Kurt and I walk into the choir room for glee rehearsal when we see Mr. Shue next to some guy I've never seen before. He's got a killer smile, I'll give him that.
"All right, guys! Let me ask you something. Where do you think you'll be in the year 2030?" Mr. Shue asks us.
"Broadway." Rachel answers.
"Walking." Artie comments.
"In jail, or dead. Or both." Puck states.
"Dancing or teaching." I answer.
"Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, you're going to need to be able to speak Spanish. The reality is, by 2030, more people on this planet will be speaking Spanish than any other language. The world is changing. Our culture is changing. And that needs to be reflected in here. So for our next assignment, we're only doing songs written or performed by someone Latin, or of Latin descent. Or English songs performed bilingually." Mr. Shue says.
"Ooh, I'm bilingual." Brittany says.
Santana raises her hand. "Uh, Mr. Shue, though I love that we're finally getting all Lima Sound Machine in here, why now?"
"Oh, Santana, because it's long overdue. The truth is, I love all things Latin. I mean, I love Latin food, Latin art, Latin people..." Mr. Shue lists off.
"You don't know any Latin people." I say.
"I know. Um... Guys, this is David Martinez. David Martinez, this is the Glee Club." Mr. Shue introduces.
"Oh, my God." Kurt says.
"Cutest..." Rachel starts.
"...smile..." Charlie adds.
"Ever." I finish.
David waves to us. "Hello, everyone. It's a pleasure."
"David here is one of my many Latin friends. And, uh, he's interested in starting his own night school Glee Club, after hours. So, uh, I invited him to come watch us get our duende on." Mr. Shue reveals.
"Duende?" Finn asks.
"Ugh, it means "dwarf," you ass." Santana translates.
"Now I'm completely confused. So what's the assignment?" Finn asks.
"To sing, in Spanish, with duende. Which, yes, literally means "dwarf," but metaphorically, it means to have Spanish soul. To be filled with Spanish passion." Mr. Shue says.
"Will, can I... ¿hablar con ellos?" David asks.
Mr. Shue nods and David looks at us.
"That's... right. A performance with duende transforms you. Makes you sing, makes you cry, makes you laugh. Makes you want to kiss a person you love. A song sung in Spanish must have duende, or else..." he trails off.
"Would you mind showing us?" Santana asks.
"Oh dear God, please, yes." Charlie says. I gotta say, he's feeling a bit better since Blaine's at home, recovering from his successful surgery.
"Be my guest." Mr. Shue says.
"Okay. Well, I'm-I'm not a professional like you guys, but I'll give it a go." David says.
I smile. "All right."
"Now, guys, uh... remember, Mr. Martinez is here as our guest, okay? Let's create a safe and supportive environment." Mr. Shue tells us.
"Uno, dos, tres, cuatro!" David says.
David Martinez begins singing LMFAO's 'Sexy and I Know It' in English and Spanish.
[Sexy and I Know It by David Martinez]
We all cheer for him as the song finishes.
I have a very good feeling about this week's assignment.

The next day, I walk up to Santana at her locker. "Santana can I talk to you about something?" I ask.
She turns around, sees me, and nods. "Yeah. What would you like to talk about?" She asks.
"I want to work on a duet with you for our assignment. You're one of the hottest bitches in school, and in the last almost 3 years, we've never sung a duet together." I tell her.
"Well thank you for commenting on my extreme hotness. I'd love to sing a duet with you. What song were you thinking?" Santana asks.
I smirk. "Only the most famous song by Selena Quintanilla."

Mercedes performs a bilingual version of Gloria Estefan's 'Don't Wanna Lose You.'
[Don't Wanna Lose You by Mercedes]
We all clap for her stellar performance.

The next day, Sam and most of the New Directions guys sing Gypsy King's 'Bamboleo.'
[Bamboleo by Sam]
I can't tell if it's the song or the shoes, but Kurt looks hot.
"Guys, that was some muy serious footwork!" Mr. Shue says.
"Muy means 'very.'" He quickly adds.
"I was in it mostly for the boots." Kurt reveals. I knew it.
"Yeah, what's the deal with those boots? Because wow." I say.
"They're Mexican hipster boots. It's kind of like a fad for groups of guys that are into dance music, and we're kind of like a dance crew. Senor Martinez told us about it." Sam explains.
"The teeth, the duende, the bizarre Mexican fads. Senor Martinez is, like, the best Spanish teacher ever. I can't wait to see your performance, Mr. Shue." Santana states.
"My performance?" Mr. Shue asks.
"Yeah, to defend your Spanish teacher honor. I'm sure you have something muy amazing planned." Santana remarks.

