Season 1, Episode 14:  Hell-O

So here's what's happened on Glee:

Will took over the Glee Club, and at first they were terrible (Rachel: we suck), but then they got kind of good.

Quinn got pregnant and said it was Finn's, but really it was Puck's (Finn: I'm done with you).

And Will's wife Terri said she was pregnant, but she was just scared that Will liked Emma (Will: I just left my wife). And then they kissed.

(Rachel: I want you to be happy, Finn) Rachel loves that she and Finn are the glee club's new power couple, but he seems a little weird about it.

Also Kurt and Violet have crushes on each other and are now living together since Violet got disowned by her parents. (Violet:  I no longer consider myself to be your sister)

And Sue tried to throw sectionals but they won anyway, which is pretty exciting (Sue: This is a travesty of international proportions).

And that's what you missed on Glee!

Everyone's come back from winter break. Rachel is walking down school hallway between classes. Mercedes joins her.

"Hey, babe, looking good!" Mercedes says with a smile.

Rachel smiles back. "I'm feeling good, Mercedes."

Mercedes chuckles. "This is amazing. Ever since Glee Club won sectionals, everybody looks at us differently."

Kurt joins them while walking to class. He just walked Violet to English.

"We're glitterati. I feel like Lady Gaga." Kurt says happily.

Rachel has a bright smile and an even better attitude. "Get used to it, guys, we're stars now, on par with all the jocks and popular kids; oh it's the dawn of a new era here at McKinley, and we are going to rule this school!"

Karofsky, Azimio, and some other guy round a corner and slushee Rachel, Kurt and Mercedes.

Karofsky smirks. "Ooh, welcome to Losertown!"

"Population you!" Azimio says.

In the choir room, Will drawing stick figure on whiteboard with speech bubble that says "HELLO."

Will points at the drawing. "Hello." He says. The New Directions look confused. "Helloooo?" He asks.

New Directions mumble hellos, but Rachel's is the loudest.

"What do you guys say when you answer the phone?" Will asks.

"What up?" Mercedes says.

Artie smiles. "Who dis be?"

"No, she's dead, this is her son." Kurt deadpans. The entire good mood is gone.

"O-kay. Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone, liked to say, "ahoy, ahoy" when he answered the phone. It was Edison who decided that "hello" was a more appropriate greeting." He says. Everyone stares. "Look. I am really proud of what you guys did at sectionals. But, as most of you have realized by now, it hasn't made a bit of difference in your day-to-day at school."

Rachel smiles proudly. "I have a slushee-stained training bra to prove it."

"News flash:  no one cares." Violet snaps. Rachel glares at her briefly.

Will continues. "Fact is, we're going to have to be better, even more spectacular at regionals. It's time for some reinvention, some new, New Directions. We need a new ... hello. Here's your assignment for the week: Come up with a fresh number, but it has to have "hello" in the song title. Alright?"

Rachel smiles broadly at Finn, who smiles nervously back.

Violet and Kurt smile at each other, thinking among the same lines.

The bell rings.

Finn sings "Hello, I Love You."

At the end of the song, everyone cheers for Finn.

Rachel stands up. "And that, fellow glee clubbers, is how we say 'hello.'"

Will smiles and Rachel walks toward him. "Mr. Schuster, I'd like to run some of my hello ideas by you."

Kurt sees Violet's glaring at the back of Rachel's head. He tugs on the sleeve of her long-sleeved Cheerios uniform. "C'mon. Let's work on our glee assignment." He says.

Violet has never wanted to work on an assignment as much as she did right now.

Finn's talking with Brittany and Santana the next day. Apparently, he took them both on a date to Breadstix. "Well, obviously Hawaiian pizza is the best because it's got ham AND pineapple on it, right?" He asks.

Brittany and Santa nod. "Mmhmm, oh god, both, it's so good." They agree.

Finn smiles. "So it's better than most pizzas." He concludes.

Will enters. "Alright, guys, we gotta get moving on those "hello" numbers. Who has got something to show us? Volunteers?" He asks.

