16. The Model Mind

The idea here is to follow the development of a mind from birth (or origin) when it begins to become aware that it is not alone and unique in its own universe but has connections to others.

This mind develops from the state of being nascently aware of surroundings, learning from direct experience what parts of that environment aid survival and which hinder it. The initial approach/avoid reactions are driven by self-interest.

The first awakening of the mind is to the presence of others with similar needs whose actions tend to be pro-survival, and learning to follow their example.

The second awakening of the mind is to the presence of others for whom one has become the example, and learning the responsibility of being a good example.

The third awakening of the mind is to the fact of being a member of a community where there is a spectrum of useful experience from most to least, and recognizing ones place in that spectrum.

The forth awakening of the mind is to the existence of multiple communities, each with its own spectrum of useful experience, and learning to find ones place in a new spectrum.

The fifth awakening of the mind is to the existence of limited resources, and competition for them.

The sixth awakening of the mind is to the possibility of hoarding and guarding scarce resources, opposed to freely sharing abundant resources. (The tragedy of the commons describes a predicament in which individuals independently pursue their own interests, leading to the over-exploitation and eventual depletion of a shared resource, ultimately harming everyone's well-being.)

The seventh awakening of the mind is to the complex fabric of morality, in which the sharing of scarce resources becomes a communal issue. First within a community, then between communities.

The eighth awakening of the mind is to the reality that the solution to the problem of scarcity is the creation of abundance. It becomes the prime responsibility of leaders to solve this problem. And to do this for the mutual advantage of all.

The ninth awakening of the mind is to the communal nature of physical reality, that an individual physical body is already a community at the eighth level of awakening, and the mind is the de facto leader of that community.

Thus, in the context of the reality of multiple beings who are already the minds of physical bodies, the tenth awakening of the human mind is to the fact that human beings are the de facto leaders of the entire community of beings with physical bodies. So it falls to them to apply the eighth awakening to the world of such beings: to create an abundance for the mutual advantage of all.

Not an easy problem to solve. But since the source of all physical abundance is physical energy, and the Sun supplies that in abundance, perhaps not impossible.
