Growing Pains: Part 1

(Y/n) let out a moan happily as she put her pen down and stretched her limbs after finishing everything she needed to write in her homework and Duncan chuckled, watching her starting to relax as he finished writing his homework as well. "Thanks for helping me with the notes and helping me study, (Y/n). I really appreciate it," he said and (Y/n) smiled at him warmly as she leaned against the table and looked into his eyes with a loving gaze on her face.

"I don't usually do this, but...I know one way you can thank me and maybe even recharge us both," she said and Duncan's smile widened slightly, seeing the playful glint in her eyes. "Really? I wonder what that might be," he replied with the same playful tone in his voice that matched hers as he too leaned against the table and looked straight into her (e/c) eyes.

He watched her cheeks reddened slightly as her eyes fell towards where his lips were and she bit her lips nervously before looking up to meet his gaze once again with a shy yet playful smile on her face, "Kiss me."

"I am starting to like the sound of it already," Duncan commented with a playful grin and with that, he leaned over the table and captured her lips, giving her a long, warm and gentle kiss which slowly started to gain passion with each second passing by as (Y/n) returned his kiss with equal passion.

Before she knew it, (Y/n) found herself sitting on Duncan's lap as he held her waist and the two of them continued to kiss each other, only pulling away when they were both short of breath. Duncan looked up into (Y/n)'s eyes as she stared back into his eyes while panting softly from their kiss. And at that moment, Duncan thought about how lucky he was to have her in his life and holding her in his arms like this. After all, there is no one like her. No one can make him smile like the way she does even on a stressful day like today and there was no one else can make him feel the way she does.

"Are you feeling better now?" he heard her asked gently, her voice pulling him out from his thoughts as he looked back into her eyes, "Mm?"

Duncan watched (Y/n) smiled at him warmly and gently cupped his cheek, which he leaned into her touch instinctively without a second thought. "You didn't think I didn't notice it, did you?" she asked again, tenderly pressing a lingering kiss on his cheek. "About what?" Duncan asked back, slightly confused as he watched her look back into his eyes with a hint of worry in hers. "I might be wrong, but it's just...when you got back, you looked really tired and a bit upset. And I couldn't help, but worry a little...Did something happen?" She asked slowly with concern in her voice, soothingly cupping his cheek while Duncan's eyes widened slightly at her words, surprised that she still sensed how he was feeling upset when he got back even though he was hiding it from her because he didn't want her to worry, and yet she still noticed.

He sighed softly, pressing his forehead against (Y/n)'s who never tore her gaze away from him as he looked into her eyes and gently pulled her closer to him, enjoying the way how she fits perfectly in his arms.

"Don't worry, it's nothing. I am just a little tired more than usual that's all," Duncan assured her with a smile and (Y/n) was hesitant for a while before she smiled and kissed his cheek once again. "Alright. If you say so, Duncan. But if there's anything bothering you, please don't hide anything and just tell me, okay? I will make you feel better and help you figure out whatever you're going through...And I will teach a lesson to those who made you sad and kick their butts," she said, playfully holding her fist up with a determined expression and Duncan blinked in confusion for a second, before his mouth quirked up as he laughed softly and pressed a kiss on her temple, finding her adorable.

"What? I mean it. I will really do it," (Y/n) added, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips when she sees Duncan smiling at her words as she watched him take her hand in his and kissed her knuckles before he looked back into her eyes with a fond look in his eyes that makes her heart skip.

"I know you will," Duncan replied with a loving gaze, quickly stealing a kiss from her lips as he continued to hold her close to him and the two continued to joke around and stayed in their current position for a few more minutes until Duncan's eyes landed on the clock and noticed that it was getting late. "Oh, it's getting a bit late. What time do I need to get you home again?" he asked, making (Y/n) glance up at the clock. "Wow, you're right. How time flies fast when you're having a good time. Don't worry, I just need to get home before 10. We still have about half an hour left," she answered and Duncan smiled, tucking away a strand of her hair behind her ear.

"Still, I should probably get you home soon before ten if I want Mr. (L/n) to trust me completely," he stated, gently taking (Y/n)'s hand and making her stand while the girl pouted playfully at his words, feeling a bit disappointed that she couldn't spend more time with Duncan. "You're probably right," she agreed reluctantly, still pouting her lips unconsciously and Duncan chuckled as he took a step closer to her and held her face in his hands, making her look back into his eyes. "Hey, we'll see each other all day again tomorrow when we're at school tomorrow, remember? Besides, I'm coming to pick you up and walk you there like usual as well," he added reassuringly, pressing another kiss on her forehead and the (h/c) haired girl finally smiled, putting her hand over his. "I know. I just want to spend a little more time with you, that's all," she confessed with a small blush and Duncan's smile widened at her words as he took her hand in his. "Me too. I enjoy every second we spend together everyday," he said, pressing a kiss on the back of her hand and continued to hold her hand in his as he turned around and grabbed his jacket.

"Now, come on. Let's get you home," he said and (Y/n) smiled as she nodded, letting Duncan lead her out of his room. Before they left, the girl hugged Margaret and told her a quick goodbye in the living room while Duncan did the same and informed her that he would be walking (Y/n) home and that he would be back soon.

