Chapter 4 - Noticing Change

Daydream still didn't like Chaz, but since she suddenly bumped into him at this time, well, it happened and may as well make the best of it. It was her fifth time leaving the house and being around people. It wasn't so bad after all. Throughout her walks, she had started to notice things around her. Each tree she passed had a different way it was growing, yes they were all growing upwards. But some branched out more than others, or had leaves, or had fruit growing on them. Anyways back to Chaz.
"Um no thank you very much, I'm not a bookish", Chaz held his head high and walked by. Well, I tried, Daydream thought. I can't judge for what he decided to do and I'm not going to let that affect me. Her bundle of books now firmly in her hands, she walked back home to read them. Who needs this 'school' anyways?

The next morning while she painfully walked past Chaz's house, his Dad said something to her that made he reconsider her whole lifeeeeeee.
"I'm going to enrol you in the school Chaz goes to", he said.
"I still have no IDEA what this school is, so if you could kindly explain to me what it is, then talk to my mum, then maybe I would have some vibe at what you're getting at", Daydream surprised herself at saying these words. She hadn't really meant for them to come across as forceful. She immediately regretted it.
"Actually, what is school?" Daydream asked with her head at the side, but she needed to listen to this. Chaz rolled his eyes in boredom. However, this morning he didn't have his phone.
"It's a place where you learn and get an education for future use", His Dad explained.
"Do they have books there? Or more iPads and phones like your son uses most of the time? I don't want to be in a place where something else is doing all the work for me", Daydream explained back.
"Textbooks are books", His Dad was having a hard time comprehending this girl. So first she doesn't want to go to school, yet she knows all about technology, but she doesn't want to use the technology so she reads books. "Do you do anything else other than read books?", he asked inquisitively.
"What am I doing right now?" Daydream kept asking questions to keep the conversation going but also to ward off this guy.
"You're.... walking....", he replied his voice trailing off.  "I'll have a chat to your mum, okay? I'm not your parent so I can't made your decisions for you. Do you know her number?"
"You're really creeping me out Chaz's Dad, I don't know you and you're asking for my mum's number." It's on him though if he does anything bad, Daydream. Her inner voice told her. She took out her notebook from her side pocket and wrote it down.

"I got a call from a man called Mr Curt earlier today, any recognition to who he is?", Her mum asked at dinner with her eyes looking at her, worried. That must be...... Daydream thought.
"On my walks a boy around my age has been in my presence and his apparent Dad wants to enrol me into something and wanted your number. So um,", Daydream stammered. Saying it aloud made it sound creepy. It formed questions in her mind regarding her actions. Her mum shook her head and her hair swayed above her shoulders.
"Daydream, you can't go giving around complete strangers my number, we don't know who they are", her hair was still. "I've never told you what school is, have I?"
"No you haven't", Daydream kept her mouth shut because what if her mum was mad and completely blew up at the fact that she was doing things on her own accord and was slightly scared about that fact. Growing up, Daydream had begun to see that she was a very timid person and was easily succumbed to what was happening on the outside.
"Well, school is a place where you learn a revised version of what other people have learnt over centuries", her mum explained. "It's a good place but-", her mum cleared her throat.
"But what?"
"Other people can be very... mean sometimes and have differences that they believe defines them and....I would rather let you do your learning on your own", she took a small breath in. "Maybe school would be better so you can actually meet other people and not be cooped up here alone all the time". Daydream understood that last sentence to be her mum more talking to herself than to her.
