Dosed; Season 2 Ep.6

Kate, Eddie, Buck and Chimney were helping Maddie move into her new apartment. A week ago, Kate moved to her new apartment too, but she didn't need help because the furniture was already included. Kate and Maddie were finishing putting some books on the office shelf when they heard Chimney's voice and started going downstairs.

"Okay. You've officially reached Fort Knox-level security."

"Oh, you think it's too much?" Maddie asked.

"No, Mads. Oh, maybe you should also get a dog to guard the house." Kate joked as she stood next to Chim who was now chuckling as well as Maddie.

"I mean, three motion sensors in the living room? Maybe if you're trying to keep Tom Cruise from getting his hands on your NOC list." Kate chuckled and walked towards the front door where Eddie and Buck were trying to get in with the new sofa as Maddie stopped walking downstairs. "Mission: Impossible. No?"

"Sorry, haven't seen it." Maddie said and walked towards the front door as well.

"Travesty." Chim muttered.

"Maybe we pop the hinges off the door." Eddie suggested as Kate raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"Or we use the Jaws of Life." Buck said.

"No, no, no. It has to fit. We measured it twice." Maddie said. "Can't you guys just, you know, turn it around the other way?"

"And then the pizza would slide off." Buck said to her with a serious stare.

"You have pizza on her new sofa?" Kate asked as she handed the boxes of pizza to Maddie who walked inside again to finish learning how to use the security cameras.

"It's on the plastic." Buck yelled. Kate looked at him with the 'seriously, Buck?' and the trio tried to get in again.

"All right, pivot." Eddie said and they started lifting the sofa.

"Lift with your legs." Kate said and they got inside again.

Chim finished to help Maddie with the security system and Maddie spoke up when Kate, Eddie and Buck put the sofa on the ground. "Hey, thank you, guys, for helping me on your day off."

"Don't worry about it." Eddie said as he got up. "Plates?" He asked.

"Countertop." Maddie said and handed him the pizza boxes. "Kitchen."

"Beer?" Chim asked.

"Uh, also kitchen, fridge." Maddie answered.

"Clever." Chim said as he walked into the kitchen.

The twins made their way to their older sister and she spoke up. "He is so cute."

"Yeah." Kate said and smiled softly as she looked at the kitchen.

"He gets that a lot. Uh, you should meet his kid, though." Buck said.

"Wait, Chimney has a kid?" Maddie asked confused.

"No, we-we thought you meant..." Buck started before Maddie walked into the kitchen.

The twins looked at each other with confused faces. "Chimney?" They both asked at the same time.

-----------------------------------------

The next day, the 118 got a call to a baseball field where a news helicopter had fallen but the engine was still turned on.

"When the pilot radioed they were having mechanical trouble. Looks like he tried to put it down in the field over there." Athena, who had also made her way along with other police officers, yelled due to the loud noise of the helicopter's propellers.

"Yeah, it got close." Bobby yelled sarcastically.

"Yeah, not close enough. Get down people, move." Athena yelled to Bobby and then to the people around.

"All right, Diaz, Buckleys, you're gonna fan out, go behind those bleachers." Bobby instructed. "Eddie, after we get the people out, you think you can kill that engine?"

"Think so, I'm just worried about the dynamic rollover." Eddie said.

"The dynamic what?" Buck asked from behind.

"We change the weight radio by pulling people out, whole thing could tip over, rotors could snap off." Eddie explained.

"And then flying rocks are gonna be the least of our problems." Buck said.

"All right, visors down. Let's go!" Bobby ordered.

They went behind the bleachers. They saw a woman inside.

"Buck, get her out of there." Kate ordered.

"On it." Buck said to Kate. "Put your arms around me." Buck said to the woman and she did so. "Yes, all right here we go."

"Okay." The red-head woman said but the helicopter moved and she escaped from Buck's arms. "Aah!" She screamed.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!" Buck shouted.

"Got to keep from rolling!" Eddie yelled.

Buck managed to take the woman out. On the other hand, Eddie had made his way into the helicopter after taking the man out. He nodded to Kate when he turned the engine off. They transported the man to the hospital. Buck and Hen were still checking Taylor Kelly, the news reporter, out. Kate, Eddie and Bobby were getting ready to get back to the station and they overheard Buck and Taylor's awkward conversation with confused faces. After checking Taylor out, they got her to the hospital and got back to the station.

