Chapter Four:
We woke up early in the morning, packing all our gear and munition with us. I walk around the cavern chamber to make sure everyone is ready.
Satisfied, I holster my rifle and signal the teams to move out.
Moving through the forest, I scan the area for any signs of another team in the area. Satisfied that it was all clear, I signal the team to move out.
My plan was simple. While we searched for other teams, we would move side by side. I would lead my team, and Travis would lead the Howlers a few yards to our right, that way if we ran into trouble we would be able to provide assistance.
We hadn't been walking longer than an hour when we heard Travis's team being under attack.
I order my team to move in on the enemy, picking them off one by one as they focus on attacking Travis.
This was too easy, the opposing team was taken completely by surprise. Within seconds the team was down on the floor.
'Nicely done everyone, I believe we just took down the Swift Runners' Travis says.
My team and I are still hiding in the thick branches. This was too easy, why aren't there another team with this one?
Just as I start thinking of the possibility that this is an ambush, more teams start to surround the Howlers.
'Aww come on, that's no where near fair' Tabby whispers beside me.
I scoff softly. 'Since when is life fair?'
'OK ladies, what's the plan?' Jake asks coming up to us.
'If I'm a lady what does that make you? An old female hermit?' I ask not bothering to stifle the quiet laughter escaping my lips.
Tabby softly elbows me in the arm. 'Shouldn't we focus on them instead of each other?' She asks slightly irritated.
'Of course, Tabby go a little back and climb a tree to get a good vantage point. Jake, you and Mary go to the right flank, I'm going through the left flank' I order around.
Everyone nods and head off to where I order them to.
I shoulder my rifle and take out both my pistols.
'Where are the Silent Wolves?' I hear a guy ask Travis.
'What makes you think I know. If you can't find them its obviously because they are being SILENT' Travis replies, putting extra emphasis on Silent.
'I'm not playing around Travis. Just tell us where they are' The guy says again.
'Have you tried looking in the forest?' Travis asks laughing.
A few of the guys in his team started laughing too. Hell I was even trying to stop myself from laughing, epically failing.
In seconds everyone turns and stares at me.
Well...this sucks! I thought to myself.
'Any chance you guys can turn around and count to 10?' I ask grinning.
They all laugh.
'I tried' I said shrugging.
I quickly lift my two pistols and shoot down 3 guys when everyone snaps put of it and starts shooting at me.
Two guys are literally inches from my face, within 3 seconds they are both taking flying lessons across the clearing.
Wow another save by Tabby! That girl in on a roll. I thought to myself.
I shoot three more guys when my pistols click empty.
Time for my baby to come out and play, I say hoisting my rifle and aiming at the leader of one of the teams.
By this time Travis and his team are behind cover shooting the other teams from the middle, me on the left and Jake and Mary on the right causing mayhem. Today is just peachy I thought.
The whole battle lasted a total of twenty minutes, though it felt a lot longer.
I pick myself off the floor and walk through the mob of kids sprawled on the floor.
I find Travis walking over to me. 'That's twice I saved your butts' I say smiling.
Travis looks at me. 'You kidding, I was just warming them up for you' He retorts.
I roll my eyes.
'So. Was I really that funny?' Travis asks with a smirk on his face.
'Funny? Dude I thought you were a comedian. If only you were half as good a soldier, then we'd be in serious trouble' I reply.
Again I roll my eyes. 'Cone on, let's see how many teams we took down' I say walking over to the kids on the floor.
Five minutes later we count all the missing teams.
'Wow, congratulations, you singlehandedly united six groups into teaming up to take you down. I'm impressed!' Leo says.
I give a sheepish shrug. 'Must be my people skills'
Everyone laughs. 'OK so what now? We won right?' Mary asks.
Her question is answered when two transport ships appears above us, quickly descending.
THREE DAYS LATER...
'Wake up!' I hear an instructor yell rather loudly.
Worst alarm ever, I mumble under my breath.
I hurry to stand beside my bed at attention.
'Listen up y'all. Today is the day you all graduate. Just one last final test. The test of survival and endurance. All cadets, follow the drill sergeant' He orders.
I look at Tabby who looks a little scared. I place my hand on her shoulder to assure her everything is going to be OK.
She gives me a nod and turns to follow the drill sergeant.
