barry does or not. I wouldn't push him though." I was pretty sure I was just making matters worse for myself. So I changed the subject. "Have you heard of the Hawk?"

Iris frowned at me. "Yes. She recently came to the city. She's been stopping thieves and such."

"One moment," I touched my earpiece. "Gizmo, you hearing this?"

"Yes I am. How did we not know about a person with giant golden wings?!" Cisco asked.

"I was just going to ask you the same question so I think it's safe to say that neither of us know. Ask Barr- Flash. See if he knew about her."

"You almost said Barry," Cisco warned. "Don't screw up too badly."

   "I will not try."

"Skye said one of her friends' nicknames was Gizmo shortly after she got out of the coma. Do you work at S.T.A.R.?" Iris asked.

   I grimaced. "You're so smart it's scary."

   "Does that mean yes?"

"Gizmo," I hissed. "I screwed up."

"Skye!" Cisco said accusingly. "Just say yes. She'll be showing up and we can pretend to not know what she's talking about."

I sighed loudly. "Yes. I should really be going. I've had a long night. See you."

I ran through the house and out the front door, going straight to my apartment without stopping and putting my pajamas over my suit. I flopped in bed and finally got the sleep I'd wanted.

"YOU'RE LATE!" an automated voice shouted.

I yelped and jumped out of bed. The clock on my bedside table was vibrating and screaming, 'YOU'RE LATE' every two seconds. I grabbed my phone. CISCO OFF SWITCH PLEASE?

After a minute of waiting without a response I grabbed my clock and smashed it. The voice stopped immediately. Cisco would be very sorry.

I took off my pajamas and changed out of my suit. It felt good to have the skintight leather off after wearing it for so long. My shirt now read, 'Every day is a new ADVENTURE'. I walked quickly out my door and almost crashed into someone. I looked up in surprise. "Excuse me."

"Don't bother," Shayera said, the black backpack was slung over one shoulder. "You're in a hurry."

"Yes. I want to mess with Cisco's computer. He messed with my clock."

Shayera smiled. "That does sound like Cisco. Hey, could you... maybe... stay at S.T.A.R. Labs for lunch?"

"Of course," I said automatically. "Why?"

Shayera turned red. "Cisco's taking me someplace..."

I grinned. "That makes me all the more complaint. You joined the team then?" I started walking and Shayera walked next to me.

"Yes I have. Cisco taught me some tricks with some of his spare gadgets so I'll be helping on the tech side." Shayera adjusted her backpack.

"And with some of the extra things?" I smirked at her.

   "Most likely."

"How much longer were you two up last night?"

   "Until four."

I slapped my forehead. "Cisco's going to be really terrible today."

"No he isn't!" Shayera opened the door for me and we stepped into a light snowfall. "He actually wasn't bad!"

I smiled. "If you say so."

We walked in silence the rest of the way to S.T.A.R. Labs. I wondered briefly where Barry was as we entered, then remembered that he didn't work here.

Cisco swiveled around, a sucker sticking out of his mouth, as usual. "Hello Skye!"

I glared at him. "Hello Cisco."

Cisco grinned. "Having a good morning?"

I blew a raspberry at him and sat down at my computer, focused on messing up his settings. I hacked into his computer with relative ease as he worked on some tech gadget with Shayera.

I clicked into his settings and programmed in a new one called 'Sound on Click'. With a smirk I enabled it and chose the sound that blasted loudest in my headphones. I winced as the electric squeal erupted in my ears.

"Here I need to pull up something quick," Cisco said, starting toward his computer.

Oh shoot. Shootshootshoot. I closed out everything and made my computer return to itself just as Cisco sat down. I grinned as Cisco clicked on something and a loud screech blasted through the air. Cisco yelped in surprise and pushed away from the desk. I exploded with laughter.

"Skye. I swear. If Felicity teaches you one more hacking trick I will kill her," Cisco growled.

"No you won't," I said. "She's on team Arrow and by extension team Flash."

   "Team Flarrow!" Shayera exclaimed.

I looked at her in surprise. "That is a lot better than anything Cisco could have ever come up with."

Shayera grinned and gave me a small mock bow. "You're welcome."

Cisco looked up from his computer with was now screeching like crazy as he tried to undo my damage. "I make the nicknames!"

"Too bad," I said. "Need me to fix that?"

   "Yes please. Thanks."

I opened everything back up again and set to work undoing everything... and adding a little more.

Hey everyone! I know I said I would update Gangleaders today, but I just didn't have the inspiration for it. Tell me how I did with Shayera. I know nothing about her at all except for what I read on DC's website. (It really didn't tell me much about her personality)

What do you guys think of me writing a Bucky fanfic? It would be a "love" story because I'm a nerd that doesn't think about these things and has never written one before. I know it would make all updates slower, but my muse won't shut up. *glares at muse accusingly* This is YOUR FAULT!

If you have ANY characters you want me to add, let me know. BUT if you want an AC character please don't do one of the past assassins. Leaving you with Des, Lucy, Rebecca, and Shaun.

I know I'm doing these all out of order. I also know that Marvel and DC don't mix, as Taalina has told me many times. AND I know that I shouldn't add more universes. I'm sorry that I'm not listening to you (maybe not really) and please don't be mad at me (though if you really want to I won't stop you) but I'm leaning toward my rebel side so :J (that's the closest thing to a smirk I can get).

If you have any questions let me know.

May the wind blow strong in your sails and the Flash not burn you with lightning. :)
