Chapter 2
I was crossing the road when I heard someone call my name. I ignored them and kept walking towards Simon's school.
"Hey! Wait up, Sam!" I heard Ace call from behind me and placed his hand on my shoulder to stop me. I did and turned around, annoyed. He was panting from running after me.
"What, Ace?" I asked in a monotone.
"I think I should be asking you that," he replied, having regained his breath. I sighed.
"So, are you going to tell me what all that was about or do I have to beg?" he asked me.
"It was nothing," I mumbled, running a hand through my hair. Ace chuckled.
"Doubt it," I looked at my smirking best friend and suddenly felt like crying. I dropped my bag on the ground and buried my face into Ace's shirt but left my hands hanging. It startled him.
"Woah, Sam! What's up?" he asked, wrapping his arms over my shoulders.
"The sky," I mumbled. He took a second to get what I had said but when he did, he chuckled.
"No seriously, what's wrong?" he asked. He pulled me away from him and held me at arm's length, studying my face. I sighed.
"I was just so sick and tired of Cross showing off! I mean, who does he think he is? The Prince of Wales? Hell no! He's always showing off! Not sometimes, ALWAYS and..." I rambled on.
"Sam, calm down!" Ace interrupted me and I took in a deep breath. He wiped the tears, that I had no idea were there, from my face with his thumbs.
"He's a jerk and deserved what he got!" I said in a tired voice. Ace nodded. He suddenly let out a laugh. I looked at him questioningly.
"But the way you left everyone hanging... That is what I call STYLE!!" he stated, causing me to laugh. He smiled.
"Yeah, Cross got what he deserved. Not only that but you represented more than half of the school in what you did and that was on behalf of all of those who were scared to do anything themselves," Ace said.
"All of them were scared to do anything themselves," I pointed out.
"Exactly," Ace said, pointing at me. I smiled at my best friend.
"Thanks, Ace," I said. He grinned as he picked up my bag and swung it over his shoulder.
"You're always welcome, Sam," he replied, smiling at me. We began walking towards Simon's school. I asked Ace to hand me my bag but he refused and I was in no mood of fighting, so I let him keep it. After a while, we came near my little brother's school. Ace glanced at me sideways.
"Feeling alright now?" he asked. I smiled while climbing the front steps of Field's Preschool (A/N: made the name up!).
"Never better!" I replied in a British accent, opening the front door and going inside. Ace laughed and followed me inside. We went through the building to the football field in the back. It wasn't as big as an actual football field but big enough for preschool kids. Yes, Simon is a preschooler. In grade 2, to be very specific. I was 8 when he was born. Ace and I went to the benches surrounding the field and sat down. There was a game going on between two teams: one wearing blue shirts and the other wearing green. It took me no time to spot my blonde headed little brother in the blue team. I smiled and Ace did, too, when I pointed out Simon to him.
"He's really good," Ace commented after a while. I grinned and nodded.
"Yeah," I said. Just then, Simon's team scored and Ace and I jumped up, clapping and cheering loudly. The coach blew the whistle, indicating the end of the game. The cheering caused Simon to spin around in our direction. His face lit up as he saw us.
"SAM!!" he cried out, running over to me. I opened my arms and he ran into them and I lifted him up.
"Sam, did you see the last goal? Did you see? Did you see?" my little brother asked me excitedly. I laughed and nodded.
"Yeah Simon, I did see it. It was AWESOME!" I replied, causing Simon to smile widely. I put him down.
"Hi, Ace!" he said loudly and hugged Ace's legs. Ace ducked and picked Simon up, swinging him over his shoulders. Simon yelped out in surprise, causing Ace and I to laugh.
"Hey, buddy!" Ace said, looking up at Simon and smiling. I smiled at those two and went to pick up Simon's stuff.
'Let's go, you two goofballs!" I said.
"HEY!" they shouted out. I grinned at them. With me leading them, we headed out of Simon's school. Next up: Sunshine Daycare.
