"How do you do it?"

I breathe in the air filled with the mouthwatering smells of sugar and lemons and lavender and a hint of rosewater that radiates out of Tam's cake as soon as I open the oven door.

Meanwhile, my cake is sitting on the counter, lopsided and burnt and practically uneatable. The only thing it smells like is the socks Fitz has been wearing for a month now without washing.

Like I said, uneatable.

Tam just grins, setting his cake on the counter, which makes the differences so much clearer. Lemons and lavender, dirty socks. Perfect shape, lopsided heap. I sigh.

Tam pulls me into a hug. "Your cake is fine. It's just...special."

I roll my eyes and sock him lightly. Tam makes a face back as he begins stirring the purple frosting for our cakes. Well, his cake, because mine is in too much of a state of distress to be frosted.

I study him as he stirs the frosting. Everything has changed since we first kissed, and there's no awkward feelings. Just Linh, constantly interrupting whenever we share a moment.

Tam sticks his finger in the bowl of frosting and puts some on my nose. I glare at him and stick my hand in the frosting and put it in his hair.

"YOU DID NOT!" Tam screeches. "BIANA, I'M GOING TO GET YOU FOR THIS!"

I giggle, and help him wash his hair using the kitchen sink. "Better now?"

Tam sighs. "Are you ever going to change?"

I smirk. "In your dreams. You know you love me."

Tam raises an eyebrow. "Do I?"

"Yup."

"Sounds about right," he says, and I lean in for a kiss filled with sugar and lemons and lavender and a hint of rosewater.
