Chapter 2

Days passed by as the hospital clock ticked, and with every tick, Celia swung her leg to and fro. She was beyond exhausted and still a long time was ahead, with nurses running in and out, and an oxygen tube in which she tangled around her wrist in boredom. It had only been a few days since the incident near the side of the mountain, and her lungs had still been recovering. For the time being, her parents had been talking to the doctors, near the entrance of the room, debating on the outside world beyond the village, and beyond the country she had called home.  They debated on whether there would be better chances in the unknown, because there was nothing left a hospital in the most rural part of Afghanistan could do, even though five years back, they had told her the possibility of living here was not going to change the way it was for the family.
"So you are saying that the treatments here are that will probably last long enough for her to stay?" Despite trying to be quiet and secretive, the little girl could still here what was going on, and from the corner of her eye, she could see to little green eyes peeking up from the side of the bed, causing Celia to jump.
"You know you are not supposed to be in here if you don't know the family." She was crossed, and her voice was as cold as ice. Since she was a baby, her family members, doctors, and nurses were aloud into the room, as it was a safety hazard, at least for her. But, something was particular about this girl she couldn't put her mind to.
The girl with green eyes stood on her tip-toes, dating to put her head a little bit closer to Celia, frowning in frustration. "You don't remember me?"
Celia shook her head, her face becoming emotionless. "Nope. Not one bit. Though..." She flipped onto her stomach, shaking the tubing off of her, as she placed a hand under her chin to support it. "I do remember those green eyes... Wait were you the person who was stalking me as I walked up the mountain? You little creep!"
"This 'little creep' saved your life! Who do you think brought you here? Your parents?" The girl then pushed herself up so that she could get up on top of the bed, the both of them staring each other down. "Your parents were searching for you down at this village, a little far from home. You were gone for so long, it worried them a lot."
"You know a lot of big words for a 5-year old."
               "So do you."
Looking away, she opened her mouth to contradict, but different words came out. "What is your name?"
The girl's eyes sparkled in pure triumph. "My name is Elodie. E-L-O-"
"I know how to spell Elodie. It's easy!" Celia interrupted, slightly crossed, but then snickered. "Try spelling Celia."
Elodie froze, before putting her hands on her face, causing her to slide down the bed. A loud, high pitches squeal escaped her mouth, but Celia quickly reached for her hand and and helped her get back onto the bed. "Ok, so as I was about to say. C-A-L-I-A." After rolling around the words in her mouth, before squinting her eyes. "That isn't right is it?"
"No, no it isn't. It's spelled C-E-L-I-A." She giggled at the way she had spelled, and the way she had moved her mouth. Everything in this hospital was odd, and just a few days ago, she had received her first battle scar. Just thinking about it, made the pain slowly seep back in, but regardless, she wanted to pay her back with one last thing. Holding onto the rim of the bed, she wiggled her lower half, and pounced, causing them both to tumble to the floor. Elodie squealed as she tumbled to the floor, and as Celia lay on the floor, she stared up at the ceiling feeling the pain begin to intensify, but unlike any other moment, she was careless about that.
Looking over at Elodie, she smiled, holding up a shaking fist into the air. "Will you by my friend, from here on out, even if it means me using my last breath to bring you back up your mountain."
After a moments hesitation, she swung her hand up into the air. "I do. And I shall do the same for you." She then paused. "Just don't die on me please."

'And it was at that moment, that I noticed we would live our lives together."
-Elodie Imam