The following day, Santana and I perform Selena Quintanilla's 'Como la Flor.'
[Como la Flor by Sanlet]
As we sing, Santana and I look out into the audience towards Brittany and Kurt, who are both smiling at us.
When we finish, we have hoots and hollers from the others. I smile as I hug Santana and she hugs me back.
"We need to duet more often." I tell her.
"Damn straight."

The next day, Santana and David Martinez perform Madonna's 'La Isla Bonita.'
[La Isla Bonita by Santana and David Martinez]
We all clap for them when they finish. I thought it was an excellent song choice for this assignment.
"Ladies and gentlemen, David Martinez." Santana says.
"Santana, fantástico." David praises.
"David, I'm just a little... I don't know... confused about your participation here." Mr. Shue says.
"And, hey, wasn't that number fantastic and truly authentic?" Santana comments.
David smiles. "Thank you very much, everyone. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a stack of night school exams on my desk that won't grade themselves, so buenas noches." He says.
"Muchas gracias." Mr. Shue says.
"Well, Mr. Shue, the floor is all yours." Santana says and comes to sit next to me.
"I'm excited." Artie says.
"Yay, Mr. Shue." Sugar cheers.
"Really, I'm excited." Sam comments.
"Mr. Shue, you got this!" Finn says.
Mr. Shue sings 'A Little Less Conversation,' which confuses me because he's dressed like a matador, with Brittany and Mike dancing around like bulls.
[A Little Less Conversation by Will]
"Hey! Muchas gracias." Mr. Shue says as he finishes.
Mostly everyone is cheering... except for Santana and I.
Mr. Shue looks at Santana. "It was you. You're the one who complained to Principal Figgins about me."
"Yeah, and I'd do it all over again after that performance." Santana says.
"You're messing with adult things here, Santana. This is my job. This is my life." Mr. Shue states.
"And this is my education, and it's not a joke to me, although it seems to be one to you." Santana bites back.
"What are you talking about? They all loved my performance." Our teacher claims.
"I didn't like it. I was confused." I admit.
"Well other than Violet, it's because they don't know any better. It's your fault. You're their teacher. You went from "La Cucaracha" to a bullfighting mariachi. Why don't you just dress up as the Taco Bell Chihuahua and bark the theme song to Dora the Explorer? You don't even know enough to be embarrassed about these stereotypes that you're perpetuating." Santana tells him.
"That's not fair." Mr. Shue says.
"Isn't it? What did you want to be when you grew up? Why did you become a Spanish teacher, Mr. Shue?" Santana questions.
"Because... it was the only teaching position open at the time." He reveals.
Santana nods. "I want to remind you of something that an amazing teacher once taught me: Without passion, you can't succeed." She says.
"Who taught you that?" Mr. Shue asks.
"You did. And you do. When you teach Glee." Santana tells him.

That night, Kurt and I are cuddling together, watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
"How'd your sleepover with Rachel and Mercedes go the other night?" I ask. I would've been invited too, but Rachel was worried that Hiram and LeRoy would make me feel bad about myself. I appreciate Rachel trying to save me from reliving the lack of a childhood I had.
"It was good. Um... Rachel told me and Mercedes that Finn proposed to her." Kurt says. I pause the movie and sit up.
"You're kidding me." I say. He shakes his head.
"Nope. And she said yes." Kurt reveals.
I sigh. "Wow. I mean, by the way Finn talks about her, I was thinking they'd get married. But... wow." I get out.
"Do you think they're a little too young to get married?" Kurt asks me.
I think for a minute. "I personally think they should wait, but if this is something they really want, then I'm all for it. I'm not going to deny Rachel and Finn what they want. I'm going to be supportive, no matter what my opinion is." I answer.
Kurt nods and pulls me back into his arms. "I love you." He says as he kisses my head.
"I love you too." I tell him.
We just forget about the movie and spend the rest of the night talking to each other.
I love Kurt Hummel with all my heart and soul.