Soon, Duncan and (Y/n) were walking on streets in hand in hand with Duncan's jacket draped over (Y/n)'s shoulders as the two laughed and talked about random things on their way to (Y/n)'s place. Suddenly,(Y/n)'s face fell slightly as she swiftly turned around and started glancing around the neighborhood in alarm, making Duncan look at her in confusion as he glanced around the surroundings as well to check if there was something wrong and then, before turning back to her when he saw nothing. "What's wrong?"

"I...don't know.I feel like...we're being watched or something," (Y/n) slowly answered his question and then, shook her head, forcing a smile onto her face as she looked back at Duncan. "Never mind. Maybe I am just being paranoid, but I don't know what's wrong with me lately. I've been getting these feelings that something is about to happen," she said as the two of them started walking together again still in hand in hand and not too long after, (Y/n)'s house started to come into their view.

"Why do you think that way?" Duncan asked curiously, gently giving her hand a squeeze to reassure her which (Y/n) responded with a small smile and squeezed his hand back. "I don't know...It's kind of like a gut feeling that I can't shake it off and I guess, it kinda makes me a little worried," she explained and Duncan stopped walking once again as he reached out to take both of her hands and turned her back to him. "Hey, look at me," he called softly, making (Y/n) look back into his eyes.

"Nothing is going to happen to you, (Y/n), trust me on that. Because as long as I'm here, I'm not going to let anything happen to you. And I won't let anyone or anything take you away from me either. I'll keep you safe, I promise," he reassured with a hint of seriousness in his voice and (Y/n) smiled, knowing that when Duncan gives a promise, he always keeps it.

With a wide smile on her face, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Duncan's waist as she rested her head against his chest and held him tight, "I know you will."

At first, Duncan was a bit rigid because he wasn't expecting to get a hug from her at that moment, but not a second or two later, (Y/n) felt his posture quickly relaxed as he smiled and hugged her back. The two of them stayed like that for a while, just enjoying each other's company in a comfortable silence before they let each other go. "I should probably head in then. I'll see you tomorrow?" (Y/n) asked, taking Duncan's jacket off of her shoulders as she gave it back to him with a shy smile on her face, "Thanks for lending me your jacket by the way."

"No problem. And yea, I'll see you tomorrow, (N/n)," Duncan replied and he felt his heart skipped a beat as he watched (Y/n) tiptoed and gave him a quick kiss on his lips. "Goodnight," he heard her whispered softly and watched her started to walk away with a sweet smile on her face as Duncan slowly let her hand go. "Goodnight," he called back dreamily with a fond smile on his face, watching her wave at him one last time before she went into the house.

And after making sure that she was safely inside her house, a sigh of relief escaped from his lips as he started walking his way back towards his home as well.

Meanwhile, a pair of glowing eyes watched Duncan and (Y/n) say goodnight to each other and part their ways from the shadows, making sure to keep itself hidden away from Duncan's keen kaiju senses as it watched him walk away.

At first, it merely followed Duncan from the desert to settle the score, but now, it has changed its mind as its eyes have landed on a much better target. And it continued to stay hidden in the shadows and watched the (h/c) haired girl move around the house through the windows, waiting for the perfect chance to strike.

Back With Our Fire Breather,

Duncan was still on his way back to his house, lost in his thoughts when he stumbled upon a scene that made him do a double-take at what he saw.

"Kenny?!"

Leo was escorting an injured Kenny who looked pretty beaten up alone on the streets, helping Kenny stand with one arm over his shoulders.

Instantly becoming worried, Duncan immediately went to help Leo with helping Kenny stand just as the two turned their attention to him. "Oh...Hey, Duncan," Kenny greeted solemnly, letting Duncan put his other arm over his shoulder.

"What happened to you, Kenny? Who did this to you?" Duncan asked worriedly narrowing his eyes. "It's...a long story, man," Kenny replied weakly with a groan which only concerned Duncan even more. "Let's get him to my place first and patch him up, first. It's only a little far from here. We can talk when we get there," Leo suggested and Duncan nodded as the three of them started heading towards Leo's place.

A minute or two later, they finally reached to Leo's house and Duncan carried Kenny inside as Leo opened the door for them and let them inside. "Alright. Stay here, I'll go get some ice pack for Ken in the kitchen," Leo said and quickly disappeared into the kitchen before they could say anything.

Duncan carefully helped Kenny sit on the sofa and gave Kenny some space as they waited for Leo who came back after a minute or two later with an ice pack wrapped in a thin towel in his hand, "Here, put this on your cheek, Kenny."

"Thanks, Leo," Kenny replied, giving Leo a grateful smile as he took the ice pack and pressed it against his cheek, letting out a small groan in pain. "So, what happened to you, guys?" Duncan asked again with concern flashing in his eyes and Leo turned his attention to him as he started to explain. "Well, long story short, I found Kenny being beaten up by some guys while I was on my way back from the store so. I beat them back. And Kenny said he can't go back to his house tonight so, I was bringing him back to my place when we met you. Anyway, make yourself at home, you both. I am gonna go clean up the guest room real quick and be right back," he said and turned to leave while rolling his sleeves up.

