Chapter 99
Chapter 99
Oliver.
I helped Doris move the keyboard and other instruments out of the music room and into the ballroom. Neru tagged along, barking orders. The only thing that she helped move were the drumsticks; I had to move the drum kit myself!
"Stop moving your mouth and start moving instruments!" I finally yelled, leaning against the keyboard and catching my breath. She was leaning against one of the ballroom's walls, texting someone on her phone.
"Who're you texting, anyways?" I frowned, looking up and peering at her phone's display. She grimaced and pressed the phone to her chest.
"None of your business!" She hissed. I sighed and rolled my eyes, walking up to Doris. She was leaving the ballroom.
"That's all," I said, "We don't need any more instruments."
She nodded. "It's getting late," she frowned, "Don't you have to call Rin?"
I shrugged as we left the ballroom. I heard Neru's shoes clacking against the floor as she caught up. In the living room, the Slurpee machine had been set up, and the decorating was done. All the food was set out in plates and platters, but there was a problem.
"Yuma's still not back yet," I mumbled, pulling out my phone, "Kaito and Miku, too. Maybe I should text them..."
Rin.
Len slowly lifted himself out of the grass and dusted off his pants. "Come on," he said, offering me his hand. I took it and he pulled me up, smiling.
"Let's race," I offered, "First one down the hill doesn't have to pay bus fare."
"Are you sure?" Len tilted his head to one side and swept my bangs off of my forehead gently. Worry was carved into his brow, "You're tired..."
"I'll be fine!" I smacked his shoulder playfully and he laughed.
"All right, then!" He grinned, getting ready to run. I took a step and bolted straight downhill, hearing him yell from behind, "Hey, no fair!"
"Catch me if you can, slowpoke!" I yelled back, tumbling down the grassy slope till I came to the sidewalk. I slowed down to a walk when suddenly I felt two arms grab my waist from behind. I yelped and Len laughed.
"I've got enough for both of us," he said, catching his breath as we walked over to the bus stop, "So no worries."
I nodded and he pulled some change out of his pocket; a handful of silver coins that he held out in his palm in front of me.
"Here," he said. I reached forward to take it, and as soon as our fingers touched, our eyes met and we blushed.
"I swear, it's like electricity between us," Len mumbled with a smile. I nodded and picked up the change.
Len took hold of my free hand and I felt my cheeks grow hot. Just his touch could do that to me. I let my eyes trail towards him, and he was leaning against the bus stop's shelter, just looking down at the pavement and caressing my hand. His blond bangs fell over his eyes, letting slices of blue sparkle from behind the deep yellow of his hair. His eyes flashed from the ground to me and I blushed.
"Is something wrong?" He asked. I shook my head and moved to stand beside him.
"I was...admiring you," I mumbled, looking straight ahead and not at him. He chuckled softly, and then I felt his mouth against my cheek.
"You're adorable, Rin," he whispered, "So, how was the trip?"
I thought about his question for a second before answering. "There wasn't much to do," I said, "I didn't know most of the people. There was a lot of crying, but most of it wasn't me. They talked about Ren's business, and who would be taking over. I don't even know the man who's replacing him, but I'll get about half of the profit."
I sighed as the bus came by and stopped. We walked in, paid the fare, and found a spot to sit in.
"I only cried a little, Len," I smiled, "Much less than half a litre."
He ruffled my hair and leaned back against his seat as the bus rumbled and continued down the road. People chatted quietly, minding their own business.
"You know, Rin," he began, "It...it's amazing how I feel, how you make me feel."
"Hmm?" I frowned as he twirled a strand of my hair between his fingers.
"I make you smile, is that right?" He said. I nodded quickly.
"Just that makes me feel amazing," he pulled me into a hug, "Being able to make you smile, being able to make you laugh, make you happy...I love this feeling."
Miku.
I looked down at Yuma, who was splayed out in front of the car, still conscious, thank God. He was groaning and rubbing his head, though, and I crouched down beside him.
"Yuma, are you okay?" I asked, taking his shoulders. He looked up at me, grimacing.
"Your driver nearly freaking hospitalized me," he mumbled, looking up at Kaito, whose expression had changed completely. He was frowning and guilt was daubed into his deep blue eyes.
"I'm sorry," he began sombrely, offering Yuma a hand, "It was an accident. Are you okay?"
Yuma groaned and took Kaito's hand, getting to his feet and stumbling a little. I helped him stand and he removed his gloves hand from his forehead. It had a little bit of blood on it, but that was enough to freak me out, especially after what had happened to Kaito.
"Hit my head a little," he muttered, "I don't doubt that it wasn't an accident, Kaito."
"He wasn't looking," I scowled at Kaito and he turned away, "Your head..."
"It's fine," Yuma smiled a little, though I could see that it probably stung a bit, "I'm just going to get my guitar. I'll clean it up, it's just a little scrape."
"I'll drive you to your home!" Kaito said suddenly and I winced.
"Kaito, let Jeremy drive!" I said, making a cute face, "Please."
He blushed a little and nodded. My cute demeanour worked much better than my stern one, at least when I was dealing with my ice cream loving boyfriend.
"Okay," he said before apologizing to Yuma again, "I'm sorry."
"Hey, it's okay," Yuma tried to laugh it off, "At least you didn't run me over or anything. I'd haunt you if you did."
Kaito shivered a little and Jeremy stepped out of the car. He let the three of us pile in before getting into the front.
"It's getting late," I mumbled, "Jeremy, Yuma's house!"
Kaito nodded slowly. His bangs fell over his eyes and his eyes were focused on the view outside. Yuma glanced at him, then at me, meeting my gaze.
"Don't be so harsh," he whispered into my ear. I sighed and took Kaito's hand.
"Kaito," I began, "I'm not angry with you."
He looked at me suddenly. "Really?"
"Okay, I'm a little angry," I said, making him sad again, "But it's okay, because I care about you. That's why I'm angry."
"I was being stupid," he said quietly, "Nearly ran over a friend."
"Hey, look," Yuma said, "I'm fine, okay? These sorts of things happen. At least it wasn't worse, right?"
Kaito nodded slowly and I cupped his face in my hands, making him look at me. "Right," his eyes were clouded with sadness. I brought my face closer to his until our noses touched.
"The Kaito I know isn't like this," I whispered, "We're not angry. Yuma's okay. Be thankful for that. Come on, you're not going to greet Rin with a sour face like that, are you?"
Kaito looked into my eyes. His expression was soft and he looked almost peaceful, hearing those words from us. I smiled a little before giving him a quick kiss.
"Now," I said, pulling away and looking at Kaito's blushing face, "That's better!"
"You two are adorable," Yuma mumbled with an amused smirk. I shook my head.
"Nope, you and Gumi are adorable," I crossed my arms.
"Miku thinks that Rin and Len are the cutest!" Kaito suddenly said, "She wrote this fanfiction about them, and it's spicy and..."
"Stop, stop, stop!" I covered Kaito's mouth and blushed. Yuma laughed.
"...You should call Len," Kaito muffled, "He's probably worrying."
Slowly, I removed my hands from Kaito's mouth and pulled out my phone. "Getting worried? Yeah, right! They're probably being all lovey-dovey...," I looked up at Yuma, "Did they talk to Haku?"
He nodded. "They're not related."
"What?" I nearly dropped my phone, "But I had a brilliant 'Forbidden Love' story idea..."
Did you really think that I would kill off Yuma? Really?
...
...
You probably did. But I didn't kill him! Anyway!
