Chapter 20

Gumi.

I sat beside Yuma as Len and Rin looked over the lyrics and the rest of the group got ready to play. I looked up at Yuma, who was examining his guitar. And then he was examining me.

"You'll like this," he smiled. I blushed. I knew he hadn't meant to do it, but his smile had shut my brain down for a moment.

"Okay," I finally said, trying not to make eye contact with him. He put a hand on my shoulder.

"After this, let's go for a run," he said. I kept my eyes to the floor as the group began to play.

Len.

I watched Rin's foot tap up and down to the beat. "Wait till I give you the signal, okay?" She said quickly. I nodded and then turned to look at the lyrics as Rin began her part.

Rin looked at me and nodded. Before I could think twice, I joined her, and then it all seemed to move so fast again.

(Hibiku piano, fukyo waon!)

I felt my heartbeat begin to accelerate as we progressed through the song, and before I knew it, Rin and I were dancing as we sang, grinning as if that was the only facial expression we knew. I could hear Gumi clapping to the beat in the background. Rin took my hand in hers and started spinning around. It was almost as though we were in the middle of a dance, but in reality, the only people dancing were the two of us.

The music took over, and I didn't need the lyrics sheet anymore towards the end of the song, as it was just the chorus again. Finally, when we stopped, I was tired, almost as if I had just gone for a jog.

"That was amazing, Len!" Rin beamed, waving her arms in the air, "See, I told you that you could sing!"

"Yeah, he really is amazing," Yuma nodded, smiling, "I'm with Miku on this one. You're performing with Rin at the festival, dude, no matter what."

I was actually pretty excited for the festival. I didn't expect to end up dancing with Rin that afternoon, and I never thought that I could sing.

"Wait till you listen to yourself," Miku said, handing me a disc, "We recorded your two songs from today; you'll realize how good you and Rin sound together when you listen to it."

I nodded. "Thanks," I said, putting the disc in my bag.

"So are we done for today?" Gakupo frowned, "I've got some tests that need to be marked."

Miku nodded. "Yeah, I think that's enough for this week," and then she looked at me, "You and Rin should start thinking about what you want to perform for the Song of Summer festival. That way, we can practice it as the festival draws closer."

Rin and I looked at each other and nodded. Her hair was all over the place from our intense dancing session, but she still looked extremely pretty.

"Kaito didn't show up, after all," Yuma muttered. Miku nodded, and from the corner of my eye, I noticed Rin's smiling face suddenly transforming into an expression of extreme worry.

Had Kaito done something to her? He never seemed like that kind of person, but then again...how much did I really know about him?

Uh oh, what's going to happen between Kaito and Len??
