Prologue Part One: Imprisonment
(3rd Person's POV)
According to many people, the world is round. But...is that really true?
After all, Earth might have the shape of...rock candy! Like that spiky lump of sugar your grandma would wrap in a tissue! ...But, one wouldn't really know for sure.
It's not like they've actually seen the shape of the Earth. In the same way, they've never actually seen most things that are considered common knowledge. Common knowledge and what we take for granted.
We base our lives around such uncertain things. Well... not that it matters all that much for some people. I mean, some worlds aren't even big enough to worry about stuff like the shape of the earth or common knowledge.
"Yawwwn..."
Some like this young girl.
In fact, her world is pretty small. So small that it's actually pretty funny.
This is her world. This two-bedroom apartment that she lives in is the world that she finds herself in. Her life doesn't extend beyond these walls.
But it's not like she's a shut-in or anything. She's actually imprisoned inside this room. This young woman...is Komaru Naegi. She's a completely normal high school girl who lives an abnormal daily life.
DANGANRONPA ANOTHER EPISODE: ULTRA DESPAIR GIRLS
"Alright..." Komaru started, doing some arm stretches. She takes a running start before pounding at the door. "Let me out! Let me out of here! Hey! Jeez, you can hear me, right?"
Ever since her imprisoned life began, this pointless defiance became her morning routine. It was only in the beginning that she was seriously crying and yelling.
In frustration, Komaru threw one final kick, and with that, she stopped.
It's been a year and a half since Komaru's imprisoned life began. Can you believe it? A year and a half! So long that she's become completely used to this life. It's frightening how well humans can adapt. She's learned that first hand through this imprisonment. But it's not like she's completely given up, of course. If she had, she wouldn't do things like change her uniform every morning. She just... doesn't wanna get her hopes up too much. Because through this imprisonment, she's learned too much about the horrifying despair that always follows hope.
Currently, Komaru was reading a magazine cover before...
DING, DONG!
"Jeez! It's finally breakfast? It's about time, I'm starved in here!" Komaru let out a rough sigh.
But anyway. About this whole imprisonment... unfortunately, even Komaru, the victim, have no clue whatsoever.
Through a sliding hole, a plate with toast, eggs and bacon, and some tea was given.
Ever since she's been taken by strange people into this strange place...
"I wanted Japanese style this morning..." Komaru grumbled, but took the breakfast before going to the fridge to get a bottle of water.
...Receiving meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner is the only communication she has with the outside. Komaru hasn't seen the culprit's face, or even heard their voice. She still doesn't even know why she's imprisoned here. But regardless of how abnormal and unfair this situation is, this is her world and her daily life now, so it can't be helped. See? Sucks, right? Her story ended before it even began.
It's not like she still has hope that something...sudden will happen after all this ti-
RATTLE, RATTLE!
"...Huh?" Komaru turned her head at the sound.
She heard some more rattling.
"Huh? What? What happened?"
More rattling.
"Could it be? Did someone come to rescue me?"
With that small hope, Komaru instantly bolted towards the door. "Please, save me! I'm trapped in here! I'm begging you! Please, save me! I don't want to live this life anymore!" She begged, desperately pounding on the door as tears ran down her cheeks. "PLEASE, OPEN THE DOOR!"
Just when she was about to pound another time...
SHLINK!
"H-Huh...?" Komaru wondered as a claw-like metal tore through the door, inches away from her face.
The claw made continued to jab its way through the locked door, exposing a darkness before Komaru saw a red glow from the other side. Komaru fell on her butt in shock and fear, knowing that whoever this person was didn't plan on helping her escape.
The door gets crumpled rather easily and tossed aside by whatever is on the other side, and that whatever is revealed to be...
...A familiar black-and-white old friend!
Komaru shivered as her ahoge started quivering in fear. "N-NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
After tearing open the door, the Monokuma stared menacingly at Komaru, who tried to crawl away.
"Wait... what? What's going on?" Komaru wondered as she turned back to see the Monokuma leap towards her. "Ahhhh!"
