Chapter 5

Sam's POV:

They stopped at an alley. Why is it always an alley? I took in a few deep breaths to calm myself down and whacked my brain for all possible answers. Either they had a secret hideout that they could access by tapping on the bricks of the wall in the alley, which led to a passageway magically appearing in front of them OR they knew that I was following them and led me here as a trap. As much as I didn't want to believe it, I had to choose the latter. At least I knew I was armed. I consciously touched the rods that were against my back. It was time...

Ace's POV:

I had been running for God knows how long. I felt like I would collapse on the concrete any minute but kept running. I had to get to Sam. I had to find her. Thousands of questions raced through my head. Where was Sam? Was she okay? What was so important that she couldn't tell me? Why'd she lie to me about meeting her mom? I glanced at my phone while running and saw that I was getting closer to the red dot... To Sam. What I didn't see, however, was the obstacle in front of me. My eyes widened as my legs didn't slow down. There was a food stall coming closer and closer. I did what my first instinct told me to do... I went in for a dive... My body sliced through the air and went neatly through the space between the shelf of the stall and it's top. I caught my breath as I made contact with the floor, Summersaulting to a stop. I eyes grew wide as I took in a few deep breaths to calm my racing heart down. What the heck just happened?!?! How did I do that?!?! I was still crouched on the floor when I turned to look at the stall owner, his expression matching mine.

"That was wicked, man!" he cried out in shock.

"Thanks," I breathed out a reply, giving him a quick nod. I remembered what I was actually supposed to be doing and shot up straight. I started walking and noticed that my phone was still in my hand when I made that dive. I gathered air in my cheeks and let it out slowly, shaking my head. I smiled, which turned into a silent laugh.

"That sure was wicked," I muttered to myself and tucked my phone inside my jean's pocket. I began jogging, turning it into a run as I gained speed.

Sam's POV:

I took the rods from under my shirt and held them in my hands. They had buttons in their centres. I held the rods next to each other in a horizontal, straight line. I took in a deep breath and pressed both buttons at the same time. A sudden electric shock jolted through my arms, causing me to stumble backwards. My eyes widened as I saw the rods light up and shape shift and transform into a silver bow. I gasped lightly as a string made of light started to appear on both ends of the bow. I held the bow as though it were made of a precious material and examined it. It was slightly curved and had carvings that were glowing slightly. It fit perfectly in my hands and I carefully tightened my grip around it. I furrowed my brows as a thought hit me. What about arrows?

I lightly ran my fingers along the lit up string and pulled. My heart beat quickened as I saw an arrow made of light taking shape in the space between the bow and it's string as I pulled the string further and further. I slowly released the string, not letting go of it and saw the arrow disappear little by little.

"Woah..." I breathed out, smiling slightly. A sudden surge of confidence seeped through me as I stepped out of my hiding place and positioned myself at the entrance of the alley, pulling at the string of the bow and taking my stance. I aimed it at one of the suited men who I assumed to be the leader.

"About time you came out of hiding, Ms. Peterson," the man spoke, his voice deep and clear, as he turned around slowly. I heart beat increased as my nerves kicked in but it didn't move my stance nor the arrow aimed at his head.

"Who are you? How do you know my name? Why were you outside my house for THREE days?!?" I yelled, unable to keep it in any longer. The man turned completely and smiled slightly.

"No need to yell, Ms. Peterson. We're on the same team here," he said. I furrowed my brows.

"Same team? What are you talking about? What team?" I asked, my voice a little lower than before but still loud.

"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Agent Coulson. I'm a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. We'd like you to take a walk with us," Agent Coulson said. My eyes widened and I slowly lowered the bow.

"S.H.I.E.L.D?" I whispered.