-----------------------------------

Eddie and Kate were working out and talking in the station's gym zone. Buck was hosing the department's car when they heard Taylor Kelly's voice.

"We need to capture it all."

"Oh, look who's here." Kate said to Eddie with a not amused expression on her face. She sighed.

"Realife inside a firehouse."

"Excuse me." Bobby said as he walked towards Taylor and her cameraman.

"Captain Nash. I'm Taylor Kelly. We met the other day when..." Taylor started but Bobby cut her off.

"I know who you are. I just don't understand what you're doing here. Please don't film in here."

"Uh, why not?" Taylor asked.

"Because it's- it's rude." Bobby said, trying to take the camera away.

"Oh. They didn't call you yet." Taylor said. Kate and Eddie looked at each other with confused expressions.

"Who?" Bobby asked.

"Captain, Chief's office on the line." A firefighter said and Bobby went upstairs.

"Uh, Taylor Kelly?" Buck asked from behind her. "What are you doing here?"

"You can just call me Taylor. Uh, how was your drive in?" Taylor asked. "Did you miss me?"

"My morning definitely wasn't the same without you." Buck said with a small smirk on his face.

Eddie and Kate noticed the smirking and chuckling from both Buck and Kelly so Eddie decided to speak up from the gym zone. "Hey, how you feeling?"

"Any side effects after the crash?" Kate asked as they made their way to the pair.

"I'm great. Thanks to all of you." Taylor said and Chim and Hen made their way towards them all. "Which is why I'm here. You guys were so amazing. I wanna do a story on this firehouse and on the heroes who work here." Kate crossed her arms on her chest as she felt the camera filming her too much.

"Yeah, but you do traffic." Chim said.

"I'm not quite ready to go back in the sky, so I thought I'd try my hand at telling a story from the ground." Taylor said.

"And use your newfound fame to put your face in front of the camera." Hen said after chuckling.

"That too."

"Smart girl."

"I can't wait to interview all of you. I want to know why you chose this job, the crazy things you've seen, what it's like to face death." Taylor said and the camera went around to show every face. "I mean, Howie, you almost died, right?"

"Actually, nobody calls me that. It's Chimney." Chim said.

"I bet there's a story there."

"Not one you can tell on TV." Hen said from behind.

"Well, you must have really impressed the chief. He said to give you whatever access you need." Bobby said as he made his way back again. Kate didn't like that idea and so didn't Bobby. A complete stranger getting access to their private life...

"Don't worry, Captain Nash, you're story's in good hands." Taylor stated. "I'm gonna make you all famous."

----------------------------------------------

"Tell us about all this." Taylor said due to the table full of food.

"Oh. This table is all about the love." Chim said. "It's uh, tokens of appreciation from the people we serve. Baked goods are big, and cards, we love the cards." The camera was going around the table as Chim spoke.

"Mmm, and carbs." Buck said as he took the last fudge brownie that Kate, Eddie and Hen had taken a few minutes ago.

"Kate, could we have a few minutes with you?" Taylor asked Kate who was getting a glass of water but the bells rang.

"Thank you." Kate muttered as she looked up.

----------------------------------------------

That call was at a eating food contest.

"I was told there's a man here who's choking to death." Bobby said to the old lady that called 911.

"No, uh, Gregory says he doesn't want any help now." The woman said.

"Okay, excuse me, ma'am." Bobby said as he and the rest of the team (including Taylor and her camera man) started making their way to the man.

"Wonder how many he ate. Joey Chestnut scarfed down 74 hot dogs in ten minutes at last years Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest." Buck comented.

"Excuse me, sir, are you refusing care?" Bobby yell-asked the man.

He shock his hand in a 'no'. They heard a hiss from the ground and it's an iguana. Chim got scared by the iguana and jumped as the whole 118 chuckled.

"Ah, jeez."

"Whoa."

"Cute. That thing yours?"

"That's Claude. He's the grand prize." The woman said.

"People are competing for an iguana?" Kate asked with confusion.

The man fell to the ground which made the team (and Taylor) make their way to him.

"Whoa. Get 'em in. Get 'em in. Give us some room." Bobby said to the people around. He turned to Taylor and spoke. "That means you guys, too. Give us some room. Back up."

