I watch as Keefe sweeps Sophie into his arms and holds her tight as she giggles, Keefe somehow recognizing her in her mask. My toe taps impatiently because it's been 10 minutes since I entered the auditorium for the Masquerade Ball and Adam still hasn't shown his face.

I brush down the long tulle of my dress and pick on the rhinestones, ignoring the looks some of the boys who haven't given me a glance before are now flashing my way. Suddenly, my eyes latch onto someone in the back.

Tam.

My heart flutters. How could it not? His silver bangs are shining in the disco-lights and the flecks in his eyes are twinkling. I watch as a slight grin comes onto his face as he looks at Linh and Wylie dancing, lighting up his face. In his suit, he looks formal, but don't-carish, and a hundred percent handso--

"Hey, honey."

I look up to see Adam, his hair practically heavy with product, and--wait a sec, is that lipstick on his lips? I stare, and then shake my head. Adam wouldn't do that.

I glare at him. "Where were you?"

Adam looks over his shoulder guiltily. "Just getting a sip of punch. May I have this dance?"

The lights have dimmed, and slow-dance music is starting to come on. I sigh as Adam pulls me closer so we're in the position. I didn't want to come to this dance? So why am I even here?

But as Adam whispers, "You look beautiful," my spirits rise. He seems nicer than expected. And it had to be the punch that was making his lips red.

I rest my head against his shoulder, enjoying the moment. As Adam twirls me, my vision does a 360 and lands on the boy with silver bangs.

I've been purposely watching Linh and Wylie for a reason. It's not that I'm paranoid, it's because there's someone's eyes I'd like to avoid.

And then my eyes land on theirs.

How can they not? Biana looks stunning, and my heart riles up as she looks my way. But she's practically holding Adam, gripping his shoulder's with those rhinestone-studded nails. It's not right for me to look at her like that.

But it's so hard to resist.
