"Kitty Kat, where are you going on this fine Saturday morning?"
Merlin help me. Not this again. I froze in my tracks. James Potter, esteemed dirtbag, would not leave me alone. Ever since 3rd year, he constantly bothered me, whether at Quidditch practice or in the common room. At the time, I had been trying to sneak down to the Great Lake with Lily. Of course, he saw us.
"Hello, Potter." I sighed, turning around to look him in the eye.
"Hello Love. Where are you going? To our wedding perhaps? I'll make a wonderful husband." He replied, smirking at me. There was no denying he was handsome. But, usually, that was disguised by his unrelenting pigheadedness. And his obviously ungenuine attempts at flirting with me.
I really had no clue why he was like this. I mean, of course it got me frustrated beyond belief, but that didn't seem like enough of an instigator for his constant quips. He was always there, always bugging me, and always, always way too confident for his own good. It was like he went through life leading knob first. And that's a recipe for disaster.
My senses tingled as an imaginary egg was cracked over my head. Damn "powers".
"The day I get married to you is the day Xenophilius Lovegood finds a Crumple-Horned Snorkack." I retorted as smartly as I could before climbing out of the portrait hole. Lily was standing outside on the landing with her arms crossed.
"Potter?" She asked.
"Do I even need to answer that question?" I replied, running a hand through my now brown hair. Brown meant I was frustrated. I grabbed Lily's hand and began to tug her down the stairs. "C'mon, I need my lake day."
We reached the lake without a further disruption. I pulled off my socks and shoes. It was early October and it had yet to get cold. Actually, it was a scorching twenty-five degrees out, oddly warm for Scotland this time of year.
"I don't want this weather to go away..." I sighed, feeling the sun on my skin. I love the summer. The sun, the sand, the warmth. It was all so lovely, even just for the short months we have the weather.
"Lils, let's go swimming." I said, sitting up. After a minute of struggling with my jeans, I stood in my swimsuit. Ready to conquer the icy waters and refresh myself. I approached the water's edge and dipped just my toe in. Not too cold, but definitely not warm, either. Deciding that the temperature was merely acceptable, I started wading into the water.
All of the sudden, something pushed me into the water completely. This water was cold, my toe had lied to me. I surfaced, sputtering. I looked around for my attacker. It was a spell, cast by none other than Sirius Black. He stood by a tree with his wand in his hand, crying from laughing so hard. Needless to say, I wasn't going to take lying (or rather sitting, as it was) down
"Lily, past me my wand!" I called to her. Lily threw my wand to me with the accuracy of a well-trained beater. I'm so proud of her. Quickly, I whipped around and pointed my wand at the annoyance behind me."Expelliarmus!" I shouted, and Black's wand was knocked from his hand. "Alarte Ascendare!" I drew an arc with my wand. The next thing that happened was glorious. Sirius Black flew through the air like a bird before landing in the water with a rather nasty smack. It was our turn to laugh.
"Hey, Kat, ya ever see such an ugly bird?" Lily asked, recovering for a second.
"No, I don't believe I have Lily, maybe it was a dodo bird!" We broke into another fit of giggles. Black, meanwhile, was making his way out of the water, his clothes soaking. "Have a nice swim, Black?" I asked, grinning in a way I hoped would annoy him further.
He sneered. "Brilliant, ya know my mom's gonna kill me right? This was a new shirt."
I snickered, "Now, that doesn't seem like our problem. " I turned back to Lily, who was folding up our towels. (Using magic against other students was strictly forbidden, so getting out of there was the best course of action.) I grabbed them from her and spoke loudly so Black could hear, incase he was planning a paragraph-long comeback. Save your breath, Padfoot. "Lily, let's go. I have to practice for tryouts." She smirked slightly and looked back at our "attacker" who was currently ringing out his soaked clothing.
"Merlin, he annoys me." She muttered as we walked away.
"He and Potter are the worst bloody prats I've ever met. I can't believe Remus follows them around so loyally..." I had thought about this before. Remus was kind, smart, and a very generous person. Potter and Black were not. (They had once set the entire Owlery on a single rat. The rat was running down the main halls with a tornado of owls following it. And they got away with it, too.) How on Earth did Remus fall in with those fools? It astounded me every day.
Lily laughed, "He's like a dog or something!"
"You're absolutely right!" I cackled along with her. "I wonder why?"