Rachel raises hand. "Mr. Schuster, I think I've found a song that sums up my feelings perfectly."

Will smiles. "Fantastic, Rachel. Show us what you got."

Rachel walks to the front of the choir room and nods to band before singing 'Gives You Hell.' She opens singing to Finn. The kids eventually join Rachel in dancing, except for Finn and Violet.

Will rolls his eyes in the background. "Guys." He says but the kids ignore him. "Guys, guys, I don't want to be a buzzkill but the assignment was 'hello.'"

Rachel looks at him. "I'm sorry, I was just focusing on the first syllable." She says and looks back at Finn.

Will sighs. "You know what? I don't think you guys understand the seriousness of what we're up against. While we were busy winning our sectional, Vocal Adrenaline was busy winning theirs. They're last year's national champions. They haven't lost a competition in three years. This is the big leagues, guys. If we don't place at regionals, Glee Club is over." He reiterates.

Rachel looks remorseful.

Violet is in the bathroom. She's heard from Santana and Brittany about Rachel seeing Jesse St. James, lead singer of Vocal Adrenaline. She knew Jesse — she'd gone on a blind date with him during winter break. It didn't really work out, so they decided to stay friends.

Rachel walks in the bathroom and Violet takes the opportunity. "Rachel, can I talk to you?" She asks. She hasn't spoken to Rachel since yesterday's glee club practice.

Rachel looks up. "What is it?" She asks sharply.

Violet sighs. "I know you're dating Jesse St. James." She reveals.

Rachel gapes at her. "Y-You can't prove that." She says.

Violet raises an eyebrow. "I have his number. We've been friends for a few weeks. He told me that he was dating a girl named Rachel Berry. Need I say more?" She asks.

Rachel sighs. "What's your point?" She asks.

"Don't you find it to be a bit of a coincidence that Jesse shows up right after we win sectionals? What if he's using you? I don't want you to get hurt." Violet says. Despite what happened between them, she still cares for her former sister.

Rachel rolls her eyes. "Violet stop being jealous." She says.

Violet stares. "What did you just say?" She asks.

Rachel gives her a hard glare. "You heard me. You're just jealous because I'm with someone that can keep up with me intellectually and creatively. Let's face it:  no one wants you in a romantic way. Mike doesn't want you, Matt doesn't want you, Puck wants Quinn and Santana, Artie wants Tina, Finn still wants me, Kurt most definitely doesn't want you, and neither does Jesse. You're just someone that everyone pities because you realize you're nothing more than an embarrassment and a disappointment." Rachel spits.

Violet sighs. "That's not — "

SLAP!

Violet feels her cheek stinging from the slap to her face. Rachel is fuming. "As I said, no one wants you. No one loves you. Why should they? You're a disgrace." Rachel says venomously. After a minute, Rachel exits the bathroom.

Violet rubs at her cheek, seeing a red handprint form where Rachel's hand made contact with her face. She begins to break down into tears, letting Rachel's words sink in. Was she a disgrace, embarrassment, and disappointment? Is that why her own fathers disowned her?

Violet shakily pulls out her phone, looking at her three emergency contacts:  Finn, Kurt, and Quinn. She quickly decides to call Quinn. Kurt would make a scene about Rachel treating Violet poorly, and Finn would definitely be pissed.

It takes two or three rings, but Quinn finally picks up. "Hey Q. Can you come to the bathroom for a minute please?" Violet asks.

The younger Cheerio can practically hear the smile in Quinn's voice. "I'm on my way."

Violet sees Quinn walk into the bathroom 10 minutes later, and Quinn's smile disappears when she sees the red hand on Violet's face. "What the hell? Are you okay? Who hit you?" Quinn asks.

"Three guesses who." Violet says softly.

Quinn's eyes darken. "Rachel." She answers. "But why would she hit her own sister?" She asks.

"I'm not her sister. Not anymore at least." Violet says softly.