"Kate, get these chairs out of here." Chim said and with a nod Kate started taking the chairs out.

Taylor walked towards her. "What are you doing now, Kate?"

Kate looked up with a surprised face. "Umm, I'm taking these chairs away to give them room,  something that Cap also told you to do, so, please, back up a little." She said and motioned them to back off.

Annoyed, Taylor gave up on Kate and walked to the old woman. "What was this, like, a pepper eating contest?" She asked.

"No. Protein." The woman said and just like magic, bugs started coming out of the man's mouth.

"Oh! Whoa."

"Locusts?!" Hen exclaimed.

"No, they're actually crickets." The woman said. Along with her team, Kate covered her face with her hands. "We allowed anything that Claude would eat. We thought it might be fun."

"Yeah, real fun." Kate muttered sarcastically.

The man coded and they started doing compressions. He couldn't get any air because his throat was blocked by a snail. He, then, is finally able to breathe. They get him transported.

----------------------------------------------

The next break between calls, Taylor was still trying to get information from Kate and Bobby, but neither of them wanted to talk to the intruder. They were called to attend an emergency at the beach where a man couldn't move himself from doing a muscular pose. Of course Taylor came along and that made Kate stay on the sidelines of the group.

"LAFD. Clear a path." Bobby instructed as they got inside a small field where a muscle competition was happening.

"What the hell?" The camera man asked in confusion as he saw the man struggling.

"Keep filming." Taylor said.

"Looks like extreme hyponatremia." Buck said.

"Say what?" The camera man, who was standing next to Kate, asked.

"He's got a charley horse." Hen explained.

"He is a charley horse." Chim said.

"What's your name?" Bobby asked.

"Charlie." He answered.

"Okay, Charlie, when was the last time you had any fluids?" Bobby asked.

"Yesterday afternoon."

"Flushed yourself out for the competition today?" Chim asked.

"And for the weigh-ins, to make the veins pop."

"Well, you are definitely poping."

"All right, Charlie, your potassium and your sodium have bottomed out and that's why you're seizing up." Bobby explained. "Now, before we start replenishing your electrolytes, you gotta answer honestly: are you dosing?"

The curiosity made the camera man film closer to Kate which made her feel uncomfortable and made Eddie to look at the cameraman.

"N-No steroids, if that's what you mean. I'm totally clean." Charlie said.

"Okay, you two need to back off." Bobby said as he understood both Kate and Charlie's discomfort. "Get that camera out, please."

"Cap needs room to work." Eddie said as he stepped in, opening his arms so they backed off.

"I'm working, too." Taylor protested.

"You can work further back." Eddie snapped which made Kate chuckle and smirk to herself. When he got back, Kate looked at him and mouthed 'thank you'. Eddie smiles.

"Charlie, I just need you to know that if you're not being straight with me, and we start giving you saline and you have been dosing, you kidneys could start to fail, okay?" Bobby warned.

"I'm on steroids." Charlie admited.

"Okay, that's better. Are you taking anything else?"

"I took a diuretic last night to shed some water weight."

"That explains his low blood pressure. 70/40." Hen said.

"All right, let's get him trasported." Bobby instructed.

They managed to transport Charlie.

"Am I- Am I gonna be okay?" Charlie asked.

"We're gonna get you through the day." Bobby said.

----------------------------------------------

On their next call, they were called to a beauty kids contest. The way there was pretty talkative.

"Man. Allergies are going crazy today." Eddie said while rubbing his eyes.

"You, too, uh?" Kate said.

"The index wasn't elevated this morning. Think it's a new kind?" Buck asked.

"New kind of what?" Eddie asked back, not understanding what Buck was saying.

"Of pollen."

"A new kind of pollen?" Chim asked confused.

"You're not feeling this, Chim?" Kate asked, looking at herself.

"No, I do not."

"I can see the pollen." Eddie said staring into the air.

"I can hear it." Buck said and Kate's expression was replaced by a shocked and surprised expression.

They arrived at the building where they were called to. Chimney was at the front of the group leading inside, Kate and Eddie behind. The two exchanged suspicious and scared looks when they saw the door opening on its own after entering.

"How did they open by themselves?" Kate muttered to Eddie.

"I have no idea." Eddie muttered back.

They saw Athena, who was cuffing a woman.

