A few days before Halloween, the 118 was called to a cemetery where two workers were digging up and were buried under ground.

"Sir, can you tell me what happened down there?" Bobby asked the man who got saved, the team now all around them.

"Me and Stavros were... digging a plot... when we got pulled in." The man said in between small coughs. "Like the grave was digging itself."

"A sinkhole." Chim said as he pointed with the lantern. "The quake shifted everything around down there. We're all basically walking around on eggshells and bubble wrap. See it?" 

"How long ago did this happen?"

"I don't know. Half an hour, maybe?"

"Let's move, guys." Bobby said and they started walking towards the hole.

When they arrived Buck almost slipped into the hole but Kate catched him.

"Whoa."

"Easy. This whole side is like quicksand. I don't want you to fall in there and drag ten tons of loose soil on top of yourself and our friend down there." Bobby said.

"He's been breathing dirt for half an hour, Cap." Buck said.

"Well, maybe not."

"What are you thinking?" Buck asked.

"Eggshells and bubble wrap."

"Air pockets." Kate and Eddie said at the same time.

"Yeah, we just have to find where they are." Bobby said.

"Whoa, tho-those aren't..." Buck asked but Bobby cut him off.

"Coffins and corpses. That's where the air pokets are."

"That's messed up." Buck said confused.

"Oh, hello, Stavros." Bobby said as the little machine detected movement. "All right, shovels and buckets. Let's go."

They start digging with shovels and buckets as Bobby ordered. While digging, the platform where Chim and Bobby were standing, shifts a little and Hen decided to use the backhoe loader on her own. They found the coffin where Stavros was under and managed to get him out of there safely. On the way back, Buck, Kate and Hen were walking back to the truck.

"Now, that was strictly badass." Buck said.

"Yeah, that was something I never thought we'd have to use." Kate said with a proud smile towards Hen.

 "You literally pulled a man from a grave." Buck said.

Hen chuckled and said. "We did. I just hope they understand"

"Hope who understands?" Kate asked, confused.

"The spirits we disturbed." Hen said with a serious look and started walking faster to the truck as the twins stayed behind. "I don't need that mess following me home."

They both looked at each other with concerned and confused looks on their faces before looking back as the backhoe loader fell into the hole and they both jump.

On their next shift, they got called to a cliff where a cyclist had fallen.

"The old trail should be right up there. Park warden said they closed it down a few years back." Kate, Eddie and Buck listened to Bobby as they took their backpacks with harnesses. "Guess every once in a while they still get a thrill-seeker who ignores the signs."

"They haven't been able to ping the phone?" Eddie asked as the team started walking through the trail.

"Yeah. No contact since the call was dropped."

They arrived at the cliff itself.

"Cap." Eddie called out as he saw a phone stick and started walking towards it, the whole team behind.

"Guess this is where he went over." Kate said.

"All right, everybody gear up. Hen, Chimney, get the winch and the guidelines. Prep the basket just in case. I'm gonna radio Aerial Recon, have 'em on stand by." Bobby ordered as Eddie, Kate and Buck started preparing the harnesses to go down the cliff.

"Copy that." Chim said as he and Hen started walking back to the ambulance.

"This is Captain Bobby Nash. T-118. Aerial Recon to Abalone Cove in Palos Verdes." Bobby said into his radio.

"Copy that, T-118." They heard a woman through the radio.

As the trio got settled, they start going down. As they got down, they heard Bobby through the radio.

"Buck, Eddie, Kate, you guys see anything down there?"

"No. Just a million dollar view." Buck said into his radio.

"Cap. Found something." Kate said.

"Is it our hiker?"

"A hiker." Eddie said into his radio as they bent down to see a skeleton. "Don't think it's the one we came looking for. It's human remains, Cap. Skeletal remains."

"All right. Well, flag it but don't disturb it. We'll call it in."

"Unless..." Buck said as he grabbed a phone.

Eddie and Kate chuckled as Eddie says "What, you think a ghost called 911?"

"He's just scared because Hen said we disturbed ghosts from the cemetery last night." Kate said as Eddie chuckled.

"I'm just saying." Buck said but they heard a male voice in distance.

"Help."

"Okay. So, no ghost." Eddie said and they started walking towards the voice.

"What's going on down there, guys?" They heard Bobby.

"Yeah, I think we heard something, Cap." Buck said.

"Easy, buddy. We're here." Kate reassured as they found the man.

"Hey, Cap, we got a live one." Buck said into his radio.

"Can you tell me your name?" Eddie asked.

"Ian."

"Ian, okay. We're gonna get you out of here, okay?" Eddie said.

"My le-leg is broken." Ian said as he groaned in pain.

"All right, guys, we're gonna send you a basket down to you." They heard Bobby.

"Copy that, Cap." Kate said.

"How'd you find me?" Ian asked.

"I wasn't easy. You weren't on long enough for them to ping your phone." Buck said.

"On with who?" Ian asked as Kate had a confused expression.

"With, uh, with 911."

"I dropped my phone when I went over." Ian said. "I didn't call 911."

The trio looked at each other with confused and surprised expressions.

Before their next shift, Eddie had gone to a school for Christopher to go. Kate was watching TV upstairs on the firehouse. One of her hands was holding the remote while she looked for something to watch and the other was holding a bowl of popcorn, legs chilling on the small coffee table, when she heard a familiar pair of boots. She saw Eddie and smiled but she looked at his expression which switched her mood.

