Chapter Twentythree-Shopping
(A/N) Hello!!! I tried...
The supermarket wasn't hard to find. I just simply followed the voices saying, "Fresh pork to fill your rumbling bellies tonight! One day offer!" and "Vegetables to add flavor to supper and cure sickness!" and such.
Now, being royal, I wasn't used to such crowded spaces and people shoving me aside. It took all my effort to not give up, turn around, and go away. Preferably running.
Weaving my way around chatty villagers, I smelled a slight fragrance of flowers, and raced to a building that read, "Nature's Wonderful Floral Shoppe". A cobblestone path led straight to an oak door, and on both sides of the path lay flowers in all shades of colors, just as unique as their fresh scent.
To be honest, I wasn't so sure about myself. Like, how can I be so sure in a strange place? I came up with two theories; number one being instinct, and number two being common sense.
I hesitated a little before raising my right hand. I grasped the doorknob and slowly turned it and pushed the door inwards.
Creeeeaaaaaaaakkk. I opened the door, and somewhere in the near me, a bell tinkled. But I didn't pay attention to the bell much, because I was too busy gaping at the blooming wonderland, not believing my eyes. If fairies existed, this would have been their kingdom, their homeland.
A door at the back of the store opened, breaking into my thoughts. I closed my mouth.
"Why, hello, dear!" The woman smiled, bringing sparkles of life to her eyes. The best thing she said made me glad that no one else is witnessing this. "I'm honored to receive a visit from the Royal Highness herself!"
I raised my index finger to my lips, indicating that she doesn't tell about seeing the princess to the public. I caught a glimpse of a sign that hung above the main entrance's/exit's doorway, which said "Thank You for Coming!". I pointed to it, hoping she gets that I am pretty grateful that at least someone recognized a royal member. But it's not like I want them to know a princess is in town.
"Of course, anyone would recognize the-oh my, I mustn't blurt out the words now, should I? But of course, you're a sweet and innocent girl that is in an unfortunate situation." She patted my head. "Why must you come in a disguise?" The lady babbled on about why I shouldn't use a disguise, but I tuned her out. I guess this is an old person problem, no offense to them.
"Grandma!" A girl with short, green, spiky hair ran to the elder lady. "Stop rambling about something she's not here for!" She turned to me. "Sorry for the inconvenience my grandmother has brought upon."
I went to the sign that said, "Back Pains? No Problem!", but covered up half of it so she would only see the "No Problem!" part.
"Um, I don't want to be rude, but can you talk?" She asked. When I shook my head, she said, "So, you're mute?"
I nodded.
"On the bright side, you still do have a mouth, right? You don't have to be fed by a tube connected to your stomach at least." The girl tried for a smile. "Oh, I should've introduced myself. Name's Layla."
I took out the poor papyrus and quill that I had forgotten earlier. *Jenna. Yours has a nice ring to it.*
"Thanks!" Her smile became real and relaxed. "Oh, silly me, I shouldn't chit-chat and waste your time! Now, what would you like to buy?" Layla retreated to behind a counter decorated with more flowers, careful not to step on her now snoozing grandmother's foot.
I handed her the paper Miri gave me. Layla scanned the paper and went to the nearby shelves labeled "12-h" while muttering to herself.
It took her a few minutes, but eventually she emerged into view, holding six packets in her open palm.
"Here you go!" Layla said cheerfully. "Two silvers and one bronze!"
It seemed rather cheap to me, but I gave her the money anyway (with tips, of course) and grabbed the packets.
"Thank you for coming!" She called after me. I simply turned around and waved back before the door shuts.
(A/N) Heigh, ho, a-votin' we shall go...
