Chapter 16

The boat scene never happens.  Also, I looked at the read and 199?! Thank y'all sooo much!

"Oh, I did." We glare at each other.

Pegasus's Pov

One more question and Peter's team wins.

"Which is a hypothetical string theory weightless particle? A) Gravaton, B) Anti Matter or C) Baryonic Matter?" The announcer asks.

Peter is the to first answer. "A) Graviton!" he hurriedly says. The room is silent.

The announcer's mouth drops open. "C-c-correct," he stutters. The room then erupts int cheers, mainly from the decathlon team.

Good job, Spidey. He turns to the back of the room and make myself visible just long enough to smile and wave for him to see, then I leave. Deciding I have nothing better to do, I go on patrol. Nothing fancy, just a normal, uneventful patrol. That did not work. This is why: halfway through, I hear Peter.

Peggy! The purple glowy thing exploded at the top of the Washington monument!

'He's amazing at getting into trouble,' I grumble in my head.

Now's not the time! Knowing he's right, I go inside the monument. I see the elevator falling and I stop it with my magic. I get into the elevator and reassure them that everything's gonna be fine while Peter scowls and rolls his eyes. I glare at him and he smirks. I don't know how they're on the decathlon team considering none of them, except Ned and MJ, MJ somehow figured it out because I can see it on her face, noticed.

"Why are you here and not in New York?" one of the members, Flash asks.

"I help any New Yorker in trouble," I say noticing Peter trying not to laugh in the corner.

Peter's Pov

I half feel bad for putting Peggy in this situation, and half don't because this is gold. This earns me another glare that goes unnoticed by the team.

*Skip to when they're back home and the dance is happening because I'm unoriginal like that.*

"So, Peter, are you asking anyone to the dance?" Peggy asks, knowing full well that I like Liz.

"Maybe..." I say. Peggy, knowing who this someone is, pushes me forcefully to her. I glare at her before turning to ask her.

"Heeeey, Liiiiz," I say, making each word longer than need be. She laughs.

"Hey Peter!" she replies with her bright persona.

'Bright Persona'? Who are you? Shakespeare? I subtly shake my head at her.

"I-I w-was wondering if you maybe wanted to go to thedancewithme?" Way to make a fool of yourself, Peter.

She laughs again. "I was waiting for you to ask. Of course I will." I sigh, relieved. We smile awkwardly at each other and leave.

"Great Job, Spider-boy. At least she was willing to give you a chance." I glare at Ned, the owner of that sentence.

Peggy, seeing this, says, "He's not wrong. I was waiting for you to pass out from nerves."

As soon as I get home, I tell May the events of the day. She makes no move to hide her joy.

"Chill, May! Just because this is the first person that I've had the courage to ask out, and she's one of the most popular people in the school, and-"

"Peter, stop. You're embarrassing yourself."

The rest of the rest of the week goes by in a flash. I'm really nervous because Liz told me her dad is driving us to the dance because he's heading out of town. To slow down the week, I tried to focus on the fact that the Vulture hasn't shown up for a while. Maybe he's done, or maybe he's planning something huge. Hopefully it's the first thing. But it's more likely the second.

Finally, Friday night comes. Peggy's going to the dance with Ned and MJ, but I'm going with Liz. I can't stop freaking out!

"I'll see you later, Peter!" May calls. "Make good choices!"

I knock on the door carrying the flowers for Liz. Her dad answers. He seems familiar. He looks like he recognizes me, too. What if he's the Vulture!!?? No. Get that thought out of your head, Peter. A supervillain couldn't raise someone like Liz.

I love it when you talk to yourself.

Pegasus! Stay out of my mind!

Fiiine.

I awkwardly continue talking to her parents while we wait on Liz. When we get out into the car, I look out the window while Liz checks her hair on her phone. "What are you gonna do, Pete?" I hear her dad ask.

"What?" I ask confused and, let's be honest, a little scared.

"When you graduate. What do you think you're gonna do?"

"I-I don't- I don't know," I reply.

"Don't grill him, Dad," Liz says.

"Just sayin'. You know when you guys go to that school, you pretty much have your life planned out, right?"

"Yeah. No, I- I'm just a sophomore." I need to stop.

"Peter has an internship with Tony Stark," Liz brags. "So, I think he doesn't have to worry."

"Really?!" her dad asks. Liz hums that it's true. "Stark? What do you do?"

"Nothing much. Just helping the interns with their work."

"He gets to hang out with Spiderman and Pegasus!" she adds.

"Really? Spider-man and Pegasus. Wow. What are they like?" he says, monotone.

Shoot. Shoot this is bad!! ABORT MISSION!!! "Yeah, they're cool." I'm so proud of myself for me just sounding like a scared teenager. But her dad's eyeing me like I'm suspicious. "Nice man," I add and nod my head. "Solid girl."Okay, this is a little excessive. I'll stop.

"Huh."

Liz leans over to me with her phone. "Look! They're so cute!"

"Aww," I coo, not really getting the point.

"I've seen you around, haven't I? Have we ever- cause even the voice-" he asks. HE KNOWS! I THINK HE'S THE VULTURE BUT HE CAN'T BE BECAUSE LIZ!

"Umm, he does Academic Decathlon with me," Liz says. I really owe her. "And he was at my party."

"It was a great party. Yeaah. Really great. Beautiful house, lot of windows." I say, internally groaning at myself.

"You were there for like two seconds," Liz points out.

"I was there longer than two seconds!" I defend.

"You disappeared."

"No! No, I did not disappear."

"Yes, you did. You disappeared like you always do. Like you did in D.C., too."

"That's terrible what happened there in D. C., don't you think? Were you scared?" Toomes asks.

I nod my head.

"I bet you're glad your old pal Pegasus was there to save the day, huh?" This is an interrogation! HE DOES KNOW!

"Very lucky that she was there that day."

"Daad, light," Liz says, noticing the tension.

We finally arrive at the dance.
