Chapter Twelve-New
Ben
I ran all the way back home, swallowed in fear. What if Jenna doesn't make it?
But when I reached the hut, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Jenna is fine, just a bit quiet. Well, no one can hear her voice, and probably never will, even if she screams, so...
Miri has started screeching at Carol for something about not doing her job. Carol just merely nodded and said, "Yes, ma'am.", but it was pretty clear she is dying inside. Help was flashed to me as she caught my eye.
I ignored her.
Instead, I went to Jenna, who was sitting on the bed that she had been slept in. The sky was reflected in her eyes, so I can't really see her real eye color. Jenna was staring out the window, where freedom lays.
I sat down next to her. She didn't notice. My mouth opened.
"Hi." I stupidly said, and Jenna jumped, startled. When she focused her eyes on me, I drew in my breath. Her eyes were as blue as the ocean, like you can drown in them. We stared at each other for a moment, then Jenna turned away, searching for something.
Confused, I silently watched her, until she came out with a quill dipped in ink and a piece of papyrus with words already on it.
*Hi* Jenna scrawled. *Are you Ben?*
"Yes." I answered, surprised. "How did you know? Did Miri tell you?"
*Kind of.* Jenna wrote. *Miri kept telling Carol, "Ben is going to be so disappointed in you." And stuff like that.*
"Oh." We sat in silence for a bit, the only sound we're able to hear is Miri's raging screams and shrieks with Carol's occasional "Yes, ma'am"s and "No, ma'am"s.
"I like your hair and eyes." I blurted out. Jenna flinched, then her adorable face flushed with embarrassment from being scared again.
*Thank you.* Jenna wrote, clearly still ashamed of her action earlier, as her face is tinged with pink.
I patted her arm to give her comfort. She tensed, but didn't move away. Hopefully, it's a good sign. "It's alright. You don't have to be embarrassed.
Snickers and giggles were heard across the room. I turned away from Jenna to see Miri and Carol making mock-kissing faces at each other. When they huddled together and caught them looking at Jenna and I, I knew instantly what they were talking about.
No. Just no.
"I am shipping you guys together." Carol suddenly declared. When did she learn about ships (like the love ones, not things that go on water)? "You and Jenna." Miri's smile became a little more forced, but I didn't care.
I didn't look at her, but I'm pretty sure that Jenna's face and mine are as red as tomatoes.
(A/N) Applause for the ship Jen! How about cheering them on with a vote (wink, wink)?
