Flashback time! >~<

Dense air filled the air as the trees loamed over me. I watched a single amber leaf float down from the oak tree. The blue sky contrasted with the sun, it's rays beaming down and lighting the world. A girl with black hair that was braided in a single braid. Her blue eyes reflected the sky, and her darker skin was dotted with freckles. She sneered. I frowned. She said something to a redhead beside, who had blue glasses and silver braces. The girl's shoulders bounced, and I could tell she was giggling softly. Did they know I could hear them? I narrow my eyes, and look back at the first girl.

Her lips moved some more, whispering and a girl who looked like her came towards us, standing only a few paces back. She looked like the  the first girl but with lighter skin and her hair was pulled into a messy bun.

"What are you guys doing?" The girl who just appeared questioned. She looked at me as if she expected me to say something to defend myself. I gave her a blank stare. She walked over to the two girls.

"Oh! Emma, what are you doing where?" The redhead said blankly.

"Just wondern' what your up to." Emma replied.

"We.... were just saying hi to this girl, she was telling us about her..... dog." The first girl lied. I gasped silently. That was wrong in so many ways. One, I couldn't speak, two I'm allergic to dogs.

Emma seemed to believe this for a second, then she turned to me.

"What's your name?" She says softly. I swallow and grab my note book. I had never been interested in sign language or anything. I scribble down my name. I did this for everyone I met. I can feel all of them staring at my back as I did so. I handed it to her. She blinks, but reads it. She pauses and smiles.

"Nice to meet you, Fawn. I'm Emma."  She steps closer and whispers. "Don't mind them. C'mon!"  She races off. I smile, and run after Emma. Her dark hair blowed back as we ran, our feet barely touching the ground. I feel wind in my face, burning my eyes. She continues to a large pine tree, and ducks under it's branches. I hesitate before doing the same. Inside it's protective branches, there was enough room for both of us to sit. She smiled and we 'talked'. I use my notepad and she talked and read.

- End of flashback-

I smiled as the memory finished and the teacher rambled on about... genes? I shook my head. I wish you were here Em. I glanced at the white and black clock. It's red hand ticked every second, every heartbeat. The class still has 15 minutes left. The boy beside me looked over and pushed up his glasses. He blinked, "What did she just say?" He mutters. I bite the inside of my cheek, and shrug. He puckers his lips slightly, reminding me of Em, when we went for pizza, and she mistakenly got a veggie one with spices. I giggle, but my shoulders only bounce and I smile, but no noise. He looks at me strange, as if he's wondering how I was so quiet.

After class, a familiar looking girl pushed past, her dark skin and freckles matching her light pink shirt and ripped jeans. She had faint bronze eyeshadow and pink lipstick. I stop short, no. She looks at me too, and the world seems to slow down. She looks at my shoes, then travels to my face. Her jaw drops slightly, and she swallows hard. She then races off, well, as fast as you can go in a school.

In a room that smelt like paint and charcoal, that had many gray counters that were splashed with colours. A couple of tables were spread acrosss the middle. My first art class, thank goodness. I sat at the far table, on a stool. Soon, no one sits down here, but I'm happy not to have anyone here. Until Zeke comes, his blue button up shirt rolled up at the sleeves. He smiles and begins to chat. I hear a quiet apology from across the room, and a girl comes to sit here. I look at the other tables, and they were all full. Then I look at the girl. She's the same one from before. It's for sure her. After a minute of staring and being awkward Zeke clears his throat.

"So, erm, I'm Zeke and this is Fawn. What's your name?" He says, without looking up from his drawing. She pauses before saying, "Name's Mari. Nice to met you Zeke." Zeke smiles, then looks at me. I nod sadly, but I don't think he knows what I mean.

:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:

On the bus, I get on my phone, my backpack on my lap. I text:

I wait for a couple of minutes before she replies.
