Chapter Twelve

For the next two quarter-moons, the dream was the same. Sparkface always woke suddenly, her eyes flying open, fur on end, heart racing.

She took a couple of moments to let her eyes adjust to the harsh, unnatural light that had flooded the room. The cone still rubbed annoyingly against her neck. A twoleg was just outside the contraption containing her. She instinctively unsheathed her claws, fluffing out her fur, her ears twitching as she heard something click, and the door swung open.

The warrior exploded out of her prison, her eyes scanning her surroundings. The stuff under her paws felt soft, and spongey. The space was full of structures completely foreign to her. A long, flat, low-lying smooth thing stretched across the room's centre. There was a black box mounted on one of the walls. A large, creamy-coloured, soft-looking thing was facing it. Everything reeked of twolegs. She flattened her ears.

The Twoleg who had let her out was coming towards her, hand outstretched. Sparkface shrunk away, but the twoleg moved towards her and placed it's paw on her head. She blinked, confused, more than anything. Kittypets let Twolegs do this, right? It's not dangerous?

She reluctantly allowed the Twoleg to drag it's paw across her spine (StarClan knew why it even wanted to do that) and the Twoleg moved to wrap it's foreleg around her to pick her up and nope nope nope that's where I'm drawing the line!

She sprung away, hissing, baring her teeth. The twoleg frowned, making a strange noise, then stretching out it's arm again. Sparkface arched her back, and swiped at the twoleg's paw, glancing around for an escape route. The twoleg seemed to take the hint, backing off. It walked over to one of the walls, and pushed it, making an opening through to the rest of the nest.

Sparkface hesitated, then stepped through the gap in the wall, into another room. The floor beneath her paws became hard, and cold. But across the room, something smelled really good. Her ears pricked as she heard a sharp crhhh sound. The twoleg came over, and placed a cold, circular thing on the ground, with some flakey pink stuff in the middle. She slowly came forwards to sniff it. Is that...fish?

She took a mouthful, wary, her eyes widening. It wasn't too bad. It definitely wasn't freshly killed rabbit, but it was leagues better than the usual dry stuff. She ate it, suppressing a purr, (She wasn't about to give the twoleg the satisfaction of knowing she actually kind of liked it) and realised that the whole room smelled of food. She decided that this place would be called the 'food room' (She really did pride herself on her creative names for things). She considered leaping up onto the table for a moment, gathering up her haunches, but as she tensed her muscles, a sharp pain in her side returned. Okay, not trying that, then.

After spending a good ten minutes or so scouring the food room for anything else that might be edible, she turned her attention to the rest of the nest - she supposed this was a twoleg nest, considering there were twolegs in it. There was a long corridor, which branched off into three more rooms - two rooms with large squishy things, which she spent a good ten minutes lying all over, and probably shedding fur on, but who cared, and there was another almost entirely white room which seemed utterly unappealing, and smelled of metallic water. One of the large-comfy-sleep-thing rooms had a large window, as did the first room with the black box, but glancing outside, everything was unfamiliar.

By the time she was done looking around, she was exhausted. Not from moving around all that much, but from her brain trying to process all that twoleg stuff. Although the sun was still high in the sky, she padded back into the wire web thing, and curled up on the squishy thing, sleep washing over her almost immediately.