Quinn looks at her sadly. "You got kicked out too?" She asks.

Violet nods. "Just before Sectionals. But it's okay Quinn. I'm doing okay."

"How the hell is that okay?" Quinn asks.

Violet smiles gently. "I practically lived with Kurt before getting kicked out. I officially moved in right after Sectionals."

Quinn smirks gently. "So you're living with your boyfriend now? Not to mention sharing his giant basement room?" She says.

Violet blushes.

"He's not my boyfriend... not yet at least."

After the whole Violet bathroom debacle, Rachel walks into the choir room. "Hey, guys." Rachel says.

Kurt rolls his eyes. "Cut the butter, Benedict Arnold. We heard about your new boyfriend."

Mercedes looks at Rachel. "Look, Rachel, we're all happy that you're happy, but we've worked too hard in Glee Club to let you throw it all away on a relationship that might not even be real."

"Why? Cause he's in Vocal Adrenaline?" Rachel challenges.

"Their motto is "aut neca aut necatus eris," which loosely translates to 'murder or be murdered.'" Kurt states.

"They give their dancers human growth hormone." Tina adds.

"Look, we're not saying the dude is playing you – " Mercedes is cut off by Kurt. "He's playing you." He says.

Mercedes continues. "We just think that until regionals are over, we can't risk the possibility that he is."

"None of us wanna go through what happened at sectionals again." Tina says.

Rachel shakes her head, knowing that they're just telling her what violet said in the bathroom. "Okay, look. Jesse and I might not be true love, but what if we are? I know who I am. And how many chances at this am I gonna get?"

Kurtcedes look at each other.

"If you don't break up with him, you're out." Kurt says, smiling a bit on the inside at the thought of Rachel being out of glee club.

Rachel looks appalled. "But you can't kick me out!"

Artie pipes up. "But we can all quit if Mr. Schue doesn't."

Rachel scoffs. "Well, good luck winning without me."

"Everyone is replaceable. Even you." Kurt says offhandedly.

Rachel looks hurt. "How could you do this to me?"

"How could you do this to us? We're a team, and all you've ever wanted was for us to be great, and be a part of something special. Now, is that still true or not?" Mercedes says.

After glee club and Cheerios practice, Violet pulls Quinn and Kurt to the side. "I think I'm gonna tell everyone what happened in a few weeks." She admits.

Kurt looks at Quinn warily. Quinn smiles gently. "It's okay Kurt. I know what happened." She says and then her smile disappears. "But I'm not happy about it."

Kurt nods. "Okay so only the three of us and Rachel know. Wait... what happened to your face Violet?" He asks, seeing her red cheek. The handprint is gone but her cheek is still red.

Violet looks flushed. "It's nothing." She lies. Quinn scoffs. "It's not nothing. Rachel slapped you." She reveals.

Violet looks at Quinn. "Quinn!" She says and Kurt's eyes double in size. "She what?" He asks dangerously.

Violet puts a hand on his arm. "Kurt I'm over it. Really I am. Rachel was just mad because I told her that Jesse might've been using her." Violet says. It's not a total lie, but it's better than telling Kurt what was actually said.

Kurt sighs. "That's not right. She had no right to hit you." He says. Violet smiles gently. "It's sweet that you want to defend me and all, but I'm okay." She reassures.

Kurt looks into her green eyes and gives in. "Fine. But you better tell me if she says anything to you again. Or lays a hand on you. I'll take this straight to Figgins." He says.

Quinn smiles. "I hate to break up this touching moment but if we don't leave now, we'll be late for Glee practice." She says.

The three walk down the hallway, Violet in the middle of the three. Her arms are linked with Kurt's and Quinn's as they walk to the auditorium.

The New Directions are now on the auditorium stage, where they sing 'Hello Goodbye' with Finn and Rachel as lead. Guys are wearing black suits with skinny ties, girls sleeveless black dresses with big white bows on their chests.

After finishing, Rachel walks off. Finn watches as she goes.
