Speak Now
Phil hated that Dan was going to marry her. Torey Kingsley. She was only using him. She didn't love him like Phil did. Phil would do absolutely anything for Dan, and she just wouldn't. She was, to put it lightly, a bitch. And deep down, Phil thought, deep down Dan must know that. Otherwise, he's just not very smart. Because Phil made it obvious that he liked Dan, more obvious than Torey's scheme. And Dan either didn't notice or perhaps he didn't care.
Phil still fixed his tie and made his way out the door though; it's not like he couldn't go to the wedding; he was the best man! And that broke his heart. Because he was trying to be happy for Dan, and he really was. It was just that he loved him too much to want to watch him marry another. Especially a woman that was using him.
So into the car he went, and down the road he drove, and into the church he walked. As much as it hurt, he couldn't miss it. Not only would Dan hate him, but he'd feel guilty. And he didn't want to deal with the constant guilt or the fact that Dan would hate him as well.
As soon as he entered the church, he found Dan. "Hi," Phil said, hugging Dan and not wanting to let go. But he did anyway. He also wanted to tell him about Torey, but he'd only think that Phil was lying. Phil didn't want that to happen. "Are you excited?" Phil asked calmly and quietly.
Dan nodded. "Of course I am," he said, smiling just a little. Phil returned the smile as others were heard pulling into the church parking lot. "Ah, I can't believe it. I'm getting married, Phil. Isn't it crazy?"
Phil shrugged. "Well, you're crazy, so... I'd expect it," he chuckled lightly. Dan chuckled, too. Soon, everyone was waiting in the pews and Dan walked over to the alter to wait for his bride.
Phil and Torey's maid of honor, Meredith linked arms and walked down the aisle, followed by the groomsmen and bridesmaids. Lastly, Torey walked down the aisle. Phil just wished that it was him instead of her.
As Dan took ahold of Torey's hands, the preacher started speaking. "We are gathered here today, on this happy and joyous occasion, To join this man and woman in holy matrimony," he said. Phil looked around the room and noticed some of the people smiling. Some, however, were not.
"Torey Kingsley, do you take Dan Howell to be your lawfully wedded husband, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" The preacher asked her.
She nodded. "I do," she whispered calmly. Phil noticed the fake smile on her face.
"Dan Howell, do you take Torey Kingsley to be your lawfully wedded wife, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
Phil noticed the hesitant look in Dan's eyes before he whispered two words that continued to shatter Phil's heart: "I do."
"If anyone here, for some reason, objects to this wedding, and thinks these two should not be together, speak now, or forever hold your peace."
'I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to ruin this for him.' Phil thought to himself. He closed his eyes tight and held his breath. Silence filled the air momentarily.
"Then by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you-"
"Wait," Phil whispered, cutting the preacher off mid-sentence. Dan spun around to look at his best friend, wondering just what he was doing.
"Phil?" Dan whispered.
"I- I can't let you marry her," Phil stammered, on the verge of tears, because what was he doing besides possibly ruining his friendship with the best thing that's ever happened to him? "She's using you. She's cheating on you."
"What?" Dan questioned, turning to his bride who obviously knew she had been caught. She gulped and closed her eyes. "Torey, is this true?"
"Yes," she declared.
Dan turned back to his best friend, who was now silently crying to himself. "Phil? What's wrong? Are you okay?"
Phil shook his head. "You're going to hate me for this," Phil whispered, wiping away the tears on his cheeks.
"Hate you for what?"
Phil gulped and his heart pounded in his chest. "I love you, Dan," he said, before taking a step forward, placing his hands on Dan's cheeks, and pressing their lips together. Some people gasped. In fact, everyone except Dan and Phil gasped.
Phil quickly pulled away before Dan could reciprocate. A blush hugged his cheeks. "I'm sorry," he whispered. Dan blinked and stood there for a moment.
"I love you, too, Phil," Dan stated as he pulled Phil back in for another kiss, to which Phil reciprocated immediately. "I've always loved you. I've always wanted you. I just didn't think you'd ever feel the same about me."
"I always have."
"Marry me, Phil?"
"Yes."
And after a few adjustments, the two were standing together.
"Phil Lester, do you take Dan Howell to be your lawfully wedded husband, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" The preacher asked.
"I do," Phil answered. Dan smiled.
"Dan Howell, do you take Phil Lester to be your lawfully wedded husband, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
"I do."
"Then by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and... Husband. You may kiss."
The small group of people aww'ed at the newlyweds as they kissed.
"I love you, Phil Lester," Dan whispered.
"I love you too, Dan Howell."
THE END.
