Chapter Ten
Sparkface didn't know how she was alive. She also didn't know how she knew, but she somehow knew she was still breathing. Her green eyes were screwed shut, trying to block out the throbbing pain from her stomach.
It looked like she was walking in a fog. Through closed eyelids, a gray mist engulfed her. No matter how long she walked, she couldn't escape the emptiness.
That was until a high pitched squeak rang out. Sparkface's ear's perked, searching for the source of the noise. It sounded again, and the cream she-cat fought the urge to break into a run to find where it came from. Eventually, after wandering on for a while longer, she bumped into something that could've been a tree.
The process of looking up was what aroused Sparkface. When her eyes fluttered open, it suddenly occurred to her that she was laying on top of something incredibly soft. One glance downward told her that she was in a thick, cushy nest-like thing that was more comfortable than any moss bed she'd ever encountered.
Sparkface raised her head to survey her surroundings. A box-like structure surrounded her, so small it was difficult to even stand. A wire screen was in front of her, which she peered through to get a sense of the area.
In front of her was a small animal in a contraption similar to the one she was in. The cream warrior recognized it as a ferret, and figured that it was probably what made the squeals earlier. To her left was nothing, and same to her right. Panic flared in Sparkface's chest. What happened to her peripheral vision? Was she going blind? Did the dogs devour her face as well as her belly But then relief washed over her when realized that it's because she has some Twoleg thing strapped to her neck that went around her head.
"Hello!" A call sounded from the direction of the ferret.
Sparkface stared at in confusion, before slowly replying. "Hello... where am I?"
The creature paused for a moment as if thinking about what to say next. "Cat hurt because of dog. Vet fix cat. Cat still hurt. Cat need heal."
"How can you speak cat?" She replied in curiousity after nodding in understanding.
"First cat talk to me. I learn talk cat." Sparkface wondered what the animal meant by that, but didn't pry.
The comfortableness of the nest made her drowsy, and she laid back down in exhaustion. Questioning thoughts of the previous day's events floated in her mind, but she pushed them away as sleep swept itself upon her. The sharp pain in her stomach dulled to a faint ache as she finally managed to fall completely asleep.