"This is ridiculous." The woman said. "She's the one who cheated. She and her demon seed. That little girl is 11 if she's a day. I want to see birth certificate."

"Ma'am, calm down, or I'll charge you with resisting arrest, too." Athena warned. Chimney made his way and the others stayed far behind him.

"For what? This was self-defense. My ex-husband's a lawyer."

"Oh, good. 'Cause I'm-a need you to contact him to come and pick up your daughter. Victim's over there." Athena said, motioning the direction with her head as Chim made his way to the victim.

While Chim was taking care of the victim, Kate, Eddie and Buck were admiring the height of the little girls when they hear Chim's voice, but choose to ignore him. "Hey! Buckleys, Diaz! Let's go."

"Did this beauty queen shrink, or are we suddenly giants?" Buck asked amazed as the other two gasp in amazement.

The woman who attacked the victim was complaining about what had happened, but the only thing they heard was "Can I get my shoe back?"

"Can someone please just bring me the rest of my gear?" They heard Chim's voice.

"I think he means you, guys." Athena said to the trio who were staring down at the little girls.

The three looked back up at her and Buck said with a smile "Hey, Athena. They're, like, the tiniest ladies I've ever seen. Teeny-tiny."

"Excuse me?" Athena asked in confusion.

"So tiny." Kate and Eddie whispered at the same time, which made them look at one another with shocked faces.

"Henrietta!" Athena called Hen who was staring at herself in the hallway mirror.

Hen snapped out of her thoughts to look at the older woman. "'Thena!" She walked towards them with a smile and sniffed the air. "Oh, 'Thena, you smell like love."

"Chimney! Need you over here." Athena called.

Kate was playing with her fingers while Eddie was using the medical lantern (that is supposed to examine eyes and mouths) to examine ballons. Hen and Buck were staring at each other.

"727-L-30, requesting immediate R.A backup at Beverly Wilton Hotel, Pacific Ballroom." Athena said into her radio.

"Where the hell is my lan..." Chim started before Athena cut him off.

"We got a problem here. You guys be tripping."

"What?" Chim asked confused before clapping his hands and gaining attention from his best friends. "Guys, look at me. Do you know where you are?"

"We're everywhere, man." Eddie said appering from behind the ballons and scaring the hell out of Kate.

"Jesus!"

"They're on drugs." Athena said.

Hen started laughing and wrapped her arms around Chim, fiding everything hilarious.

"Okay, okay. Oh. Oh, my God. It's the brownies." Chim said in realization.

"Brownies?" Athena asked confused once more.

"We got a new batch today. We've been getting a lot of stuff lately, especially since the earthquake." Chim explained.

"You guys eat that stuff? We just throw that stuff right in the trash." Athena said.

"We're firefighters. Everybody loves us."

"Oh..." Athena said in disbelief.

"Hey! Get your dirty hands off of me." Kate warned the police officer who was handcuffing her.

"Don't you touch her." Eddie warned with a serious look that was replaced by sobs when he saw Athena walking towards them. "What's going on? I don't like this." He sobbed even more when another police officer handcuffed him as well.

"Ooh, you made him cry." Buck said and Kate leaned her head on Eddie's shoulder to try to comfort him and stared at Athena.

"All right, just breathe, okay? You're gonna be okay. All right? Somebody dosed you with an hallucinogen. We don't want you to hurt yourself or anyone else." Athena reassured.

"Yeah. I like that idea." Eddie said before sighing.

"'Thena, your head is beating like your heart." Hen said.

"Is it?"

 ----------------------------------------------

"Did everything kinda sparkle?" Eddie asked.

"Uh, I'd say it was more glistening, like the whole world was covered in dew." Hen said.

"You think this is why people go to Burning Man?"

"We see them everyday on the streets of Los Angeles, running into burning buildings, pulling people out from wrecked cars and collapsing high-rises and even saving this reporter from a helicopter that spun out of control." They heard Taylor's voice on the TV. Kate was sitting between Eddie and Buck with a bowl of popcorn so everyone could reach it.

"Where's Cap?" Eddie asked.

"He's not watching with us?"

"No, said he had other things to do." Kate said.

"I think his words were he'd rather do anything than this." Hen said.

"They are the brave men and women of the Los Angeles Fire Department, and it was my own brush with death that inspired me to share their story so you can all see what it takes and what it means to be one of them." Taylor continued on the TV.
