Prologue: Leaving
"Uncle Pablo! Hurry up, papa needs to get you to the airport." Fyodor jumped in his back seat as Pablo came out of the house with his luggage.
Vladimir was on the phone as he walked up to the car, adjusting his collar when the little five year old kid pointed it out to him.
Pablo was finally starting his new job after the stuff that went on with his old one had finally calmed down. Being the personal assistant to a drug dealer had its fun days but Pablo wasn't going to go back to that. More like avoid it.
He was going to live a nice healthy life, like the man beside him. Vladimir Allister and his grandmother had been living with them for almost four months and Pablo has honestly seen a change in Andres, the man's fiancé. He was more...attentive. And Pablo was jealous of how easygoing everything was with their family.
Not that he wanted one, but it would be nice to have a boyfriend who wanted to stay. Or a girlfriend.
"So, how do you feel? Excited?" Vlad asked suddenly, glancing at him.
"Uh...yeah. I guess. It's a decent job. I just hope it would be fun. I stay longer at fun jobs." He nodded. Rubbing his sweaty palms on his slacks, he turned to the Russian who was drumming softly on the steering. "Do you think I'm a good cook? Do I clean well? I've been wanting to ask but, you're always busy and I have been busy taking care of Fyodor."
Vlad laughed heartily and it only made the man sink down in his seat with nervousness.
Pablo knew his skills were good in both areas. He didn't need someone telling him that but he was nervous. First getting a new job and then being transferred out of the country? Why wouldn't he freak out. His maid company had given him a test run with one of their client and it had been a tad unbearable. Actually, completely unbearable. The family had three kids but other than the obvious fact that the older one was a crack head, the parents were the real problem.
Antonio and Laura.
Antonio was a tall brown haired who was secretly bi and Laura, short brunette, fucked anything with the gender 'male'. Laura had been the one to open the door for him and Pablo could sense the trouble before he stepped into the house. The way she had given him the "look" had him shivering but he needed the job and a good ass review. Pablo had heard from his fellow colleagues that the maids with amazing reviews from their last jobs are transferred to their other branch in New York. Pablo had been elated about the news. He needed to leave his town... leave his city.
He didn't feel safe there and he shouldn't for what he did.
Anyways, to get his great review, he gave the parents what they wanted in trade for it. It was easy-peasy except when it came to Antonio who wanted to be the bottom and a masochist. Pablo had to suck up the crazy even though the back side was what he kept for the men.
And now, he was on his way to the airport.
"Don't worry, Pablo. You will do good."
...
Andres was a pro at booking flight. Pablo hadn't known where the on and off bottom was on the computer. His cousin had helped him book the flight after his maid company had given him the money to do it. His company had given him a place to stay with a fancy street name and Pablo couldn't wait to get there. What would New York be like? He had only seen the place on TVs and Magazines.
"What are you thinking about?" Fyodor asked, poking Pablo's wrinkled forehead.
They had arrived at the airport an hour ago and Pablo had sent his big luggage to the cargo. All he had with him at the minute was a small satchel where his phone, earpiece, passport, boarding pass, book and other good stuffs were. They were now waiting for Andres at a mini bar.
Pablo adjusted Fyodor on his lap then smiled at the kid. "The sky? I wonder if it is raining in New York right now."
"Nyet." Vlad shook his head, his eyes roaming the crowd that were walking about to where they needed to be. "I checked zis morning. I would feel unease if rain fell. Zose moments when plane jerk as if toddler was playing with it are worst. My grandma almost had attack when we flew here. Terrible zing."
Pablo smiled. He could see how serious the Russian was but he couldn't help it when he said things with that accent. It was so thick. His Rs rolled, his TH had a Zee sound and the lack of articles. It was amazing. And if the Russian got mad, his voice went so deep, it was absolutely impossible to hear anything. Poor Andres. He has to lie to his fiancé when he asks, 'Did you hear anything I said?'.
"Thank you for caring, Vladimir."
The man looked back at him and smiled. "Ah, it's fine. It is something I caught from my grandma anyway."
"When is papa coming? I wanna go to daddy's work place." Fyo, Vlad's legally adopted kid said before slurping on his slushy. He looked up at Pablo, his curly hair brushing the man's face before he added, "There is this girl in the kid's place, she is very nice and she shares."
Vlad smirked at his kid then explained to Pablo. "Her name is Luna. She has earing problem but she is sweet girl. Her mum is nurse at hospital. Nice woman."
"Don't let Andres hear that."
"Don't let Andres hear what?" A tall man came up behind Vlad and the Russian jumped when the man placed a man on his shoulder.
Vlad turned quickly and sighed when it was his fiancé. "Scare me like zat again and you are dead."
"You would miss me." Andres countered, joining their table.
"Touché."
"Papa!" Fyo waved but made no signs of leaving Pablo's lap and the man held back a sigh and the kid adjusted himself on him.
"Chico!" The man waved at his kid. "Enjoy your time with your Uncle Pablo now before he leaves. He's got only..." Andres checked his watch. "40 minutes more before he leaves us."
"I'm gonna miss him." The chico faked a sad face as he hugged Pablo and the Colombian went along with it.
"I'm gonna miss you too, Niño."
"So, at the end, you needed the US visa." Andres leaned back on his seat with his arms crossed over his chest.
Pablo rolled his eyes. "There was 1 in 100 chance I would use it anyway. This is the 1."
"And your old job?"
"I worked within South America. If I entered an airplane, it wasn't to leave this continent. But anyways, that is over. Thank you for getting it for me."
When Fyo finally finished his drink, it was time to go. The almost complete family waved at him as he went through the security and the nervousness washed over him again as he watched them leave.
He was alone again.
However, as he joined the line for his plane, he felt the tribal band Fyo had gotten for him a day ago and his heart instantly warm when he remembered what the kid had said, "Here, have this and you will never forget me when you get to New York."
"I would never forget you even if you didn't give me this." He had wanted to say but he could only give the kid a hug.
Entering the plane, Pablo only wished the next time he was coming back, he wouldn't be as shitty broke as he was. Or maybe he would come with someone? Who knows.
