Extracting the CCTV footage proved to be tedious work. However, as a certified people-pleaser, I was desperate to find the whereabouts of that bag of pillows. I reviewed the footage once I'd managed to get my hands on it and saw an older woman, purple, place the bag in the lost and found box that everyone, staff included, had collectively forgotten about because of how well-concealed it was. That was what led to me scouring the box after my shift had ended. When I found the bag, I was more than grateful. This could have gone one of two ways. I was thankful it didn't go the other way.
The reason behind my happiness was twofold: Firstly, I was happy I'd finally amounted to something at my workplace that didn't involve missing people. Secondly, I could use this as an excuse to call Warren and even meet him. Spending time at home alone was gradually driving me insane since I'd gotten so used to being around Elsa and Tyrone. My mind was never silent when I was alone.
I called him the moment I got home that day. I let him know that I'd gotten a hold of the bag Fenic was talking about and asked if we should meet somewhere so I could give it to him. To my surprise, however, he sent me his address and asked me to come over to his place. I obliged.
Since I wasn't too good at driving, I had to take a cab there. I told him I'd be there at 5:45pm sharp, half an hour after his shift was over - and I managed to keep my word. When we neared the gate to his place, I felt myself getting.. nervous. I couldn't pinpoint the reason as to why I was feeling this way. I simply let it slide and stepped out of the car after paying the driver. Warren was waiting right outside with a small smile on his face.
I let myself take in his presence. The sun had begun to set and he looked breathtaking underneath the sapphire sky above us. A gentle breeze would brush by us every few seconds and his hair looked as if it was reaching out for the breeze with the way it was flying in the wind. He was wearing a black shirt and his hands were stuffed into the pockets of his grey sweatpants. It had been so long since I'd last met him properly, this almost felt like a dream.
I snapped out of my Warren-induced trance and realized I was standing there like an idiot with a plastic bag.
"Here, the bag," I said, sticking my arm out and handing it to him.
"Thanks, I knew I could count on you," he responded before turning around and walking past the gate. I didn't move. When he noticed this, he turned around and gestured for me to follow him. Clearing my throat, I raced after him. He shut the gate behind us and I registered my surroundings.
His house wasn't something huge and luxurious like you'd see in a romcom movie. It wasn't exactly small either. The exterior was painted a dull white and creepers decorated the walls. I spotted Bruno in the distance waiting for us at the door with her tail wagging and her tongue out. I couldn't help but smile at the sight of her. Upon noticing me, she rushed over and tackled me to the ground. I groaned at the impact but was immediately distracted by Bruno licking me all over my face.
"Easy girl," Warren laughed before pulling her away from me by her collar. She persisted but he held her back. "Sorry about that, she's taken a liking to you."
"I like her too," I confessed, rubbing her head.
He smiled at me before leading us to the front door, "Hey, Juno. You ever watched Alvin and The Chipmunks?"
"No."
"What?! You're kidding!" he gasped. "What are you, a fossil?! Get with the times, man!"
"Shut up. Christmas is over by the way," I retorted, pointing at his sweater.
"Do not speak about Chelsea like that," he said, feigning hurt.
"You named your sweater?" I began. "And you named it Chelsea?"
"Shut up. You've never seen Alvin and The Chipmunks," he shut the door behind us and ushered for me to take a seat on the couch in the living room. "Since my grandma doesn't get home until tomorrow, we're going to change that."