In the nick of time, Komaru managed to dodge the strike as she rolled out the way. The Monokuma, as a result, got his claws stuck in in floorboards and tried to get unstuck.
"G-Get away from me!" Komaru cried as she ran for the now-opened door.
However, things don't get too much better for her as she saw that the entire corridor was on fire.
"Puhuhuhu...!"
Komaru froze before turning to see the Monokuma right on her tail.
"A b-bear!? A black and white bear...?" She mumbled as she continued running from the monochrome menace's wrath. After a short distance, the elevator in the corridor comes into view. "F-Finally! I can get out of this place...!"
The Monokuma is still in hot pursuit as Komaru made a dash for the elevator. She pressed the button multiple times, but sadly jabbing the emergency call button does not make an elevator come faster.
"Hurry... come on, hurry!" Komaru slowly turned to see the Monokuma closing in, but before that, the elevator finally opened. "H-Huh?"
The girl looked up to see multiple men in suits, with one of them being a tall blonde man with glasses. That one in particular pulls out some kind of megaphone, which starts charging up a blue energy. After a few seconds, the blonde man shot the energy blast at Monokuma, eradicating it on contact.
"You must be Komaru Naegi." The blonde man said as he rested the megaphone weapon on his shoulder. "Future Foundation, 14th division. Byakuya Togami."
Komaru blinked in confusion and fear before trying to scoot away. "U-Um..."
Byakuya sighed. "Don't get the wrong idea and start crying. I'm not the one who imprisoned you here. Actually...I'm here to rescue you."
"Huh!?" Komaru exclaimed in shock, widening her eyes.
"Future Foundation received intel that a Captive was imprisoned somewhere inside this building." Byakuya informed.
"Future...Foundation?" Komaru repeated, confused.
"It would appear that intel was correct. However..." Byakuya sneered at he approached the destroyed remains of the Monokuma. "What is the meaning of this? What are all these vermin Monokumas doing here?"
"Monokuma?"
"No matter how you look at it, the timing is just too perfect... Just as we show up, a riot breaks out... No, they must have known we were coming." Byakuya shook his head.
"A riot!?"
"Perhaps the intel itself was a trap to lure us here..." Byakuya made a "tsk" sound.
"U-Um!" Komaru spoke up. "Wh-What do you mean, "riot"? What's qoinq on outside? And that black and white bear thing back there, what was that!? What's going on!?"
"So you don't even know Monokuma? That kind of ignorance must be nice." Byakuya made a small chuckle. "...He was just like that the first time I met him."
"Him?" Komaru questioned.
"You really don't know anything, do you? I guess I'll tell you..." Byakuya shook his head before looking forward. "But it will have to wait. Now's no time for talk!"
"Huh!?" Komaru turned her head as well.
"Waaah!" A voice screamed in panic as a Future Foundation member got his face sliced by another Monokuma robot. In fact, most of the members seemed to be getting overwhelmed by the multiple Monokumas attacking them.
"More of them! What should I do?!" Komaru cried.
""Should"? Do you really have an option other than "run"?" Byakuya responded as he tosses Komaru another megaphone weapon. "It's a hacking gun developed by Future Foundation. It shoots program codes with electromagnetic waves. It appears to be effective against these Monokumas...though you should have discerned that from the test shot." He said as Komaru looked at the "hacking gun" in her hands. "Read the operation instructions included with the gun. You're on your own from here."
"What? What do you mean?" Komaru asked.
Byakuya aimed his hacking gun at the Monokumas. "You can run, can't you? I'm busy now. Now that I've seen these annoying bears, I can't just leave them be."
"Run... but... where would I go?" Komaru inquired.
"A member of Future Foundation is on standby at the restaurant across the street." Byakuya explained as a Monokuma robot jumped up, intending to attack, but Byakuya would just shoot it out of the air. He turned to Komaru. "Hurry up and go! You're just in the way here!"
A few drops of sweat roll down her face before Komaru nodded, running to the elevator. As the doors close, she saw Byakuya blasting the Monokuma robots with his hacking gun before the elevator doors fully shut.