"Hey." Eddie greeted as he sat down next to her.

"Hey. What's going on?" She asked as she turned the TV off.

He sighed and said. "Remember I told you I was gonna go to that school downtown?" She nodded and let him continue. "Well, it's great." She smiled a little, but she knew that that was not enough.

"But...?" She asked waiting for more.

He sighed again and took a couple of popcorn from the bowl. "But, they need to see Shannon first."

Shannon was (or so Kate thought she was) Eddie's ex-wife. "Well, that's not a problem, is it? You probably just need the copy of the custody agreement."

"There isn't one."

"What do you mean?" Kate asked confused, her lips now tugged into a line.

Eddie waited a few seconds to answer as he was scared of what her reaction wasgoing to be. "We're still married." 

Her calm face was quickly replaced by a surprised face as she raised both eyebrows. She definitely didn't expect that. She didn't know what to say. Something different with those three words made her feel weird.

"Oh..." Was all she could say before the bells rang.

Their call was at a "haunted" maze where bats suddenly came out of nowhere and "attacked" the people at the maze.

"Do we even know if anybody was bitten?" Bobby asked to an employee dressed as a vampire.

"You mean in like a Nosferatu, Count Whatever kind of way?"

"Listen, something like ten percent of bats are rabies carriers. If I got guys in there foaming at the mouth, I need to know." Hen stated.

"I don't think. I mean, most injuries happened in the stampede out." The employee said. Hen nodded and walks away.

"Anybody left inside?"

"A few stragglers, maybe. But we got cast in there still trapped in their rings."

"Kate, Buck, Eddie, head around back, see if you can see the power situation." Bobby ordered the trio. "We can't save who we can't see."

"On it, Cap."

The trio managed to get the power back up. They managed to take a man out who had hit his head.

The next day was Halloween. Oh, Kate loved Halloween. She loved dressing up as her favourite characters, she loved the candy, she loved the spooky environment. This year was diferrent for her. Chris and Eddie had invited her and Buck to go trick-or-treating, but Buck couldn't go because he was moving from Abby's place. Eddie, Chris and Carla were waiting for her when Eddie appeared with a costume. He was wearing military kind of pants, a muscular shirt and an eye patch. Carla laughed.

"Are you kind of pirate?"

"Snake Plissken?" Eddie said as he took  a fake gun out of his pocket. "Escape from New York? Kurt Russell? John Carpenter's masterpiece?"

"Or right, right. Well, I prefer Tango & Cash myself but you look cute, so I approve." Carla joked. "Though I'm disappointed that costume didn't come with a smile."

"I had a fight with Shannon. When I asked her to help with Christopher and the school, she asked to see Christopher first."

"And you said no? Don't you want her to get back in your life?" Carla asked.

He didn't know how to answer that. He didn't want Chris to see her, but maybe he should've. He knew that. Shannon was Christopher's mother, she's got the right to see him. In the mixture of his thoughts, one specific memory came up to his mind. The one when Kate surprised the boys with cookies at their house. The way she cared about him because of the rude man they saved. The way she received and loved Christopher's drawing. The way she could brighten his days. The way she... Before he could go on with his thoughts, he heard a knock on the door. He walked towards it to receive Kate. Carla watched the duo with a smirk on her face. She knew. She knew that Eddie didn't want his wife back...

"Hey! Happy Halloween!" He greeted as he opened the door.

"Hey! Ooh Snake Plissken. Nice!" She said. She was wearing an Eleven from Stranger Things costume. Her hair was in a mini ponytail like the character has.

He smiled and she walked in with a big smile as well. 

"Hey, Carla!" She said as the older woman opened her arms for a hug.

"Hey, Katie." They pulled away. "I wouldn't have guessed anything else from your costume." She joked and Kate laughed.

The adults then turned around and saw Chris wearing a Wolverine costume and growling.

"Hi, Katie." Chris growled.

Kate laughed and said "Hey, Wolverine." 

"You know what, you're so cute, I could just rip you to shreds." Carla said.

Eddie walked towards him and made growling sounds with him as well. Kate laughed at the two. Her adoring eyes staring at the two while memories of both Diaz's boys keep appearing on her mind. She opened her eyes wide in realization. Am I catching feelings from a married man? She thought. She snapped out of her thoughts when the boys started walking to the car and so did Carla, but Kate stopped her by grabbing her hand.

Carla turned around with a smirk on her face "I know, girl." 

"No. No. No. I..." Kate started but Carla cut her off.

"Come on, their waiting for us." Carla said and they started walking towards the car.

They then, got out to start Trick-or-Treating.

The next day, Eddie was waiting for Shannon to come out of her appointment with the school while looking at the pictures of the night they had that Kate took and sent him. He saw all of them. His adoring eyes staring at a smiley Kate and a happy Chris. On his mind, the night came up as a beautiful memory. He didn't know what he felt about Kate, but he knew that she was special to him. She meant a lot to him. He snapped out of his thoughs when he saw Shannon coming out of the school's front door. He walked towards her and they started talking about the appointment. They reached her car. She tried to get in but he closed the door. They stared into each other's eyes for a moment and then, she leaned in closer to him to press a kiss on his lips.

What am I doing? He thought while still kissing her. 

They pulled away from each other. You're not her... That thought was unsuccessful because he leaned closer to her to press another kiss.

While kissing her, he thought about Kate and Chris, but something was not letting him pull away from Shannon. Something familiar won't let him.