"Sorry to trouble you, bro," Kenny apologized, making Leo turn his attention back to him. "Hey, I told you we're friends, remember? There's nothing to apologize for. Now put that ice pack on your cheek and stay there for a while. I'll be right back," he said and once again, he disappeared somewhere back into his house, leaving Duncan and Kenny alone.

"So...why can't you go back to your place? Did something happen?" Duncan asked with concern flashing in his eyes when he saw Kenny still wearing a small frown on his face and a few moments of silence passed by again before he eventually spoke.

"...My dad's back in town," Kenny started slowly and Duncan's curiosity immediately grew at those words as his mind immediately recalled the last time he visited Kenny's home and their playful conversation about his dad being a spy.

"Isn't that...great?" Duncan asked hesitantly though he doubted that it was entirely a great thing, judging by the look on Kenny's face.

"It usually is, but, he, umm...kinda got drunk and...well, we kinda had this huge fight that didn't end up so well," he explained slowly and a frown started to appear on Duncan's face as well when a thought of what might actually have happened crossed his mind.

"Wait...Kenny, he...he didn't beat you or anything...did he?" he asked slowly, a part of him hoping he was wrong but when Kenny's frown deepened, Duncan knew for sure that his guess was close and that something definitely did happen between Kenny and his dad.

"He was just drunk...and it was just a few punches here and there...No big deal," Kenny shrugged nonchalantly as if it didn't bother him which caused Duncan to grow even more worried at the way he was acting.

"I don't understand. How come you're not upset by it? How often does this happen to you?" Duncan asked, sitting down on a chair next to Kenny who was still avoiding eye contact with him by hanging his side. "Only when he's drunk. When he's sober again, he's all sorry and sometimes, even takes me to the hospital. And...I don't know, bro...I'm just letting it go, you know? Like dying or something," Kenny answered his question gloomily without looking up and Duncan paused, seeing how it's really gotten to Kenny that he looked like he was tired of living and doesn't care whatever happens to him anymore.

"Have you ever thought about-"

"About dying? A lot. I don't know. Who cares, right?" Kenny cut him off with a dry smile as he finally looked up at him, his eyes almost looking lifeless. And Duncan made up his mind to make sure he was going to get rid of whatever dangerous thoughts Kenny was having in his mind and that he was alright again before he leaves.

"Ken, listen to me. Don't kill yourself, okay?"

"Why not? I mean, really. Why not?"

"Because we care, Kenny. We're friends. I care, Leo cares and so does (Y/n) and Isabel. And I don't want you to, okay? Is that enough for now?" Duncan stated firmly and yet gently, putting a hand on Kenny's shoulder as he looked in the eyes and Kenny was silent for a while before he sighed and finally nodded, giving Duncan a small smile. "Yeah, okay," he said and Duncan smiled back, giving his shoulder a small squeeze before he let him go.

Then, Leo came back into the room, getting Kenny and Duncan's attention instantly. "Hey, just wanted to let you know that I'm all done cleaning up, so, you can-" Leo didn't get a chance to finish his sentence when the door bell rang and suddenly, there was someone banging on the door. "Huh? Who could it be at this hour? Coming!" Leo shouted as he went to open the door.

Duncan and Kenny shared a look with each other in question before following Leo to the door and there, standing at the door with Leo was Jenna who was panting heavily as she tried to recover her breathe with her hands on her knees.

"Sorry to...bother...you at this hour, Leo...But, is Duncan here?" she asked, still breathing heavily through heavy pants. Before Leo got the chance to answer her question, Jenna's eyes met with Duncan's and Duncan watched confused as Jenna immediately rushed up towards him, "Duncan, quick, you have to come with me now!"

"Whoa. Calm down, Jenna. What's wrong? Tell me what happened," Duncan said, trying to calm her down and Jenna finally caught her breathe as she looked at Duncan in the eyes, "It's (Y/n). S-She's gone!!" she exclaimed and Duncan's eyes widened with shock at what she said as he bolted out of the house and immediately started racing towards (Y/n)'s place. Leo and Jenna called after him, but Duncan couldn't hear them as he continued to run, his mind only thinking about one thing, (Y/n).

Siren blaring, the police cars rushed down the streets beside him and Duncan's eyes widened with fear when he sees where they were stopping.

"(Y/N)!!" He yelled as he picked up his pace and continued to run, desperately hoping that the (h/c) haired girl was there and she was alright. But to Duncan's horror, he found (Y/n)'s house half-demolished as he got nearer with no sign of (Y/n) everywhere he looked. Leo, Kenny and Jenna finally caught up with him as he stood a few meters away from (Y/n)'s house and Margaret who was talking with the police also noticed her son's presence as she started walking towards him, calling his name. But Duncan didn't hear her or his friends calling him as his attention has been captured by something else.

A scent.

A scent that was awfully familiar and didn't belong here in this city for one bit.

And Duncan knew exactly at that moment what has taken her away.
